Inner thigh chaffing, find me an answer

zanz1bar · 25/05/2012 19:32

i look better in summer dresses, but suffer from the dreaded red sore inner thigh.
I have tried lanacane, hair spray, baby powder all work for an hour or so but need reapplying.
I have bought spans like pants with long legs and that works like a dream, but I really don't need the tight bandaging around the waist.
So I am looking for some sort of very light long leg pants, something like control top tights with a bit of thigh cover so I can washy down the street and not walk like John Wayne.
Any ideas?

and Grin at Brave Soldier Friction Zone cream. Nice work at marketing to men, skincare people!

NinthWave · 28/05/2012 22:39

I can confirm with joy that I tried the Mitchum trick today, walked two sweaty miles to town and back, and my inner thighs are silky smooth and friction-free.

Best random internet tip EVER Grin

I have to agree that this isn't just a problem for people with a bit of extra chub. Even at my lowest weight, less than 9 stone at 5 foot 8 I had this problem. I have very narrow shoulders and hips, so my thighs will always rub, on my frame there will just never be a gap bertween them. Such is life. But I popped on to say that you can get Lanacane in the 99p store. I've stocked up in the last few days and it's doing the trick.

Lilymaid · 28/05/2012 22:46

May I recommend Boots Derma Care Itch Relief Cream (Crotamiton) if it all gets a bit itchy round those regions? Lanacane didn't work for me, but this does

aliasjoey · 28/05/2012 22:54

I have the same M&S pair as BWIWBold but they are 'control pants' and very squeezy. Even a size bigger than my usual I am squeezed tight.

Looking for a more relaxed alternative, but want to touch and feel - not buy online...

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 29/05/2012 07:09

reporting back from yesterday...

I did the Mitchum trick, wore a skirt all day and walked a lot in the sunny sun. Although I did sweat, it didnt rub so that is good.

StellaAndFries · 29/05/2012 08:36

I tried antiperspirant squirted on my thighs and they didn't rub even though I walked all day :)

IShallWearMidnight · 29/05/2012 08:45

am trying the mitchum thing today, will report back

HouseOfBamboo · 29/05/2012 10:10

re the antiperspirant thing, a tmi application tip is to get the rollerball right under your knicker-line at the top of your inner thigh, and apply downwards all over any thigh surface which might potentially rub. This ensures total dryness in the affected area...

startail · 29/05/2012 10:34

You are brilliant ladies, I've resorted to my palest ordinary shorts under my dress on holiday.
Never thought of antiperspirant as well as talc, lanch whatsit cream works, but is £££. lots of things to to try.

The long sloggis look just the job for the dress I have for a wedding.

slug · 29/05/2012 11:13

I bought bodyglide on the advice of a Mumsnetter last year and was profoundly idsappointed. It was horrible, grainy and didn't work.

I go for either appropriate underwear or a combination of antiperspirant, allowed to dry then layered over with baby powder for friction relief.

BoffinMum · 29/05/2012 13:38

Boffin - that website is an eye-opener!!! Am reading it like this Shock Grin

He Wears Panties. Indeed.

I was in Primark today and they have cycle short type leggings for £3.50, I would say the are shorter than cycle shorts and, being Primark, were very fine Grin. they had grey in them and they would do for us rubby thighed beauties.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/05/2012 19:06

Aha. I was just about to order some of the Slogging long bloomers from BoffinMum's website (for my friend, you understand) but I could buy an awful lot of Primarni leggings for the same money. Dilemmas, dilemmas.

BoffinMum · 29/05/2012 20:01

I think the Sloggi ones probably have more lycra 'ping' and wash a bit better?

veryworriedme · 29/05/2012 20:13

Sloggi, sloggi, sloggi ! They are fantastic.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/05/2012 20:47

Also, being knickers they will be more suitable for wearing as underwear. My friend says.

Aperolspritzer · 29/05/2012 23:02

Hi, sorry for the late post. In Asda I buy a tube called 'liquid talc' from the baby aisle. Its light and creamy but rubs totally in and leaves a smooth dry feeling. Oh and it smells like a baby, lovely. I put it on my inside thighs and it works a treat.

workshy · 29/05/2012 23:14

slightly off at a tangent here but I'm a thigh rubber as are my primary school DDs not chubby by anyone's imagination

does anyone else find they go through jeans like chuff or do I just buy cheap jeans?

Workshy I've moticed holes appearing very quickly in trousers now, no matter where I got them or how much i paid for them.

I might look for the liquid talc today, sounds interesting.

startail · 30/05/2012 12:12

Liquid talc sounds just the thing to hide in the car. Loose talc is really messy when out and about. I'm going past ASDA later.
