Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

1028 replies

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

SeymoreButts · 28/09/2011 14:36

Ok, it sounds like a kit is best! This place looks cheapest (I love a bargain)....

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 28/09/2011 14:37

That is unbelievably cheap Shock

I'm well jel.

SeymoreButts · 28/09/2011 14:42

This winter I will mostly be looking REEM!

Actually that website is quite good, I like the "embarrassing" section the most, now I can stock up on femfresh maxi tampons without feeling sheepish.

valiumredhead · 28/09/2011 14:42

LOL@ well jel Grin

It IS cheap though!

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 28/09/2011 14:44

Erm What does REEM mean? I keep hearing people say it and all I can thinking of is rimming!

SeymoreButts · 28/09/2011 14:46

Ha ha! Joey Essex from towie says it, I think it means gorgeous darling! I hope so, otherwise I've unwittingly been talking about rimming a lot... Blush

valiumredhead · 28/09/2011 15:33

The OED definition for reem is somewhat a non-starter, being attested as a noun only: ?a large, horned, ox-like animal mentioned in ancient Hebrew literature?. However, ream is defined as ?Originally: genuine. Now: excellent; of good quality?. (Marked as ?slang? and ?rare?). The etymology is shakey, though, with a possible connection being with the now obsolete adjective rum meaning ?good, high quality, excellent; extra ordinary, great?

So, unsurprisingly, reem is not a new word conjured up by the walnut-whip-like-hair-covered mind of Joey Essex. Although part-time prescriptivist trolls have been quick to comment on groups with things like ?its [sic] REAM not REEM?, die-hard Essex disciples won?t care; reem is how Joey spells it himself on his Twitter.

I googled Grin It means 'rare' and 'excellent quality' in Hebrew literature.

TracyK · 28/09/2011 15:42

I've bought from lily lolo before - they send you samples of a couple of colours for you try.
Chemist Diret - packaging is dreadful. I got stuff before - packet burst open in transit and I lost a shampoo from it.

rusmum · 28/09/2011 15:49

i bought it and cant take to it. It comes off so quickly. Back to estee lauder dw for me within 2 weeks of buying be

Pinot · 28/09/2011 19:56

Oh god, I'm such a sheep.

I bought it.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 28/09/2011 20:01

pinot Grin Grin

Have you ordered it online or are you holding the holy grail in your hand rightthisminute?

And when can we expect a full report?

valiumredhead · 28/09/2011 20:03

Baahhhhhhhhh!! Wink

QuinnFabray · 28/09/2011 20:06

I bought some too, it was despatched today. Despite your enthusiam, I am fully prepared for it to turn into an oil slick on my face, like 99% of all foundations I've ever tried, including Lily Lolo. I will report back . . .

meltedchocolate · 28/09/2011 20:22

I'm so pretty, oh so pretty....

It lasts very well! Dead chuffed :o

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 28/09/2011 20:24

Oh I'm so glad Melted Grin

I know it sounds shallow, but I am quite fat, you see, and have always had a nice face, and when even my face looked foul I got so depressed, because I had nothing going for me and honestly, I feel so much more confident now....

MadamTwoSwords · 28/09/2011 20:31

Have just tested it and it covered the acne scars on my face!! WTF I have spent so much money on foundations in the last year to cover the fuckers and something that has been gathering dust in my bag for 6 months did the trick!!

Finally at the age of nearly 21 30 I have nice skin.

The real test will be a full day at work tomorrow in this stupid heat but I have high hopes!

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 28/09/2011 20:33

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH I'm so glad Madam!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I just can't believe it. When Counter Lady told me it'd cover the centimeter wide spot scar on my jaw I laughed in her face. In her FACE I tell you!

I've now done 3 'full day at work' tests and it stood up magnificently. Be sure to report back 2moz

valiumredhead · 28/09/2011 20:35

HOORAY! Good innit! Grin

Jux · 28/09/2011 20:40

I did it!!!! Went in this afternoon, with much trepidation and embarrassment, especially since I had to clean off the muck I'd already got on.

I'm not sure how pretty I am, but my skin feels nice and dd said I looked much fresher. I did like the stuff and found putting it on quite easy (wait 'til the morning when I don't have my mentor standing there cheering me on!). I'll get it all wrong, I'm sure Grin. Still I have loads of time tomorrow morning so that's OK. I'm medium, btw.

She put 4 stripes of different colours and asked me which one I thought was best. TBH, I've had to put so much crap on my face over the years - and all of them the wrong colour - that I really didn't know Blush. She told me, and she was right. It's soooooo much better. I got a starter kit, blusher and a buxom lip gloss. I feel new and shiny, instead of like an old toy stuffed in the back of a cupboard collecting dust. Grin

Thank you everyone!

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 28/09/2011 20:42

Aaaah another cult member - this thread is making me SO MUCH HAPPIER than it should Grin

Have fun tomorrow bux - I do think the first time of fully doing The Face is quite fun. What's that, MNHQ? You're introducing a 'Get a fucking life' emoticon? Blush

valiumredhead · 28/09/2011 20:45

At the beginning it can seem a bit of a faff but you get really quick at applying it.

Jux · 28/09/2011 21:02

Yes, I went a bit mad with my credit card Grin. I am really looking forward to tomorrow (get a fucking life Jux)
