New thread for chatting. Oh and swapping S&B tips.

Having a manic day here - INSET day at school and I have 7 kids (inc my 3) over for lunch. While also trying to "work from home" and talk to removal people.

No advice on haircuts as I have had the same one for, oh, at least 20 years. Like trousers, but £££ I'm a cheap m&s linen kinda girl.

Couple of viewings this week but dp will punch the next person who says 'so how much do you want for it'
Away for the week (yes!) ds's birthday :)
Have a good one crepeys...

Wotcher all

Lovely Boiler Bloke is doing transplant at moment Strops, glad things have cleared up. Wilbur and other wide-trouser-wearers, I personally am in awe as look partiularly like a garden gnome in them myself...although, MrsS, I should tell you my v short hair was much congratulated (and stroked, in manner of appealing ginger pussy-cat) by my former pilates group (which now meets up to eat and drink and drink some more in East Dulwich from time to time).

I have resumed swimming. This is a Good Thing. Ditto singing. Am attempting to crawl out of Gloom by these various means.

I used to be the CND press officer. Perhaps I should go to Primark Grin

bigTillyMint · 05/05/2012 09:13

CV, forgot to report back on Rewinds - my friend said she didn't dress-up 80's style, so sorry, not much use to you, though it sounds like you've got it pretty much covered anyway!

MI, what happened to CND - does it still exist? And didn't spot you in ED last night -you were obviously not in the same establishment as meSmile

motherinferior · 05/05/2012 09:15

I was in the Mag with my mates Grin CND does still exist. But in a somewhat etiolated form these days.

bigTillyMint · 05/05/2012 09:20

Ahhh, I was in the GE (love it!)

I have had it off. Grin I went for the short one, and had highlights too. DH has helpfully pointed out that it is still a bit grey around the temples. Angry I think it looks OK. Had a man cut it this time and think he was v good at the cutting - cut it all with a razor and clearly knew what he was doing. In and out in an hour and a half and only cost 50 euros.

Now off to Monoprix to do the weekly shop.

motherinferior · 05/05/2012 11:14

Having it off for a mere 50 euros over an hour and a half sounds a bargain, MrsS Grin

I am quite taken with that nice Monsieur Hollande.

CointreauVersial · 05/05/2012 15:00

Yes, MI, get thee down to Primark for your very own lovely neon orange CND teeshirt, with attractive tassel feature hemline. Everyone's wearing them.

I've just been test-driving my new Merrell Wakefield raincoat, during yet another rainy football fixture. Cosy and dry! It was a dads versus lads match, which was hilarious; dads managed (somehow!) to win, but the exertion was clearly too much for DH, who is currently snoring loudly on the sofa behind me.

Two walks up the hill with dog, swim, sauna.... Dog collapsed in a heap on the floor. Off to pub for tea. This is a lovely place. Wish I was here for the week, but sadly just a weekend...Grin

motherinferior · 05/05/2012 17:53

OK. S&B (sort of) question. I want a new bag: this happens very rarely, as I am not madly fond of bags, but my current one (ie the one I've had since starting a job in 2007) is soft leather and I could do with a stiff one (so to speak. Ahem. Quiet at the back, there, none of that thank you very much). The only bags I really like are satchels. There are some nice ones around, in fabby colours - I could ask DP for contributions as it's my birthday - but how big a bag do I want? Satchels, in particular, come in a huge range of sizes. I don't particularly want such an enormous bag that I can pack for a weekend, but nor do I want one for work that's absolutely tiny....

MI - as it's a b'day pressie, they have lovely satchels here: I like this one. They also do one with a top handle so it can be like a briefcase too. I think the standard size would work as a roomy handbag.

motherinferior · 06/05/2012 11:49

I am loving www.zatchels.com/bags/collection-category/metallic-collection/metallic-silver-leather-satchel.html this in 14.5 too...

wilbur · 06/05/2012 12:19

Oooh, that's a very nice one - lovely site. I have been pondering something similar myself as my current cheapie bag is really fat and annoys me when it gets stuck between people on the tube. I worry about losing things in the bottom of a satchel though, and have been looking at a very crepey solution like this or similar.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 06/05/2012 12:55

Silver looks very funky, MI! Your search is reminding me that I had a gorgeous big leather satchel, bought in Athens many years ago, but I think I must have turfed it outSad

Wilbur, your handbag organiser is making me wonder, how do you all store your smartphones in your handbags? My old-skool moby fitted in the mobile pockets inside my bags, but the new one is too big, and even just last night got covered in all the crumbs and fluff in the bottom of my bagBlush!

CointreauVersial · 06/05/2012 16:02

Grin I mis-read that sentence, BTM, as "how do store all your smartphones in your handbags?"

I'm thinking, I've only got the one, blimey, am I missing out?

I'm afraid my lovely HTC Desire swims about in the depths of my bag, along with the crumbs and fluff.....

MI, handbags are so personal, so it's difficult to advise. I also like a large one (but not necessarily a stiff one, ahem...) as I tote about an enormous wallet, an umbrella, a make-up bag, several pairs of sunnies and the obligatory smartphone. I have been known to lose small children in the depths of my handbag.

wilbur · 06/05/2012 16:52

You see, I find large handbags to be the kiss of death for sunnies. Or the crush of death, rather. Hence the longing for some kind of internal organisation system. So that when I have lost something, I will have 24 spaces to rootle through instead of just one. Hmm

motherinferior · 06/05/2012 17:46

I secretly yearn for 13" (oh fnar) but fear I should go up a size to accommodate possible A4 sized stuff. Even though I don't carry around A4 paper very often it's infuriating when you just can't squash it in...

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/05/2012 17:47

I lose everything in my handbag, regardless of the size of it - it all falls to the bottom and I scrabble around for ages trying to find stuff. Particularly a ringing phone.

Can any of you think of a game to play at the school fete which is traditionally British, and we can give small prizes for? We were going to have a coconut shy but cannot find large numbers of coconuts cheap enough anywhere.

motherinferior · 06/05/2012 18:07

Pin the tail on the donkey is the only one I can think of and don't think it would work...

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/05/2012 18:12

I am going to have to spend time next week sourcing bloody coconuts, aren't I? I am getting hugely stressed by this. I also have no idea on quantities - I am baking 150 scones Shock, we are serving strawberries and cream, too, but no idea how many kilos to tell people to get. Ditto cans of squirty cream.

motherinferior · 06/05/2012 18:19

Nononono do NOT get stressed. Do not source fecking coconuts. You have a proper job, you cannot waste your time coconut-hunting. NO.
