Inner thigh chaffing, find me an answer

zanz1bar · 25/05/2012 19:32

i look better in summer dresses, but suffer from the dreaded red sore inner thigh.
I have tried lanacane, hair spray, baby powder all work for an hour or so but need reapplying.
I have bought spans like pants with long legs and that works like a dream, but I really don't need the tight bandaging around the waist.
So I am looking for some sort of very light long leg pants, something like control top tights with a bit of thigh cover so I can washy down the street and not walk like John Wayne.
Any ideas?

I have been everything from a size 12 to a size 18 in my adult life, and my thighs have always rubbed together. I am a big fan of nude coloured little shorts, either Evans ones or posh ones from John Lewis.

BoffinMum · 27/05/2012 18:27

Sew curtain weighting into the hems of light coloured flimsy skirts if you don't want to reveal your choice of undies to the world.

BIWItheBold · 27/05/2012 18:30

The M&S ones I linked to ^ have a pretty lace edging, so it really wouldn't matter if you were suddenly 'exposed!'

besmirchedandbewildered · 27/05/2012 18:34

I wear these - no control element but they are dead comfy and not embarrassing to flash as they're not underwear.

BoffinMum · 27/05/2012 18:58

I find these very helpful when I am getting sweaty around barn raising time Grin

Born2BRiiiled · 27/05/2012 19:00

Did anyone read the hysterical product description of the sloggi basic long shorts upthread? Go on. Talk about trying to big up a product.

BoffinMum · 27/05/2012 19:08

BTW Hermione, you are everything I admire in a woman - curvy, self-aware, intelligent and very, very creative. Grin Grin

I luffs MN. For here such women are present in such great numbers. Grin

BoffinMum · 27/05/2012 19:10

lumbago, I am just that sort of shape. Nothing else rubs or anything, but my thighs even rubbed when I was a skinny kid.

MagicGenie · 27/05/2012 19:14

I am loving this thread Smile

I came on Mumsnet tonight after years of lurking and not posting to rant about my DS1.

Then I saw the title of this thread and thought, "Hmmm, I could have written that title! I must read on..."

...and it has been both educational and entertaining Grin and my need to rant has evaporated. Thanks all!

I think we should start a campaign to make Big Floaty Pants acceptable again. Reduce incidences of thrush, cystitis and chafing in one fell swoop whilst being free of the tyranny that is lycra in the nether regions.

It might catch on. If they don't give you a wedgie, that is.

BoffinMum · 27/05/2012 19:18

I googled silk pettipants and found this. Clearly it is a problem for the menfolk as well. Wink

mirry2 · 27/05/2012 19:35

All american sites. Hmm...the problem is clearly more widespread amongst americans.

MumToTiny · 27/05/2012 19:41

Body glide ordered, thanks to this thread. Warning to anyone about to search for it on eBay though - it shares a name with other products designed for more intimate areas Blush
Also, it's more expensive on eBay than elsewhere on t'internet!
Thanks ladies, you've made me smile with this thread Grin

WhatTheWhat · 27/05/2012 20:36

I love you all.
I have chafy thighs at all levels of slim and not-so-slim. I thought it was just me being funny-shaped and sweaty.
Hooray for talkboards!
Will try the Mitchum idea - by 'eck - if that works I will be overjoyed!
I always used to wear thin cotton lycra cycling shorts under my work skirts and never wear skirts apart from at work. You can buy the Sloggi short-pant type thingy in own-brand from John Lewis underwear section BUT they're really sweaty and itchy in hot weather because they're synthetic fabrics, so might try the Sloggi option.

wildstrawberryplace · 27/05/2012 21:42

Body glide anti-chafe stick

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 28/05/2012 11:57

mumtotiny yes, I put that into ebay and then read what it was...

so went to another site and bought it, hopefully I will receive an anti chaffing thigh thingy and not a sex lubricant! Grin Although I am sure DH would think he was onto a good thing regardless. Wink

Had a look through my knicker drawer and found some silk shorties so am wearing those today. Had forgot that I bought them yonks ago, cant remember what for, but they are cool and loose and today I am wearing a dress!

Pinot · 28/05/2012 12:04

Body Glide ordered.

I'd worry if I wore bloomers that a fly was going to get caught up my bits. I'd like a tight fitted gusset and a loose legs, ideally.

I'm thinking about this too much aren't I? Hmm :o

CarpeJugulum · 28/05/2012 12:14

Bodyglide can be ordered via Amazon (where I get mine) or from a specialist running shop.

GreenEggsAndNichts · 28/05/2012 14:18

I just ordered some of the Lanacane stuff from Amazon. I liked at the end when it asked if I wasnted to broadcast on Facebook that I'd just ordered this anti-chafing product. um. No, how about.. just no. :)

CarpeJugulum · 28/05/2012 16:01

Grin at the Facebook broadcast!

Just so wrong!

BoffinMum · 28/05/2012 18:31

Facebook??!!!! PMSL!!!!!

Those marketeers don't quite get it, do they????? Grin

janmoomoo · 28/05/2012 21:46

Loving this thread, thanks to you all from a fellow chaffer. Have tried vaseline, talc, lancane etc to no avail. I fear that bloomers may be my only solution.

mewkins · 28/05/2012 22:13

Brave Soldier Friction Zone cream is good for this. Designed for athletes but works well for chafing of all sorts! my dsis swears by it

EvilTwins · 28/05/2012 22:20

I have been lurking since this thread started. I tried Mitchum yesterday and again today for work and it was BRILLIANT. Hoorah! Grin

treefumaster · 28/05/2012 22:36

hermione I love your story and your and practical solution. You would clearly survive on a desert island and would not have chafing thighs there either (banana leaves maybe?). Did the hotel ever get their napkin back?

I am a chafing thigh sufferer too - the pain Shock. It's also worse two days before my period. I refer you now to the other thread about why
summer is over-rated and annoying.

And bog off to anyone who says we brought this on ourselves for being fat. Well at least we're not bandy legged so ner Wink
