How to be groomed?

blobtobetter · 14/02/2012 21:03

Basically I look like a scruff! I don't have any set routine so forget sometimes to do my eyebrows until the are hideous werewolflike messy and my nails are ignored. My skin is atrocious too. I just never seem to be able to look groomed and pretty!!

Do you have a daily / weekly / monthly grooming routine?

How much time do you spend on your looks?

I am thinking that professional help might be needed! Tempted by HD Brows but they would look wrong if the rest of me is well a mess.

I have just never been organised about all this beauty stuff. It is like everyone else was taken into a secret "how to be groomed" lesson that I missed out on. Come to think of it, I missed the "how to style your hair" and "how to dress so you don't look like you got dressed in the dark.... in your Nan's wardrobe" lessons too!

Please talk to me about Simple Face Wash - used it for 3 or 4 days and my face feels like it is mildly sunburnt - all tight and itchy.

Needless to say I have now stopped, but I wondered if anyone else got this sensation?

What to use instead? Need something seriously seriously gentle (which I thought Simple would be - all the blurb on the tube is about how they are experts in sensitive skin etc..... Confused Hmm)

I really don't get on with Simple products - they are too harsh for my skin! And yes I know that tight stingy feeling well!

Not just me then... I was slightly put off by the small print (nasty ingredients) behind all the "WE ARE ALL NICE AND SOFT" packaging and marketing bumph crap.. but thought, no, give it a go.

Face now in recovery!

I have just started using NAKED hair products and am so impressed I am going to give their face wash and body wash a go, although I am OCM atm. Free of all the big nasties too and cheap!

My Naked shampoo arrived yesterday, used first time this morning! Didn't even think to look for their skin care, good idea..... Not sure my crappy Boots will stock (though may take a quick look later....). I just want something that cleans my face, not strips it off!

How does OCM work - do you like it? I think there was some stuff higher up the thread from memory (though long thread so goodness knows where....!). I've never tried it. My skin is so dry and sensitive. What oil do you use if you don't mind me asking?

I have always used coconut oil and almond oil now and again over the years but not as a proper cleansing routine iykwim?

I was a bit reluctant to use castor oil on my face but have been talked round as apparently that's what gets rid of all the nasties. I don't ever have spots but I do have occasional white heads so I am hoping that will help. Last night was the first time I used almond oil properly to massage my face with and then removed with a hot muslin cloth - it felt really lovely. Will be interesting to see how I get on with the castor oil as well.

Wrt the Naked shampoo - I am massively impressed with it, I used a detox one as I had product build up and then I also have a mild one for sensitive scalps as I am prone to flakiness - all of the dryness and flakes ( urggh!) went after just one wash and my hair looks seriously good, even if I do say so myself Wink You can order the products on line as they have a website.

Started curling my hair each evening for the next day - feel much better and like my body has some body to it. Not sure why I stopped doing it as it only takes 5 mins and lasts all the next day until I wash it.

AnonymousbirdI've had the same problem with Simple! Their toner was so harsh that it felt like I'd cleaned my face with paint stripperEnvy! I was livid and wrote to complain they sent me a £5 voucher for boots and a chart to fill out explaining the problem.

Their toner is so harsh it must have alcohol in it!

Mrs M what's your opinion in MAC mineralise skin finish natural? I would sweep this over my face when pregnant and was told I was glowing (even though I wasn't! Aaah make up is a wonderful thing!)

Recently tried Bobbi Browns tinted extra balm! Wow! It was lovely makes my skin look all dewy with a tiny amount...the lady at the BB counter was kind enough to give me a sample before I shelled out £34 (!!) for the product after I explained how sensitive my skin is. The sample lasted 2 1/2 months of daily usage! I had to go to a BB twice to get the sample as the first time I asked was told that I should buy the product and then could return it if it didn't work!

rainbow is the extra balm yellow in colour in a tub/jar? If it's what I think it is Barbara Daly does a version for £7 called Face Lift which even smells the same and is fantastic!

As you all keep raving about Barbara Daly stuff, I'm planning a trip out to our "big" Tescos next week (on a child free day!) what BD products should I buy? All of them? Grin

bessie

Flawless Primer
Face Lift illuminating cream
Nail Polishes - she does a very nice taupe/brown colour that I like.
Pressed powder in a black compact - worth it just for the mirror for your hand bag!
Crystal nail file - not with the make up but with the stuff by the deodorants -and nail clippers etc in our Tesco
Her brush set for £15 looks fab too although haven't tried it.

3 for 2 offer on atm.

It's not a huge range but what there is is fab quality and very good!

Well this thread got me into training for returning back to work after mat leave.

For the last couple of weeks I have been using all of the tips on here, (mainly from the now legendary MrsM) I have been doing my hair and makeup properly every day and have got the time down to 30mins! I still haven't got hold of the now mythical Barbara Daly primer from Tescos but I am not going to quit - if needs be I can cash in my sizeable boots points and go to the counters.

I managed to sqeeze in putting on my hair/face masque whilst cleaning the shower by taking my shower, washing my hair/face, putting on the masque and whilst waiting for it to do its magic, clean the shower and then rinse off. Not ideal as I would like to be lying in bed relaxing but with a small baby in tow, I have more chance of winning the lottery!

Thanks again everyone.

I got my LD nail buffer today & have lovely shiney nails Grin

I have nominated thursdays as my pamper evening (DH is usually out) - gave my hair a treatment this week & got the exfoliating glove out - can anyone recommend a nice scrub instead of me using what feels like a pan scrubber?

Clinique (the one in a big pot that smells minty) or Soap and Glory. Excellent body scrubs (but I do love scratchy stuff...)

I have just read through this whole thread in one sitting and for once have not been frustrated that DD takes forever and ever and ever a little while to settle. Such good tips from you lovely ladies.
