Can anyone tell me why Feminite de Bopis and Worth's Courtesan smell like unwashed gussets? It's kind of a musky sex smell. Is it civet?

DonaAna - is calone that really big "fresh air" note? It's lovely, but can catch in the back of your throat just a little. Like fabric softener? I think the Sel Marin gets away with it because of the citrus and salty notes. It has now faded to a soft vetiver.

A friend told that the price of Chanel Exclusifs is going to go up soon (next month?). So if you are going to order a FB, better to do it asap. If there is no boutique nea you, ordering via Place Vendome Haute Parfumerie (no eshop, just email them) is a superb way to get one - the freebies that you will get will be nicer than your bottle. Sorry that I keep mentioning them but they (as well as Campomarzio in Rome) are what a good perfume shopping experience should be like.

Sel Marin is one of the very few Calone scents that I really like.
Have Zino somewhere but can't smell a thing atm.

You're not wrong about the churning out of old smells. E.g. Gucci Glamorous Magnolia is just like Juicy Couture's Viva La Juicy. Boss Nuit is like Cerruti 1881 (I think I remembered that right). Whenever I go into Debenhams and sniff the newest releases, I can generally liken them to something else.

Speaking of smellie-likeys, i have read that Zino by Davidoff smells like Coromandel (it was on basenotes.net). Now I have never heard of Zino, so wondering if anyone has any experience of this?

@ bottle. You are not wrong. DH gave me a sample of the new Lacoste today (he works for P&G) and I just had a brief sniff and thought "same old same old"...... They really do churn out the same thing over and over (this is something I noticed several years ago, long before my venture into niche).

L'Air du Desert one of my absolute faves too.

Today I'm trying Heely Sel Marin - absolutely gorgeous, like blue summer sky and fresh sea air, tangy and citrus. Not quite right for a freezing snowy day, but definitely a winner for the summer.

It was through this thread that I discovered Tauer perfumes. I had never heard of them before but so glad I tried them out. Like you, there isn't a Tauer I dislike. Orange Star is beautiful too. I know a lot of Tauer's scents are challenging (Loretts for example), but love to buck the trend. If you get a chance, try Pentachord White.

I find a cheaper way to recreate the smell of a lot of mainstream perfumes these days is to simply smear yourself in costco cake.

I will definitely report back. Ciocorosissimo sounds really interesting. Yes, Scents and Sensibility. I got Reverie au Jardin last time which was a lovely surprise.

L'Air du Desert just gets better and better as it develops. Really gorgeous. Rich and dry and dusty and luxurious.

I only bought it because I was on holiday with money to spend. Having said that I do love the perfume so much that I would buy it again. But definitely I'd go for a decant.

Ooooh lovely haberd. The ciocorosissimo smells like frys turkish delight. I was a bit "what?" at first, but it really grew on me. I wore it on Saturday. A gourmand that really is different from the norm. Let me know what une rose chypree smells like- it is one of the few Tauers that I haven't tried. L'air is stunning, isn't it? I guess you ordered from Scent & Sensibility? I love how Ronny puts an extra sample in for you, as you get to try something that you probably would not have normally gone for.

Bottle- it is a lot to pay for the Coromandel isn't it? Maybe L should be sensible and just order a 30 ml decant...

Currently testing L'Air du Desert Marocain which I adore. I think it's gorgeous - an absolute masterpiece. I don't think there's a Tauer I've tried yet that I wouldn't like to have at least a hefty decant of. I also have here Orange Star, Une Rose Chyprée and a freebie of Hilde Soliani CiocoRosissimo which sounds intriguing.

An MNer sent me about a 7ml decant, in exchange for a perfume. Yes, I did think about buying a 30 ml decant, but I quite fancy the bottle as well, to adorn my dressing table...

How big was your decant?

I checked that Stc out and they do a 30ml which I compared one of my 30ml bottles and it's a decent size.

If you were prepared to spend £200 on a full bottle, instead you'd have a good sized decant and lots of money left over for others :)

YouOldSlag- I definitely edge towards the more masculine scents. I even prefer a chunkier watch than something delicate . I keep sniffing the Lonestar... It is probably one that I would buy as a full bottle.

Bottle- love Coromandel, as only have about 3 ml left from a decant. Again, probably would consider a full bottle of this.

When I was a kid my auntie had worked in a department store - she once gave me a huge case of samples. Must have been 50+ 10ml bottles in it.

Ohhh, I was in Heaven. Best present I've ever had! this was the 80s (maybe early 90s) and I lurved the likes of Paris but I've definitely lost my liking for sweet perfumes as I've got older. In fact, most absolutely repel me which is why it's odd that I really do like Alien. There must be something in it that offsets the sweetness. I used to love D&G red but again, really don't like it now. I think the first ever bottle of 'real' perfume I ever had was Samsara (which again, I loved but don't like now). Remember Tribe? haaha oh gawd I can smell it now and it's revolting!

My favourite every day perfumes are Flowerbomb and Chance (and yes I realise all of these are very mainstream) but I do have a bottle of Coromandel (was in NYC last year) which I use very sparingly because 1) even as an eau de toilette it can be very overpowering if you use too much 2) it's too bloody expensive and hard to get hold of! I would go as far as to say stick with the EDT's with Chanel because the parfums can in general be overpowering. A Chanel EDT is as long lasting and has as good a sillage as most other brand's parfums. You don't actually need to buy the parfum.
