Good afternoon everybody and hope you are all keeping warm.......I am wrapped up in a burgundy marl cardigan from Zadig & Voltaire (my husbands) with a ribbed thermal cream t shirt underneath, an old indigo cotton kilt/skirt from Topshop, ancient Frye boots in dark grey and fair isle cream tights from Ellle.

I love this sweater from Antoni & Alison -

Sorry for long link but don't know how to do the 'here' link thing (technological troglodyte, I am).

And this Pedro Lourenco kilt would be my dream buy as it's so expensive-

Glad to hear the Dinner party went well, Bonsoir

Love the image of candles and flowers and Paris.

Mignonette do a space after pasting the web link and then type the words, so space then here. Then close brackets.

That skirt is really something isn't it!

Thank Marsha - I'm going to practice now and try not to laugh if this post ends in garbled typed nonsense because I truly am a techno trog. Just as well psychiatry is not dependent upon anything other than basic WP and databasing!

I love this Carven skirt too; a classic that will not date even though it is petrol blue-

so space then here

I also love this dress for Christmas although the heating will need to be turned up....It's a beautiful delicate golden shade-

here

These are my beloved Clarks Desert Boots I bought last winter and have managed to keep in good shape mainly because they aren't the easiest to co-ordinate clothing wise...here so any suggestions as to what else i can put them with other than narrow leg pants would be welcome.

And here 's another dream of a top by Christopher Kane- so elegant.

[hgrin] Did It! Thank you Marsha...

Well done Bonsoir & Mig! Love the Carven in particular
I'm shattered, downloaded the new Tom Wolfe Miami novel on Kindle and am going to read it in bed tonight. Need something escapist... Rainy and gusty outside. DH & I were going to go out for lunch today but ended up eating ravioli in the kitchen.

I ordered a Frederic Malle candle as a treat for myself. 'Coffee Society' - the scent that lingers in the room after you stylish Parisian guests have left... Am thinking of skipping the having guests part altogether Wink

Marsha, a Lanvin will be stunning anywhere!

Oh I've been thinking about getting desert boots...

Report
mignonette · 26/10/2012 16:27

I adore Frederic Malle but after living in a heavily beamed tudor house for so many years I got out of the habit of candles inside although I have them hanging from trees and shrubs outside.

Have you seen this Malle product
here Dona? I've been reading several interviews with Tom Wolfe in the British press; Robert Crampton did one with him in last weekend's Times. Wolfe is no fan of modern art is he?

Report
DonaAna · 26/10/2012 17:08

No I hadn't seen the Malle strips! I'm normally not a candle person but felt tempted this time - it's going to be winter in Italy too and I will be spending a lot more time indoors. But I also bought their entire perfume collection (a coffret of minis) - I love most of them and prefer to wear a different perfume every day.

It's definitely winter in Paris today - cold, wet, windy, foggy and the weather forecast says 2° before sunrise tomorrow morning. I have lit lots of candles and shut the shutters in the sitting room in order to make it all feel a bit cosier.

Have just made a hair appointment for tomorrow - am having dinner tomorrow night with a new friend (someone I met through another friend) and want to go feeling relaxed and glam! What is everyone else doing this weekend?

mignonette · 26/10/2012 17:25

That sounds lovely Bonsoir.....Our clocks go back this weekend which kind of seals our fate regarding Winter's onset. However it is also heralds 'permission' to change into lovely brushed cotton PJ bottoms, sweatshirting tops and dressing gowns once home from work. And soon it will be time to watch Christmas films! Spent today taking down Summer curtains and hanging triple lined Winter ones as we have drafty big old Victorian house.

I have to visit family this weekend in the deepest countryside so driving up Sunday but tomorrow will be brunch with all the newspapers at restaurant/bar/cafe of our choice. Then maybe some gardening as the garden does need to be put to bed for the Winter...leaves dying everywhere. Last weekend we had parties both evenings and I'm too old now for such excitement. I do love being at home at least one evening per weekend with DH, good food, a film to watch with a single malt for him and pile of newspapers/kindle/Vogue for me.

Oh mignonette don't tell me about it! Last Sunday I spent all afternoon lying on the sofa reading Risotto with Nettles (Anna del Conte's memoirs) and it was one of the best afternoons I had spent in a long time.

I have ordered Mad Men Season 5 and Downton Abbey Season 3 and am going to stash them away for the Christmas holidays!

Report
MarshaBrady · 26/10/2012 17:41

Aha excellent Bonsoir! Can't wait until you're all watching Mad Men 5 too. We are watching one tonight, have to pace it otherwise get through it all too quickly. Great to be watching Don Draper again Grin

Mignonette your weekend, house and curtains sound gorgeous.

Dona snap! we were going to do lunch today at our favourite place but cancelled after the indulgence of yesterday!

Saturday night is a Halloween and birthday party. And it involves dressing up argh. I have completely ignored this part so far. Is there anything stylish, easy-ish for Halloween...?

Definitely not tragic. That book is wonderful Bonsoir and I adore culinary memoirs. I have loads on my Pinterest board if you want any recommendations. I'm excited because they have finally put the American series 'ThirtySomething' onto DVD and it's released soon. That's my Winter sorted! Have also ordered 'Treme' and 'Blue Bloods' about a Brooklyn three generation cop family with Tom Selleck.

i want to see' Beasts of the Southern Wild'. Has anybody else seen it yet?

I bought my son a Batman costume (he's 18!) and he surprised the heck out of a passing flower delivery van when he decided to wear it while putting the wheelie bins out yesterday. Waved at them and got a classic 'did I really see that' look...

Oh no! I was addicted to thirtysomething when I was twentysomething - it probably coloured all my expectations of life hence the disappointment Grin

Report
Bonsoir · 26/10/2012 18:17

I love the 18-year-old-as-batman image! DD and I raided Claire's and Accessorize for Halloween costumes on Tuesday - DSS1 thought that dressing up as a modern-day witch to watch a DVD of Beverly Hills Chihuahua was très stylé Wink

Report
mignonette · 26/10/2012 18:18

Yes...All the series are coming out...Even the one with Gary's death (sob). I remember it also dealing with Hope finding being a SAHM after a career difficult which in the 80's was not often broached.

Even my DH loved it. And it had a great soundtrack too with Van Morrison being one artist I recall- 'Tupelo Honey' was the song I think when Hope and baby Janey 'danced' together....

We are watching v lowbrow tv tonight - a twilight film. DH and I suddenly decided we wanted to watch them, and we are on the last one (apart from the one not out yet). I have never wasted so much time so mindlessly! Great fun being rude about them though, and cheap to download on Apple TV.

I am intending to pass the film by hunting down some knitwear, ordering this necklace and with a bit of luck finding a nice cosy winter scarf. Good times.

mignonette · 26/10/2012 18:39

I really like that necklace, Hopefully. I've bought this for my DD's stocking. They do bear and badger versions too. Am thinking of replacing the chain though for a better one, or maybe a woven cord.

Report
shopafrolic · 26/10/2012 19:31

Hi all. Glad you're ordering that necklace hopefully

Quiet, cold, wet and miserable day here. The UGGS are out - shudder. My brother and his family are over from the Netherlands so I will spend tomorrow watching DS getting to know his little cousins - they have only met 4 or 5 times and yet they slip into each other's company with ease.

I have ordered a barrow load of bits from the A&W sale including a petrol blue knit so fingers crossed. Only a week to go until the big 4OH! Scary.

Hopefully love the scarabé - I have quite a lot of insect-themed jewellery but not a beetle. Yet Wink
Shop we are nearly the same age - I'll be 4-0
in Feb. Not panicked about it - have managed to experience a lot so far, and am in some ways looking forward to what is still ahead.
Hope your purchases are great!

We had a great night in. DH cooked, filet mignon with mashed potatoes, and the 2-y-o loved hers very rare (she loves calf liver too). Shutters closed here too and sheepskin boots are in heavy use. And had a lovely time watching a classic Disney film (The Lady and the Tramp) together. MM5 hasn't arrived yet.

I'm quite happy with my life atm - absorbing job, enough social life, domestic matters nicely organized, and I have enough free time for exercise and reading. I've found a friend who likes to explore the city with me too - we love good food and have been to quite a few great places. Will check your boards Mig.

Popcornia - I agree about the creativity/relaxation that comes from cooking. In fact, when I'm in the mood (and weather permitting), even the shopping bit is really fun and creative here in Paris where the street markets are full of wonderful seasonal produce. When I wanted to buy truffles for my dinner on Thursday night I asked my greengrocer two days ahead and he telephoned his truffle-supplier friend in Burgundy and had them overnight couriered - I love it! Such a contrast with supermarket shopping and those rows and rows of business-school-graduate-created, factory-produced boxed "food".
