I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

I cut mine dry. Risk of too much cut if wet.

Psammead · 10/02/2012 16:37

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 10/02/2012 16:37

This thread is gripping! Grin

I so want to have a go but I don't think my hair is long enough Sad

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 16:38

uh oh - its all gone awry - see this is what'd happen to me....

FoofFighter · 10/02/2012 16:38

mrsDb, the stabby bit is to tidy them up and make them less chunky though, not to put layers in, the actual first cut does that?

I have resorted to the MN haircut and I like it and had a hairdresser friend who knew I was wanting it cut at the posh salon she goes to asking if had been there Shock

Right, taken off about 3/4 inch. Time for stabby stabby. This is the bit I am most nervous of. Any tips?

LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite · 10/02/2012 16:39

Thanks DeeBee.

FoofFighter · 10/02/2012 16:39

Although I should add when I first did it I buggered it up somewhat and ended up having to have a full fringe again after I had been growing it out for the last year Blush but its' ok now Grin

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 16:39

Yes, the stabby bit is to sort of 'feather' the layers, I think ? Confused

The pony tail does need to be right at the top of forehead really. Iyswim ?

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 16:40

On the video, the man said look for any straight lines and cut into them?

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 16:40

Nooo Foof Don't say that when I'm in the middle of doing it!

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 16:40

Stick

Just do it quickly and not too far in !

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 16:40

stop bloody typing woman and concentrate on your stabby stabby

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 16:41

Fuck it, I am pouring myself a glass of wine whilst I consider the best stabby stabby method.

surely stabby stabby + wine = wonky wonky?

Save it for afterwards!

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 16:41

Do I cut upwards?

FoofFighter · 10/02/2012 16:42

stick Just bunch it in your hand in dive into it with little snips, moving your scissors all the time. Do it for about 10-15 snips then release and see how it looks, if there are still obvios layers then bunch it back and have another go

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 16:42

Grin @ wonky wonky

FoofFighter · 10/02/2012 16:42

up towards the booble

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 16:42

Stick

You just have to make little cut movements in the end of the pony tail, not too far in, it's kind of hard to explain, especially as you are doing it 'upside down' too.

I feel your fear, but be brave !

mrsalwaysawake · 10/02/2012 16:43

Just did it!!

Looks nice!
Was mid-back, now about 6 inches shorter, lovely layers round face!
