That's the saddest thing. "No one cares past 35".

Gwendoline - wear stuff that suits you. If tunics suit you, go for it.

I personally look like either I'm wearing a sack or a cossack

I don't think they will ever go 'out' because they were never 'in'. I have no issue with the size of person wearing them. They are a universal frumpifier.

Lostconfused, I'll get off my soapbox now. It just irks me that people get SO hung up on what we all wear. To me, it's just of lesser importance. How someone dresses compared to what that person is actually like doesn't matter to me.
What I want to talk about? Does anyone know of a damn good moisturiser that doesn't cost the earth for my horribly dry legs?! They are almost FLAKING!

Am just back from a toddler group. It was my first time so I was obv checking out all the other women fash-wise.

Nearly all the ones who looked good were wearing a variation on long woolly jumper / leggings / UGGs or knee-high boots. There was one wearing lovely platform boots but she didn't look comfy.

I think it's an improvement on the ones who clearly hadn't made an effort and were in ill-fitting jeans, trainers and some kind of fleece or t-shirt.

I love jumper dresses in the winter and prefer them with opaques, but today was a leggings day to be fair. I like plain longish dress over superskinnies and ballerinas as an alternative but tis snowing out there.

Essentially mothers to tiny kids are limited by practicality, and tunic+leggings+boots is the prettiest comfy stuff out there, really.

And yes to what Absy said about them being the solution to all fashion problems - dangerous advice.

Incidentally Absy, how does one wear a Cossack? Wink

I am wondering what is the best thing for a short woman with ok-ish legs and a very large waist then? I have asked what the alternative is before with no reply.
I can't tuck in, I need a shirt that goes pretty much past my groin/bum area. I can't wear dresses (look ridiculous), sick of bootcuts.
Such a hard one.

I can't think what else I could feasibly wear to a winter toddler group in fact.

Jeans and jumper and flat ankle boots?

Still not as comfy for crawling about as leggings, let's be honest.

Oh and there is the other sort of woman who wears a denim mini over thick colourful tights and boots. Now that is a look so twee I know she and I can never be friends.

Go for it, Djembe! Only thing is, you will have to wear your sequin shorts with leggings & Uggs, otherwise you'll look like you've gone straight there from a club.

It may, in fact, be impossible to avoid wearing at least one fashion taboo Grin

I think it's awfully unfair to declare a style defunct and then to not offer the new alternative Xmas Sad . How are the mumsy and deluded to know how to become "on trend"
btw I have never worn a tunic but was considering it as a change.

I dress for toddler group as I do normally. Usually skinnies (mid-high rise), a tee or vest, a sweater/blazer, wedge trainers/Pistols/OTKs. I don't need a special uniform to go to toddler group!

To be fair I think today the snow was a factor. I was planning to wear my bargain £12 sparkly ankle boots from New Look with skinnies and a navy Uniqlo merino sweater and was irrationally annoyed lucky to not as I would have fallen on my arse with the buggy.

But crawling around is easier in leggings.

Don't say plethora. Makes me thing of somebody trying to talk with a mouthful of crisps.

I was in my 40's when I attended toddler groups...crawling around in anything was not pretty.

I have to say I am full of mirth at the 'no tunics over size 12' ruling.

Please oh so wise Amblin tell me what to put my size 22 bust and bottom in to that won't offend your delicate sensibilities. My breath is bated.......

Wear can I get nice plain non-fitted tunics?

Report
MakeHayInAManger · 05/12/2012 12:51

amblin glad I amused you. I also have (IMO, and also in DH's) great legs - leggings show these off, and I like wearing them. So yes, I feel sexy in them. Walk with a wiggle, give off confident vibes and all that. Jeans (boot-cut or skinny, presumably the latter are also not allowed past 35) are something I throw on when I CBA.

And for those who didn't ask, I came through active convos and was actually confused as to what S&B was. Now I know I think I'll avoid.

Enjoy the far side of fuck, I hear it's full of those wearing exactly the same things as yourselves, including hoiked judgey-pants.

Size 10, LOVE tunics and leggings, so comfortable.

Uniqlo very best place for tunics.

I live in skinnies/straight jeans with a long sleeve top and a jumper at the moment as does pretty much every other person I know so I am nominating skinnies and a jumper as the mumsiest outfit ever!

I'm afraid the butt-covering Acne sweater + leather legging combo is still fashionable...
