What a coincidence Breton and Fritzi! Sounds divine.

Had a really great day. Aveda (fortune, and tipped was extortionate but am happy with hair). Friend Mayfair, great chat. A quick glass of champagne with parents.

Tried on and fell in love with some Celine jumpers. Contemplating a Maje dress and skirt (not that short on). On way home.

bretonbee Just imagine we had met without knowing Smile. I loved exploring the grounds with DD. Felt like a character straight out of Downton Abbey (despite wearing wellies).

At IKEA with DD this morning. The glamour...

Forgive my ignorance Mignonette but what is Eco leather?

mignonette · 24/10/2012 13:44

Did i write Eco leather? I can only imagine it uses a tanning process that uses less harmful substances. Or hides from animals slaughtered also for meat?

Report
shopafrolic · 24/10/2012 14:00

You didn't write Eco leather but the Moschino is made of it......

Oh stylish ones I desperately need some help/encouragement! I've got 9 people coming to dinner tomorrow evening (so eleven of us altogether) and it's a vegetarian meal (not my choice, but guests dietary/religious preferences dictate). I've decided to go for a seasonal theme and so far I have:

  • Spanish almonds and prosecco
  • A soup of porcini and potatoes
  • Truffle risotto
  • Some excellent red wine that goes with mushroomy things
  • Chocolate and pistachio cake
  • A light lemon/ricotta cake

Now: what else should I serve with the almonds and prosecco - I can buy some really nice olives, but what else? I cannot cook anything and no meat (which pretty much rules out crisps and stuff).

And what salad course should I insert between the risotto and the desserts? Should I have a cheese course or is that too much? And should I add some kind of fruit (a salad or maybe just grapes - there are lots of gorgeous ones in the shops).

Yours in panic mode...

Does anyone know what Eco leather is? I'm genuinely curious! Smile

On the dinner party front Bonsoir it sounds AMAZING! But I am so not the person to advise on cooking! The only meal I managed for that many people was Christmas dinner. Good luck though! Sorry not to be more help.........

bonsoir I find vegetarian dinner parties very tough to cook for...

Homemade houmous and crudités to go with almonds and prosecco?

Could you do some nice lambs' lettuce with/after the risotto? Sprinkle some pomegranate seeds over à la Nigella for some colour? I had a wonderful fennel and pear salad (both shaved very thinly) at a restaurant a while ago. Think it was served with a lime/olive oil dressing - wonderful.

I always offer cheese/grapes or other fruit along dessert to choose from as hardly anyone eats both, but I am not a very experienced dinner party hostess. Have only ever cooked for people in an informal setting.

Or maybe serve some figs with the cheese. Love figs in autumn!

I thought ecopelle = eco leather = pleather (learned this when I commissioned furniture)?

That is all gorgeous and delicious Bonsoir. I really like Fritzi's suggestions. A salad could be something light and simple, have to admit I haven't done a dinner party for years however!

But sounds utterly divine. What will you wear?

Survived Legoland.

Have not been in dinner party territory for years. We have two friends we don't know desperately well (but are nice) coming for dinner next month, am vaguely nervous! They are veggie too, but my menu will not be quite so adventurous...

Marsha 'survived legoland' made me grin. I think that's as good as you can hope for from legoland.

Need to exercise, can't be bothered. Urgh.

Thanks for the commiserations on the vegetarian issue, Fritzi! Your ideas are fab and I will think about them very hard! DP is going to be home soon and I want to run through the menu with him and give him a few options (he is very helpful as ex-restaurant trade).

Marsha - God knows what I'm going to wear! I'm so busy decorating the house that I haven't even thought about decorating me!

Amber links!, which Louboutin? which sale things? Sounds great.

Bonsoir I imagine whatever it will be, it will be very elegant.

I really need some more elegant things in my wardrobe. Dresses, some more dresses for the evening.

Amber, I've just imagined you singing about your shoes to the tune of 'I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts' . V. nice shoes indeed, similar to the ones that Reine has. Off to check out your other links.

Big wave to the rest of you.
