I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

Chunky please tell me you are at work in an open-plan office. Grin

Fimbo · 10/02/2012 16:18

I have thin fine hair with a fringe just below jaw line. Will it work as I cannot quite get all the hair far enough over into the ponytail. I am going to the hairdresser Monday at 9. So could in theory have it corrected or phone up and cancel because "i've done it myself" Grin

Grin

To be honest I got sick and tired of passing over the best part of forty quid to hear "snip snip snip" = done. Out in just under half an hour.

Unless I'm thinking of a complete re-style i'll be saving my pennies from now on.

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 16:19

Ok. I have my hair in the pony tail. It is approx 23cm long according to DS is this too short? How much should I cut off?

Psammead · 10/02/2012 16:20

Well, the back just wont get cut, Fimbo.

You could always do a ponytail right at the top of your head, like a teletubbie, and just cut a very small amount off to get rid of any split ends etc, and then do the MN cut.

OMG a MN haircut live feed.

ChunkyPickle · 10/02/2012 16:20

I didn't bother chopping in - I like it as-is - if I notice any blunt lines later then I'll have a go.

My hair was pretty long - more than a foot from the back of my neck, and the same length (due to the aforementioned two plaits and chop technique) - now it's about a foot from the back of my neck.

Psammead · 10/02/2012 16:20

How long do you want your fringe? StickA?

OP posts:
Quenelle · 10/02/2012 16:22

ChunkyPickle that is impressive Smile

The only thing holding me back is imagining the shaming trip to the hairdressers to get it fixed. Takes me right back to when I was 11 and the Gloss Paint Incident...

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 16:22

I don't know Psammead I just want a new hair do!
Ok, maybe just above jaw length?

Psammead · 10/02/2012 16:23

Imagine when you release the ponytail, how short are you imagining it at the front? If jawline, for example, cut it a tiny bit longer than the distance from the ponytail to your jaw.

Afraid not LadyWellian.... just me and anyone passing the window on the street..

Stick - it worked well with my cowards chin-length - you can always chop more off if you get bored later Grin

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 16:25

Ok when I release ponytail it is on my jaw. I'm going to take about 1.5 inches off and see how it looks.

Psammead · 10/02/2012 16:25

Yes, go on the cautious side because if it's still too long you can have another go.

ChunkyPickle · 10/02/2012 16:26

I'm growing out an ill-advised bleach-job anyhow (now a kind of orange I choose to call auburn) - it has to all go eventually, but I need to keep enough length to put my hair in a normal pony tail..

LadyWellian · 10/02/2012 16:26

Quenelle there must be a hairdresser you dislike. If you do have to go and get it fixed and the hairdresser says 'OMG who cut your hair last time', just pretend it was SuperCuts someone else.

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 16:29

Right. Just under 2 inches gone. ohmygodohmygod what if it looks crap? Is it too early for wine? Shall I try the cutting in bit now? (couldn't find the kitchen scissors so have used nail scissors)

Showmethemhappyfeet · 10/02/2012 16:30

Does this work for long hair? Just about waist length? I'm desperate for a haircut but jus don't have the 40 quid to do it!

Psammead · 10/02/2012 16:31

Come ooon! Get that ponytail out and have a look!

Ifancyanewname · 10/02/2012 16:31
