Someone's posted on S&B about going to the sample sale today. Cheap bargains if you're the right size it seems.....

libertychick · 01/02/2013 21:11

I have debated going in to the A&W sale too but suspect it probably isn't worth the effort. And DD ha a horrible cold so I would feel guilty abandoning her.

QueenCadbury I haven't started thinking in detail yet about what I want for my 40th - I am planning a general wardrobe upgrade this year and think I've made a good start in the January sales. I would like jewellery, but unclear what I want - need to start shopping around. I like the idea of diamond earrings but haven't worn earrings in about 10 years. I plan to get my colours done too - maybe in March. I am torn between getting something that's a keeper item v's getting something lovely for everyday use and accepting it will be a limited timespan.

libertychick · 01/02/2013 21:12

'has'

BrandyAlexander · 01/02/2013 21:40

Hi liberty! snap, i am also 40 this year.Smile I made the decision a few years ago not to keep diamonds away for best. Life's too short and they're there to be enjoyed! I wear them all the time.

QueenBOObread · 01/02/2013 23:07

On jewellery: I idly obsess about finding a cocktail ring. Could be a good 40th?

I love the crisply cut Tiffany sparklers but can't stretch to that ££ as a treat for myself and also like the traditional opulence of this Lanvin. If it were my 40th coming up, I'd love to go to Grey's Antiques and have a look at the original Victorian or 50s pieces. I bet they have some lovely stuff

QueenBOObread · 01/02/2013 23:12

Quick purchase to report today: this tapestry skirt.

On the downside: it's going to be everywhere and will be recognisable from a distance, but it cost £29.99 and instantly appealed so I won't sweat it. Need to maximise wear now though - it looks great with black opaques and black top, which I won't feel much like wearing after February.

QueenBOObread · 01/02/2013 23:13

Link fail.

Zara tapestry skirt

BrandyAlexander · 01/02/2013 23:34

The skirt is very pretty though I sooo wouldn't look good in itGrin

Cocktail rings have become my big jewellery thing over the last couple of years. I owe pieces very similar to the two you linked. I mix between cheap, Swarovski and diamond cocktail rings and swap each day like my bagsSmile that would definitely be great present!

I turned 40 in Nov and got my Michael Kors rose gold watch which is on my AW Pin board from my friends. I love it. DH got me my iPad and a day out shopping with a stylist which was wonderful.
I also enjoy a good cocktail ring but all mine are Swarovski as I can't afford the real thing! Love the tapestry skirt. You must have great legs! [Envy]

MarshaBrady · 02/02/2013 10:58

QueenBoo love that skirt. I love the opulence of Lanvin atm. And the dreaming of cocktail parties, my favourite thing.

Decided not to go to Aubin & Wills sample sale, going to something cultural with family instead, gallery and probably lunch.

I've been to A&W very recently in Covent Garden and it was already jumblesale-esque. Picked up the black chinos and ran; I don't think I'd cope with a full-on sample sale... My elbows aren't pointy enough.

Was just inspired by DMBL40's post on brogues . I hadn't considered them in a nude shade before but I see they'd be easier to wear - less clumptastic. So I picked up these from Grenson which I thought worth a go given the discount. New territory for me though.

Shop thanks for the tip about Swarovski; there are some very Tiffany-esque rings on there aren't there. There's a shop on Kings Road isn't there? May have to take a look. I go to one or two black tie events a year so I can't say I need the real thing! But I can dream.

shopafrolic · 02/02/2013 13:14

Not sure about location of London stores QueenBoo but I go to one in St A and one in Milton Keynes. I have one of their Chic rings (the large not the mini) in clear and white stones. It's a few years old now but I love it. Agree the real thing would be lovely.....

libertychick · 02/02/2013 14:19

Great, lots of '73 babies on the thread! Thanks for all the fantastic ideas for 40th gift some diamonds and a cocktail ring could be the thing! I love that you wear diamonds every day novice and indeed why not! I don't even wear my engagement ring - it doesn't work with my wedding ring which is similiar to this one the nine carat gold version so I have been meaning for ages to get it adjusted to wear on a different finger.

QueenBooBread a browse around Grey's Antiques is a fab idea. Love the tapestry skirt.

Annianni · 02/02/2013 16:03

I've got that ring QueenBoo in the citrine and I love it.
I've pinned it, i'll do a link later.

It's ds1's 9th birthday today, the party's just finished without any injuries thank god

I was 40 in October and I got a wonderful child free shopping trip with dh's bank card, it was bliss.

My favourite pressie though, was some silver studs from JL that look similar to the Tiffany, Elsa Peretti diamonds by the yard ones that I love and can get when the mortgage is paid off :o

Drywhiteplease · 02/02/2013 16:34

Ooooh Queen those brogues are lovely.
I ordered
These
But they weren't nice .

Drywhiteplease · 02/02/2013 16:35

Try again
these

Drywhiteplease · 02/02/2013 16:41

Re 40th presents, my advice is be specific. My DH wanted to surprise me....thought diamond studs boring Sad I secretly lusted after a Cartier tank, I got something almost exactly like this:
brooch
Which is lovely but I've hardly worn it......like pearls it can look a bit matronly and would feel a bit ott at work.

AmberNectarine · 02/02/2013 16:52

I've told DH to get me a Chanel boy bag or a YSL cabas chyc for my 30th. Let's see if he listens...

Have just bought a neon yellow t-shirt from 2nd Day. The colour looked so fresh. Thought it will look nice with pale grey skinnies.

AmberNectarine · 02/02/2013 18:51

Forgot to mention my orders arrived and it's all staying. Tibi sweater as fab as I'd hoped - wearing now! Me&Em scoop neck ruched dress also great, and DH has deemed not too sexy for work (though as we work together he's not the most objective) and the Grecian top v nice too.

AmberNectarine · 02/02/2013 19:02

Things I saw today and LOVE:

this

and this

BrandyAlexander · 02/02/2013 19:04

Ooh that sounds terrific Amber. Have you got a link to the grecian top?

I passed through Marks and Spencers today. I had a look around and just kept thinking why do the clothes never look as good as on the ads??!! Oh and why is a size 8 rarer than hen's teeth?!!

MarshaBrady · 02/02/2013 19:04

Love those Amber. Matches is always great at the beginning of a season. Love it.
