As the first thread is nearly full, I've set up Part 2

No, you didn't kill it.
I did get out the Feminité du Bois. Love the stuff,
IT got me thinking about perfumes that make me feel sexy - thanks to Bolter's post. Grin
This is one - sexy in a very sophisticated way.
AP Strip - that's just dirty.
Then there's Eau Claire des Mervelles - in a gentle, take your time way, contented laid back way.
Or Shalimar Light - a Shalimar flanker from years ago - now that's very playful.

MooMinCow · 16/11/2012 19:53

My Coromandel hasn't lasted that long (wail) Was expecting Coco style longevity Sad (still loving the smell though)

BOFingSanta · 16/11/2012 19:56

I'm taking DonaAna's advice on that one and getting a 30ml decant. I probably won't be able to afford anything else for Christmas really, but if it isn't too far away from Euston, I'm still going to visit the perfume hall in Selfridges and have a good sniff of some.

CointreauVersial · 17/11/2012 00:16

I bought some Dior make-up today (a Christmas present; not for me), and was given a sample of Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle.

Dare I try it?? If it has even the slightest resemblance to the original Poison it's going straight in the bin!

kiwigirl42 · 17/11/2012 00:22

Oh no, all the poisons are quite different. Hypnotic Poison has almondy notes

FellatioNelson · 17/11/2012 03:42

when you talk about Tusan Leather do you mean the Tom Ford? I fell in love with these when they first came out and I bought my DH the TL and the Bois De Morrocain,AND the Oud Wood all of which we both adored. I felt they were all men's fragrances (especially TL funnily enough) but the BDM I used to share as it seemed more unisex to me. My DH was bereft when they all ran out, and as he'd heard me say there was so many nice ones to choose from in that range
He bought himself the Champaca Absolute, on a bit of a whim. It's fucking disgusting! for men or women, just beyond grim. It smells cheap and overpowering and sweet and it catches in the back of my throat every morning when he kisses me goodbye but he insists on using it all up because it was expensive.

Cointreau have you actually smelt Jicky yet? I went on a mission to seek it out as from what I read it sounded like iconic, classic perfection. I found a counter lady who was very generous with the stuff and as it was proper parfum and not eau de something, it was a strong old dollop I got on my arm. It nearly knocked me over! I ran to the loo and scrubbed and scrubbed but I swear I could still smell that stuff three days later. Good luck!

FellatioNelson · 17/11/2012 03:43

Meant to add, DH and I are now on a hunt for something for him that will not break the bank like the Tom fords, as he wears it every day, unlike me who tends to only use fragrance when I go out or can be bothered to remember.

FellatioNelson · 17/11/2012 03:44

He used to wear Gucci Envy but they stopped making it. does anyone know a similar alternative?

ThatsNice · 17/11/2012 08:24

Dueto parfums replied to my message in faceache. They sell their sample kit (all four fragrances) for $8 including shipping from their online shop. If you purchase a full size you get the sample money back too Smile I shall be trying them Smile

ThatsNice · 17/11/2012 08:29

They take PayPal too so nice n easy transaction. Looking forward to smelly mail coming soon Grin

stclemens · 17/11/2012 09:25

Hi looking for someone to point me to what I might like. So far on random trips to dept store have tried and liked Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan, Chanel Allure, and Dune. But not feminite du bois as much, too floral perhaps? Is there anything that connects these or are they all randomly different (need to be more scientific in my testing). Funnily enough my kids liked Chanel coco and Chanel no 19 best!

ThatsNice · 17/11/2012 09:48

My two favorites I've tried after readi g about them from the lovely ladies here is Chanel coromandel & Tom fords noir de noir. Both utterly gorgeous and I'm most annoyed I've not found my samples of them since I've moved house Sad

anniewoo · 17/11/2012 10:15

DonaAna Can you suggest a hyacinth based perfume as i love the smell of hyacinths. Ninfeo Mio reminds me of a garden in the rain- a garden with plants rather than flowers . I love it, Chanel Jersey, Creed Virgin Island Water and

Coty Wild Musk (Blush)

anniewoo · 17/11/2012 10:16

Surrender to Chance are now doing Annick Goutal's Ninfeo Mio.

shoeprincess2 · 17/11/2012 10:21

Hi anniewoo- as a starter for ten, try Grand Amour by Annick Goutal. That is hyacinth based and gorgeous. It is slightly reminiscent of Chanel Allure.

OP posts:
anniewoo · 17/11/2012 10:24

Thank you- actually think it is 'too sweet'for me. Will try it again.

BOFingSanta · 17/11/2012 12:03

Yes, Fellatio- that's the one I mean. I've ordered some Dueto Golden Boy for DP for Christmas.

kiwigirl42 · 17/11/2012 12:58

I've just ordered the Dueto samples. Bargain at $8 (£5.20) delivered for 4 samples.

Guerlain Chamade is supposed to be a good hyacinth - don't discount 'bluebell' fragrances either as they are hyacinths too.
Penhaglions Bluebell has lots of fans, including on this thread

This page from Fragantia had information about hyacinth

kiwigirl42 · 17/11/2012 13:27

some half price perfumes at Roullier White in the UK

coffeeinbed · 17/11/2012 18:11

Chamade is a green galbanum hyacinth one.
I have worn it, but it's a bit too perfume-y for me now, IYSWIM.
stclements Feminité has no flowers, at all, it was created as an entirely flower-free one. It might be the plum notes or the spices your smelling that make you think of flowers.
I know I sound a bit like a broken record - I seem to be on a mission to get everyone wearing it - but give Mervelles a sniff.
Especially the new flanker - L'Ambre. It has the amber you seem to like but in a more restrained way, compared to Ambre Sultan. It also has the beachy feel, the one Dune is meant to have. Avoid the Elixir, they put some chocolate notes in in, the idiots.
I cannot comment on any Chanels - I avoid them like the plague. Grin

stclemens · 17/11/2012 20:31

Thanks! Today I added white patchouli to my list of smells I like, but not black orchid.

yellowbottle · 17/11/2012 20:45

Now I know this thread is all about fancy dancy perfumes, but if love if someone could tell me what this is that I don't like. I sprayed estee lauders's beautiful today and found it to be rank, in the same way that I hate jlo's glow. Something air freshener about it. Would it be the rose or the peach note in them maybe? I tried comparing the notes on fragrantica but not much help.

I've also tried some guerlain perfumes on the basis that they might be a good high street option. I really love shalimar parfum initial but it seems to get a slating. I'm looking for a winter scent. Tried mitsouko but found it to be old ladyish in the way that many people describe chanel no 5. I love no 5 and don't get that from it. Any suggestions? I wear coco mademoiselle a bit. Also like clarins eau tranquillity, clinique happy, Kenzo flowers, Armani diamonds but all of those I find more summery and growing out of flowers I think.

Also hypnotic poison I found to be very sweet!

coffeeinbed · 17/11/2012 20:57

Shalimar parfum initial is lovely, I think.
And I must have been the only person alive to like Insolence. Blush
Beautiful is rubbish.
Honestly don't know what to recommend. Agent P. petale noir? that has flowers though.
Is donna karan cashmere mist still around?
Give that sniff, if you see it?

yellowbottle · 17/11/2012 21:05

I have my insolence. A random duty free purchase that I hated during the summer but am coming around to a bit more during the winter. I do find it a bit sweet though. Funny, cashmere is one I've liked the sound of a bit from what I've read online. Must see if I can find it somewhere and have a sniff!

coffeeinbed · 17/11/2012 21:06

Blimey, I'm good!
