How to be groomed?

blobtobetter · 14/02/2012 21:03

Basically I look like a scruff! I don't have any set routine so forget sometimes to do my eyebrows until the are hideous werewolflike messy and my nails are ignored. My skin is atrocious too. I just never seem to be able to look groomed and pretty!!

Do you have a daily / weekly / monthly grooming routine?

How much time do you spend on your looks?

I am thinking that professional help might be needed! Tempted by HD Brows but they would look wrong if the rest of me is well a mess.

I have just never been organised about all this beauty stuff. It is like everyone else was taken into a secret "how to be groomed" lesson that I missed out on. Come to think of it, I missed the "how to style your hair" and "how to dress so you don't look like you got dressed in the dark.... in your Nan's wardrobe" lessons too!

Any cleanser imo but take off with a warm muslin cloth.

mosschops30 · 29/02/2012 16:21

My LD file arrived. Can you file with both sides of it? It goes through me, like scratching my nails on a blackboard Sad

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 16:22

moss you get used to it but it does me too!

Kellamity · 29/02/2012 16:37

I get hard skin that sometimes split along the side and in the corner of my nails. I always think if I could just get rid of that my hands would look so much nicer Sad Any tips?

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 16:39

I use Elizabeth Arden's 8 hr cream for that kellamity - it's really good and much cheaper if you buy it from the website Cheapsmells, £8 for a tub that lasts ages.

Kellamity · 29/02/2012 16:40

Ooh really valium thanks for that I will go and have a look at that website Smile

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 16:42

I put it on last thing at night and it really helps. I get dry skin then am tempted to pick and it makes my fingers sore - this stops all that.

Kellamity · 29/02/2012 16:43

Stupid question Valium but which one do you get? The 8 hour hand cream? (there are 4 creams to choose from)

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 16:46

Just had a look on the website. The one I got was a cream in a tub but it's not on their now, it was just the normal cream not especially for hands although I bet that is lovely! I would start off with the bog standard £7.95 one and see how it goes then branch out later if you like it :)

Kellamity · 29/02/2012 16:48

Just read the descriptions of each one and I think you're right it's the cheapest one I need, says it's for hard skin and hang nails etc! Yay I need the cheapest one DH would faint!!! Grin

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 16:50

Oh does it? I didn't realise, I just used some in desperation. It's great for chapped lips too. It is like very thick vaseline with a lemony citronella smell. Odd but not unpleasant imo.

Kellamity · 29/02/2012 16:51

Ordered and on it's way! Thank you - maybe one day I will have nice nails what with my LD file, Opi Nail Envy and now 8 hour cream Grin

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 16:54

I hope it works! I am sure just the act of massaging it in helps. I love that site and delivery is really quick too!

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 16:54

Let me know how you get one with it :)

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 16:55

on stupid computer

Kellamity · 29/02/2012 16:56

I will Smile

Now then I must find out what I am supposed to be doing with this coconut oil now that I have some! Grin

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 16:57

I rub it into dry hair and scalp and wrap in a turban towel and leave for as long as possible or over night. When you shower don't wet the hair first, put shampoo on first THEN add water to wash it off.

Kellamity · 29/02/2012 17:00

Oh brilliant thanks once again Smile

mosschops30 · 29/02/2012 17:01

The heavy duty Elizabeth Arden 8 hour crem is the 'skin protectant', its amazing you can use it as an overnight handcream, on lips, sunburn, sore skin etc. i get though loads, its the best hand cream in the world!

Does anyone use Bio Oil on their face? I got some cheap in the chemist today, i thought i could use it at night after cleansing and toning instead of a moisturser. In place of my Decleor oil that im giving up. Has anyone tried it?

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 17:10

I don't like Bio oil and it was stingy on my face but it's worth a go!

mosschops30 · 29/02/2012 17:15

Have you used it anywhere else valium? Did it hurt on your face?

CheerfulYank · 29/02/2012 17:15

I ordered Simple face wash and am v excited for it to come in the mail! My skin has been terrible lately...I look old. I'm going to be 30 in May, and until a few years ago I looked about seventeen. Now there's been a terrible shift and I look like an exhausted forty five year old.

I am not going to take this lying down. Angry

Kellamity · 29/02/2012 17:15

Why are you giving up your Decleor oil? I was just wondering wether to get an oil for night time. I have a sample Decleor one but it's a zingy wide awake one so no good for night time.

mosschops30 · 29/02/2012 17:18

I have changed to Liz Earle, i find Decleor too expensive and there is just too much stuff so it gets more and more expensive cleanse, tone, night balm, eye gel, then cleanse, tone, moisturise, oil.

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 17:18

I used it on a very bad scar but then my physic laughed and told me exactly why it wouldn't work so I switched to silicon plasters which DO work anywaaaaay... yes I found it stingy on my face. Avon do a nice lavender and jasmine facial oil and I use that occasionally. I am sure sweet almond oil would work just as well.
