New thread for chatting. Oh and swapping S&B tips.

Having a manic day here - INSET day at school and I have 7 kids (inc my 3) over for lunch. While also trying to "work from home" and talk to removal people.

A version of pin the tail would be fine. Small prizes for anyone who gets near its bum.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/05/2012 18:50

You see, this is the trouble. Almost all of the Mums at the school are SAHMs, yet none would take on the liaison role, so I felt a bit pressurised into doing it. A further problem is that a lot of people who would normally help on the day are away. I had thought, I could delegate much of the work, but am having difficulty finding people to help. I am going to have to take the afternoon off on Friday as well, to set up the stall, as no-one else appears to have time to do it.

I think Pin the Tail on the Donkey is a good idea, and will explore that route.

herbaceous · 06/05/2012 18:53

Do Not Buy Coconuts. You'll also get embroiled in calculations about ideal weight of missile to dislodge coconut, etc...

How about:

  • Treasure hunt - people put a cross on a map. Nearest gets a prize
  • Hook a duck. Though that would mean buying loads of ducks. Probably not an improvement.
  • The game when you knock down piles of cans. Just need cans.
  • Whack a rat - stuff old tights, push down sloping drainpipe, whack with stick at end.
  • Lucky dip. Wrap loads of cheap crap from supermarket, put in barrell, stuff with shredded paper.
  • Races: Egg and spoon, sack, three-legged. Minimal equipment needed.
  • Welly races. Wear wellies to the end of the track, team mate fills them with water, make your way back down track trying to keep as much water in wellies as poss. Empty at other end. Measure.

Oooh, I'm full of it me.

motherinferior · 06/05/2012 18:54

OK. Pin the tail, with prizes of varying value depending how near its ahem tail area they get. I really do not think you should take Friday afternoon off, or rather I think you should do and then you should do something nice like read a frivolous book or go shopping. And then never do it again.

motherinferior · 06/05/2012 18:59

MrsS, we are going to Save You From The Coconuts.

bigTillyMint · 06/05/2012 19:57

Pin the crown on the Queen?
Whack a Queen?
Hook a floating crown?
Knock down the cans (with pics of the Royal Family stuck on?
Grin

I am getting very frustrated with my new phone as I cannot work out how to organise my contacts. It was all so easy on my NokiaAngry

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/05/2012 20:18

I luff you all!

We are a bit stuck for space, so I am liking the whack a rat and pin the crown on The Queen.

bigTillyMint · 06/05/2012 20:19

A rat called Sarko?

Grin at Whack a Queen!

The perfect game for a Republic, surely?

I can't top Herbs's comprehensive list of fete favourites, but continuing with the welly theme there is of course Welly Wanging, which was a staple of fetes in Warwickshire during my childhood. Who can throw it furthest, simples.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/05/2012 22:29

oooh, welly wanging...

I feel your pain, Ruby. DD1 used to do Irish dancing and I spent many a joyless afternoon sitting on a wooden bench in a school hall in some grotty and distant part of the country watching a series of young girls trying very hard to keep their hands by their sides, wearing ridiculous curly wigs and silly dresses.

Ooof. That is a looooong time.

Blackduck · 07/05/2012 07:33

Ruby mucho sympathy (hence the reason I was relieved ds didn't want to do music evening...)
Herbs fab ideas - how about how many beans in the jar?
Had a fab two days (realised how unfit we are), have spent a fortune, and now even more convinced (dodgy curry not withstanding) that this is where we want to live....

bigTillyMint · 07/05/2012 08:44

11 hours rubyShock and I thought DD's 5-7 hour gym comps were bad!

Oh yes, Guess the weight of the (traditional English fruit) cake, MrsS - that one's right up your street!

bigTillyMint · 07/05/2012 08:54

MrsS Look what I spotted

herbaceous · 07/05/2012 10:09

Ooh. How about another target-based game, like throw the soapy sponge at the queens head. Or into her gaping mouth.

So after 3 solid days graft, sorting, clearing, remembering, discovering, my house now looks approx 1000 times worse than when we started. Hmm I'm hoping it's a sort of "darkest before the dawn" kind of thing. I did find the most beautiful hand-tinted photo of my mum as a baby though, so that's going in a frame at the new house. Smile

V impressed with all the fete stall ideas (the wellies full of water one is genius - will have to use that) although I was snorting happily at the thought of MrsS running round Paris looks for coconuts. The things we do for the offspring, eh?

bigTillyMint · 07/05/2012 16:02

Well done wilbur - when's your estimated moving date? Are you near to boxing-up, or maybe you are onto that already?

Just waiting for DS to stumble through the door after 3 days away camping....

bigTillyMint · 07/05/2012 16:17

Oh my days!

He has burns in the back of his (thankfully cheapie) fleece hoodie and the heels of his hiking boots(Hmm) which are also totally drenched, and everything else (that he wore Wink) is coated in mud. He is in the shower and beddy-byes won't be far away by the looks of itGrin

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/05/2012 18:38

I am free from the tyranny of the coconuts! I have posters of Her Maj and Charlie, and will sort out crowns to be pinned.

Thank y'all!

GrinGrinGrin

We are also contemplating welly wanging and guessing the weight of the cake.

motherinferior · 07/05/2012 20:15

Do you think I should pitch the idea of a book about the history of pies??

DD2 has made that terrifying announcement: "My head itches"....

Blackduck · 08/05/2012 06:29

Back to work - boo! Here's hoping it is not a repeat of last week.....

bigTillyMint · 08/05/2012 06:59

MI, I don't know anything about the book market, so no idea! But have you got a nitty gritty comb?Smile

Lost one of my days "off" yesterday.... but come September, I probably won't have any, waaaaahhhh!
