Why didn't you lot tell me about the wonders of setting lotion? Heh? Heh?

I have straight hair, totally and utterly straight, very fine and loads of it. No product has ever worked, everything either just vanishes in it or weighs it down and makes it even flatter and greasy looking. So why did nobody tell me about setting lotion?

Treseme setting lotion is nice. Can also be used with hairdryer as a blowdrying spray.

Pinot · 05/09/2012 14:52

I don't have enough hair for a sock curl. I tried it before. I have hair down to my boobs, just it's too fine to work. Damn shame.

airedailleurs · 05/09/2012 14:59

my mum has used Amami from Boots for a VERY long time

MrsLettuce · 05/09/2012 15:03

A lot of your classic 50's hair is done with pincurls rather than rollers. The curls are then brushed out to give that classic molded cloud look rather than individual curls, pretty much impossible without setting lotion though.

I'm going to try this cheating pincurl set once I find me big square scarf. She does it dry ('cause of her hair type) but I'm going to do it wet, of course. Traditionally really rather complex setting patterns were the thing.

You can do a 50's look with heated rollers and setting lotion too though, I've got a link somewhere but I can't find it ATM.

Pinot - my hair is damned fine too, also about boob length.

and all setting lotion can be used as a blowdrying spray.

All rise the fine, boob-length hair girls! I like my hair, as it'd easy to clip back in a messy knot, but I do sometimes long for Kate Middy type hair that I could realllllllly play with. She could do ossom pincurls, I bet. I am still disappointed with how blah her wedding day hair was.

Mintyy · 05/09/2012 16:12

I have really fine long layered poker straight hair too.

Am going to get me some letting lotion and that Elemis doobry for pores you linked to Pinot (did you see mn have a 20% off + free delivery offer?).

I almost cannot bring myself to get involved in the webchat with Naomi Woolf through sheer jealousy - have you seen her awesome mane?

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2012 16:24

Right, I've got the extra hold one from boots (cant be too careful can you) so that should hold in my heavy, fine hair.

It's on 3 for 2 so I got 3. Might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb.

Pinot · 05/09/2012 16:26

Mintyy Feelunique have all Elemis at 30% off + free del at the mo. I had to physically calm myself.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2012 16:46

Feelunique is on topcashback, 7% cashback on all purchases except newletter promo codes.

scripsi · 05/09/2012 18:19

Fluffy was this the Amami one? Didn't have it in my titchy Boots today so I shall go further afield.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2012 18:38

No it was by the hair dye. Can't think of the name. £2.54.

MrsLettuce · 05/09/2012 19:36

So, anyone else had a go yet?

My fringe is holding up well but it's pretty odd now I've let me (dead straight) hair down for the evening Hmm. Have found the illusive big square scarf so (life permitting) it's pincurls for me tonight.

Happy memories of my mum doing her pincurls. She's passed away now, but would have been delighted they've made a comeback. This thread has made me smile Smile

Iwannamovenow · 05/09/2012 20:53

I'm just about to sock bun my boob length hair.

The last time I did it, my hair was 8 inches longer.
But it stayed curly for most of the day.

I've got 'stay set professional formula setting lotion'... but they only had regular hold... So finger's crossed :o

Romilly70 · 05/09/2012 21:09

I have long thick wavy hair, but with toddler always have it tied back so will try the sock bun curl so i can be practical by day and ravishing at night Wink

Iwannamovenow · 05/09/2012 21:12

I smell delightful Hmm

Iwannamovenow · 06/09/2012 08:11

My hair looks crap and I hate the smell :(

If anyone wants to try, i'll post mine out?

StellaAndFries · 06/09/2012 08:24

I would like to try it if it hasn't already gone?

Iwannamovenow · 06/09/2012 08:45

Pm me your address and i'll post it later :)

MrsLettuce · 06/09/2012 08:47

Confused Oh dear! What's wrong with it then? You have (finger) combed it, right?

OP posts:
Iwannamovenow · 06/09/2012 09:16

It wasn't curly, bits hadn't taken as such... It just looked limp and a bit puffy.
not sure if I used too much, or not enough... So I brushed it out and straightened it.

It wasn't helped by ds2 (17 months) humping my head at 5am!
