Inner thigh chaffing, find me an answer

zanz1bar · 25/05/2012 19:32

i look better in summer dresses, but suffer from the dreaded red sore inner thigh.
I have tried lanacane, hair spray, baby powder all work for an hour or so but need reapplying.
I have bought spans like pants with long legs and that works like a dream, but I really don't need the tight bandaging around the waist.
So I am looking for some sort of very light long leg pants, something like control top tights with a bit of thigh cover so I can washy down the street and not walk like John Wayne.
Any ideas?

I wear dh's boxers: what a catch I am!

TwllBach · 26/05/2012 16:27

turnigitonitshead · 26/05/2012 16:33

turnigitonitshead · 26/05/2012 16:34

thats nice verity, my thighs chafe when slim

FanOfSlippers · 26/05/2012 16:36

Hey verity, have a Biscuit

daisydoodoo · 26/05/2012 16:51

Funny verity as a 12/14 my thighs chafe more than when i was a size 26/28!!! So in fact your advice is incorrect. I have been wearing shorts this year for the first time since I was a child and so nO rubbing then but use deodorant if wearing a skirt or dress.

lumbago · 26/05/2012 16:54

why would your thighs chafe unless you ate too much?

turnigitonitshead · 26/05/2012 16:56

posture, hip allignment maybe? just the same as eating too much does not always cause you to be fat!!

turnigitonitshead · 26/05/2012 16:58

or being "bigger" is not always as aq result of eating too much

lumbago · 26/05/2012 17:02

no i get that
Surely haveing thinner thighs would stop this?

ProcrastinateWildly · 26/05/2012 17:24

There could be many reasons why someone needs an anti-chafing solution, not all of them to do with eating too much and exercising too little:
I think it also depends on the shape of your thighs.
And of course if you do a lot of exercise and have very muscular inner thighs, that could also cause a problem.
And if you have thin thighs but sweat a lot.
And also if you are fat and your thighs rub together, maybe you need an interim solution until you have lost weight.
Or if you quite like being fat but don't like your thighs rubbing together Smile

I found the comfort shorts from Evans to be useless, they just roll up. Ditto old granny pants from m&s which look like thin cotton cycling shorts, they just roll up.

Body glide is the best thing, can actually wear skirts without wanting to cry when I walk. Must go on diet once I have eaten this massive Chinese my DH is fetching me!

CarpeJugulum · 26/05/2012 17:41

lumbago i have chafed all my life - even when a size 6 many, many, many years ago

My issue is with my knees so my posture has adapted slightly to allow me to walk without pain (mostly) and my thighs therefore rub together.

Normally I just don't wear skirts in summer - but there are times I need to do so - pregnancy being a case in point!

Body Glide is the only solution for me and lasts for ages - DS is now 19mo and I'm just finishing my first stick - so lasts about 2 years used once a day in the summer!

MsWeatherwax · 26/05/2012 17:47

chipmunksex I wear boxers too! I don't fit into DH's any more though; I've had to buy my own. But they are FAB.

mirry2 · 26/05/2012 17:47

I've been wearing silky type cullottes for years and always got them from a mail order catelogue and after seening this post I tried to find which one (I think it might have been Marshall Ward or another frumpy one but I couldn''t see it. The only ones I can see now are expensive - about £9.99 on Amazon). I've got about half a dozen left so I'm going to have to go hunting round in a year or so. Howeer I would recommened laying out the £9.99 as the comfort is incredible, unlike the comfort shorts and others, which just increase the sweatiness in hot weather and roll up, creating even more chafing.

Another solution is to buy a pair of loose silky pajamas and cut off the legs to mid thigh. If you buy black or white and they are loose enough nobody will suspect you're wearing nnything more than an underslip, if they get a glimpse. Or if you are handy with the sewing machine you could make your own. I've never had any chafing ever since wearing the cullotes I've described.

hermioneweasley · 26/05/2012 17:50

I am horrified that you are all ignoring the hermioneweasley solution.

mirry2 · 26/05/2012 18:02

Hermione - just looked back at your op and it s a good makeshift solution however I think for us who are chubby of thigh it will just rub against the linen and cause more chafing, unless the linen is very very smooth. loose shorts or cullottes are the way to go.

mirpuppet · 26/05/2012 18:19

mirry2 can you link to the one you found on amazon?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/05/2012 18:25

Hermione - next time I am ordering room service in a Spanish hotel I will ensure I take the tray cloth for my chubby-thighed friend. Cough.

mirry2 · 26/05/2012 18:31

Mirpuppet - I hope this works
