No, it's a shapeless sack that falls just below the arse and people feel compelled to wear with leggings.

If you are a size 14-16 like me they are great. It means you can continue to wear skinny jeans and fantastic boots without showing your wider than average bum to the world. And they are warm. And comfortable. So there. :)

Leggings should also be banned. Unless you are 14 and the size of a twiglett they make you look bad.

Well, how else do you bridge the gap created by trousers that are cut too low?
Tunics are a godsend as soon as you put on a bit of weight, so I (size 12) will be wearing them until further notice!

No no no, I have just got my head around tunics. I didn't like the original ones out 10 years ago (short sleeve, tiny boob space big belly frilly space & fabric). But now tunic just means relatively long top, of any other construction & style otherwise. Which is what I need. Because I've short legs & long body. The typical tunic barely reaches my hips but "dress shirts" are still too long. So now I finally know what to look for in the shops when I seek a top that fits me ("tunics"). I NEED tunics, damnit.

I think that's why they are so hated. Because they are comfortable, mumsy, hide a bit of weight and are not tight. It feels better to put on a pair of stretchy leggings and a tunic because it fits nicelt, rather than attempt to pull on a pair of jeans which are too tight and confront the fact you need to drop half a stone. They are denial clothes (I speak for myself, not generally).

I love tunics and leggings, a wide belt to pull in the waist is must and I'm not old or mumsy or fat.

they make me look a whole lot fatter than i usually am but think they look okay and quite nice on some people! think you need to be a pear sort of shape and im an apple so just look blobby in them

I think tunics are like the winter version of the maxi dress.

Look grim, not as flattering as you would think, and seem to have been fashion staples for about 6 years.

I had a baby last week and feel much more stylish in a tunic than a pyjama (check my S&B lingo Wink). That said, I cannot wait to be back in non-tunicky clothes - guess I need to stop shovelling down the mince pies first.

Can somebody link to a picutre of what's referred to as a tunic? I think I'm thinking of a tabard. I thought a tunic was a sort of large back and front bib without any sleeves.

I would like to know what i can use as a suitable alternative to a long shirt or tunic please.

I cannot tuck in and need to cover a large belly and very thick waist.

Hmmmmm. I think it depends on your expectations tbh. I am a size 22. If I thought there was an outfit out there that would make me look thin I would be kidding myself. I am not thin. I will not look thin. I can look smart, comfortable, warm and like I've bothered though. Part of doing that turns out to be by wearing leggings and tunics. I'm going to wear a nice warm boden wool one today actually. I pick necklines which don't over-emphasise the boobs that's all. So today you can see I have plump calves. I have plump calves. The world will keep turning......Grin
