Why didn't you lot tell me about the wonders of setting lotion? Heh? Heh?

I have straight hair, totally and utterly straight, very fine and loads of it. No product has ever worked, everything either just vanishes in it or weighs it down and makes it even flatter and greasy looking. So why did nobody tell me about setting lotion?

Oh, I think so. You'd have to be careful it wasn't to wet though, if it's not dry it's not set...

My grandmother had this. I will be getting it. I can't believe that actually. What next, eyeliner to draw a seam?

MrsLettuce · 04/09/2012 22:42

I have, in fact, recently considered drawing on sock seams. 10 pounds a pair they are these days.

Did she have rose water too? That's excellent stuff as well.

sock? stocking, obviously.

Ooh, I didn't realise what it could be used for (I know, I was being a bit thick), I thought it was only for after a perm or something - I know my grandma gets her hair set every week/fortnight/whatever it is.

madmomma · 05/09/2012 07:37

thanks will give it a go virgil

Jackstini · 05/09/2012 07:55

Yes Iwannamovenow - sock bun curls are brilliant with setting lotion

OddGoldBoots · 05/09/2012 08:07

I've ordered some foam ball shaped curlers (strawberry shaped, actually) to try with it. My hair is very, very long so I shall only do the bottom 10-12", hope it doesn't look daft but if it does I can wash it out.

StellaAndFries · 05/09/2012 10:28

MrsLettuce Primark do some lovely nude hold ups with black seam for about a fiver. I'm thinking of wearing a pair when I go to see some strippers on Friday :)

MrsLettuce · 05/09/2012 10:31

Cheers Stella! Am in foreign lands so no primark here unfortunately...

Tried pin curling the old fringe this morning and have ended up with a fab 30's look. Not what I was after (think I should have curled towards my face rather than away) but it's rather nice!

Another waiting for Rosehip oil from Amazon Blush

I'm definitely going to try the setting lotion, it sounds great. I have the BBH and use jumbo rollers.

Iwannamovenow · 05/09/2012 10:43

I've been using rosehip oil for 2 weeks now and I really like it.
Definately less spots.

I've just been to boots for some setting lotion... Got a blue one!?
It was with the hair dyes, not on the styling aisle (if anyone's interested)

I shall sock bun with it tonight...

But i'm going to the trafford centre in the morning so if I look like my grandma don't like it, i'll not be impressed :o

PebblePots · 05/09/2012 10:55

What's the rosehip oil for? Please, tell, pretty please :)

Iwannamovenow · 05/09/2012 11:08

I use it as a night cream. It's lovely :)
I got the fushi one from amazon.

Startailoforangeandgold · 05/09/2012 11:14

Yes, light spray gell is much better than moose, useless sticky stuff. Fun to put on, but doesn't do anything.

Startailoforangeandgold · 05/09/2012 11:17

My DDs rag curl their hair with the mountain of old long white primary socks that's accumulated in DD2s draw.

UpsyDaisyDo · 05/09/2012 11:43

whats a sock bun?

LoopyLa · 05/09/2012 13:05

Jumping in on this with a daft question! Hmm

If the setting lotion helps 'set' the curls/waves until you next wash your hair, would it work to 'set' hair that gets straightened? So you wouldn't have to run your straighteners through your barnet every day especially at the back of my head where it goes all lumpy

Pinot · 05/09/2012 13:19

baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

You can Youtube sock bun curls if you want to follow a video.

You basically:
Cut the toe off an old sock
Roll it up into a donut
Put your hair in a ponytail on top of your head
Dampen/put setting lotion through the length
Poke the tip of the ponytail through and wrap round once
Kind of spread the hair around the sock donut
Roll it down, over and over until you have a bun
Sleep in it (or keep in all day after morning shower)
Take out next morning/that night
Voila - gorgeous tumbling curls that always seem to last much longer than if I tong it

MrsLettuce · 05/09/2012 13:41

Setting lotion is no thicker than water and usually blue (sometimes pink, I think).

Rosehip oil being used as a moisturiser at night, I think. I've not got any though so not the best person to ask - am more than happy with me avocado oil and (proper) argan oil on the old face. Several threads on it though.

Fringe photos - nope. Sorry. Is pretty much thus

mrslettuce no rosewater, but she used her lipstick like a Nars multiple stick nowadays, on her cheeks, lips. Ahead of her time she was. She was meticulous about her manicure also. And I rolled and set her hair for her many times in her later years. She was a very polished looking woman, which I think is hard to do without looking like someone from Towie you're trying too hard.
