No 7 counter "scanned" my face for foundation match!

Apparently the technology isn't going to be available at other make-up counters for a year! I'm a "cool ivory"! :)
Any one else tried it? I have to say I was really, really impressed with the match. Ended up with a mouse foundation which looks so natural while providing good coverage! PLUS it's half the price of the Laura Mercier I was using....

Went to Boots today with DM and had this done - I'm cool vanilla and DM is beige.

The make up lady gave me some moisturizer to put on and then did my face with the stay perfect (?) and the colour match was spot on! she gave me a mirror and I went and stood by the window and it was lovely - very natural, so I'm a happy girl Smile

DM got the lift and luminate and is also very happy. I was really skeptical, I've always found it hard to pick the right shade but this was really easy - very impressive Smile

I did this and it's the best match on me ever. I was so chuffed and showing it off in the staff room at work yesterday morning. Then in my Year 9 lesson one of the boys said "Miss, you've got LOADS of make-up on today!" Dreams of natural goddess-like skin duly shattered...

SunWukong · 14/09/2012 09:52

Take it you have to go in without make up otherwise they will just be matching it to your current foundation.

SoleSource · 14/09/2012 10:24

No Sun, they wipe a tiny bit off either side of your face.Just go as normal.

TudorJess · 14/09/2012 10:26

I don't wear foundation so my face is already the right colour :o

SoleSource · 14/09/2012 10:43

Good for you. I love make up :)

glastocat · 29/09/2012 17:16

Got this done yesterday, the match is amazing. I always thought I was Blonde in no. 7, turns out I'm Soft Rose, and it really is a perfect match. The sales assistant told me boots have sole use of the technology for a year, then all make up counters will be getting it, so I'm looking forward to that.

I tried that the other week - it really doesn't work with freckles! Poor girl blended the dark stuff into my jaw very whelk and it looked lovely if you ignored that my neck is still an alabaster column.

Leaving the store I was walking past someone with foundation on and her hair tied up and I could see she'd been sold something too dark as well.

I'm thinking this is just a way to get middle-aged women going for the dirty double...

DameFanny · 29/09/2012 17:33

Very well even. No seafood was involved.

raindroprhyme · 29/09/2012 20:23

If you have freckles or acne or redness you should get your neck read then use that colour, apparently?!

NulliusInBlurba · 29/09/2012 20:54

It really is a remarkably good service, although the scanner suggestion didn't initially produce the perfect result. The woman and myself agreed it was a tad dark and went for a lighter one, which was better but not perfect, and then the third one we tried was perfect - cool vanilla in the stay perfect range. It's honestly the first foundation I've ever had which has completely matched my skin, and the quality is just as good as the Clinique foundation I used to use.
But it seems to be dependent on a committed assistant who is determined to get the best result rather than just fobbing you off with whatever the machine suggests.

Tried this at the weekend. The machine said 'Soft Rose'. I could tell by the No 7 consultant's expression that she knew it wouldn't be right for me but she tried it on my face anyway. Too dark and too pink. She said the machine was reading either my freckles or the pinkness in my skintone. She suggested to go lighter, and the machine came back with 'Cool Vanilla'. She put it on my face and I was very happy with it. Haven't had the chance to give it a full road test yet.
I'm not really sure where I'm going with my post .......Grin. I think I'm saying the machine doesn't always work but it can help guide to the correct shade. I would never have picked Cool Vanilla so it did something right.
But do check and double check the colour before you buy.

Birdies · 02/10/2012 17:07

I tried this the other day and was 'cool ivory' which struck me as too pale for my olive complexion. Did it again and still the same colour. They gave me some samples but I just felt washed out with all of them. I've concluded that maybe I really am paler than I thought but I'd rather have a bit more colour. Anyway, tried their intelligent colour foundation (in 'light' mind you as it comes out quite dark) and that's the look I was going for - I think it's a bit like a tinted moisturiser - gives a hint of a tan without leaving any orange tide marks and goes on so nicely and quickly.

So, a happy ending for me but I didn't go with their colour match in the end.

fiorentina99 · 10/10/2012 17:20

I tried this yesterday. I came out as Soft Rose but it looked way too dark, and when she tried the foundation on my skin the consultant agreed it was too dark, but said that the scanner must be picking up the pink tones in my skin (I am pale but pinky cheeked (I prefer not to say ruddy faced!)). She tried it again on the skin on my neck, and it came out Calico which was pretty much perfect. V impressed Smile

xxxresixxx · 10/10/2012 18:08

It's amazing! I'm cool vanilla and is a perfect match. Got 3 for 2 as well!

ElizaDoMore · 10/10/2012 18:12

Cool vanilla for me too. My Mum said I looked fresh-faced. Grin

regnamechange · 24/10/2012 18:32

I finally had a go at this yesterday and I'm very impressed. I went for the beautifully matte and the coverage is superb! Lighter than I normally go for but it's great

MissBoPeep · 24/10/2012 19:29

I had this done and it came out as I predicted- the palest shade Calico.
However- be warned- she gave me two samples of different foundations and one was darker even though both were Calico.

Quite nice- think I got the luminating one- but for the moment am sticking with B Brown Moisture Rich- think it gives a bit more of a glow- though not quite so long lasting.

readysteadymummy · 24/10/2012 19:51

I've used No7 in the past but found it too heavy. I suffer from rosacea so any foundation I wear comes out too pink unless it's really slathered on. May go in to test- though sceptical as to whether it would work considering the anount of redness on my face??

HeftyHeifer · 24/10/2012 22:27

readysteady I've got a lot of pinkness in my face and I was matched by the machine to a colour which was completely wrong on me. The consultant suggested a different shade and that one was ok.
It may be worth a try. If your neck is the same tone as your face but without the redness of your rosacea, ask the consultant to have the machine read your neck. My neck is a shade lighter than my face so that wouldn't have worked for me.
They will offer you a sample anyway, so nothing to lose by giving it a try.

LynetteScavo · 24/10/2012 22:30

It really worked for me! She tested on my jaw line, and now I have no fear of the dreaded foundation jaw line.

Before, I've only been able to get the perfect shade by mixing 2 colours.

Yes, it was worth paying £16 for the foundation.

scarlettbrooke · 30/10/2012 20:27

Had it done was honey. Loved the colour was a perfect match.I don't wear every day just special occasions.
