Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

Can I just ask is this wonder stuff any good for ahem slightly older skin that is quite dry? And does it feel cakey? I hate cakey.

cleanteeth · 25/09/2011 20:07

I think I'm going to ask for a kit for christmas after reading everybodys posts! Cant bare to spend the money out of my clothes/beauty fund 'cos I think I'll only use it for special occasions and days where I'm feeling a bit crap.

I'm scared I'm going to become addicted though! Does it really last 2 years??!!

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/09/2011 20:08

Yes I too wonder about dry skin - I never use powder normally . . .

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 20:08

Folly I imagine it would be A-OK. It is not at all cakey - it's powder, you see, which you swirl-and-puff on in fine layers, so it's not clagging everything up with a mousse or whatnot. And they give you a primer which is quite moisturising...

OP posts:
JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 20:10

It is a bit of an investment, like. I wouldn't have spent anything like that much money if I hadn't gone for a test and practically fallen off the stool in shock when she showed me the mirror.

I reckon most big dept stores do it so y'all could try it out. I mean it can't possibly be for everyone. Unless it actually IS magic...

It's also all natural, right? like mineral stuff? So apparently (and I do realise I've fallen for everything the woman said) it'll be good for my very sensitive skin, cos it'll have no nasties in it.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/09/2011 20:12

I deffo don't find it cakey. I didn't get a primer in my kit so to quote the great Moz- what difference does it make?

meltedchocolate · 25/09/2011 20:12

Dammit ladies. All this talk and excitement of perfect skin and tutorial videos and I have forgotten to get on with redoing my french manicure. tut tut :o

TattyDevine · 25/09/2011 20:18

Its not quite as "pure" as they make out as in there is some kind of banned substance that the knit-your-own-lentil types don't like, but its still good compared to some other shite.

There will be people that say you look like a powdery old lady but only you can know that.

I don't reckon everyone does but I also suspect there is a time it starts doing less for you, in terms of wrinkles and pores.

But there are possibly exceptions to that.

I'd say anyone wondering, try it with QVC, not just because of TSV's (today's special values) but because they have a 30 day money back guarantee if you hate it.

Try the colours in store, buy at QVC.

TattyDevine · 25/09/2011 20:18

Money back guarantee means you can use it and still send it back. Buy then try then change thy mind.

CoteDAzur · 25/09/2011 20:20

I've been using L'Oreal mineral foundation for years. It is fantastic, as people here have described, and costs about 5 pounds.

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/09/2011 22:02

I hated it. It settled cosily into my wrinkles and drew attention to them. It made me look like I had huge pores (I don't). It screamed crepey old lady. The Orange Lady in Selfridges snapped at me "Well most mature women such as yourself really like it." Bitch.

KristinaM · 26/09/2011 08:43

wow she sounds a charmer! i can see why she went into sales as a career. orange AND rude, what a great combination

JodieHarsh · 26/09/2011 08:50

UPDATE

.....because obviously you're all dying to know how it's going Hmm

So, this expenditure was precipitated by the fact the office bogs have the world's most hideous, harsh lighting. Couple this with the fact I've departed my fresh-faced 20s, when I'd frequently be told how very beautiful my face was, and entered my 30s, after a hideously stressful year, basically every time I went for a wee I came out suicidal.

NOT THIS MORNING, COMPADRES. 2 hours and a commute after application, under hideous bright strip-lighting, I look like I've just had a week's rest at a Swiss spa AND been gently touched-up.

It's MIRACULOUS .

Mrs despite my high praise I do see how that could happen (the open pores, not the bitch at Selfridges!) - I def. need the primer. Small price to pay though, imo...

Checked the post yet Melted ? Grin

Glad you've found the path to salvation JodieHarsh. Another convert here. I've been using it for about 4 years. Occasionally I'm lured back to trying a liquid foundation and without fail it brings me out in loads of spots - even really nice foundations like Bobbi Brown. With mineral foundation my skin is loads better.

Just to say that you really don't need to spend £90 (not very helpful, I know, since you've already spent it). But for future reference, www.lilylolo.co.uk really is just as good and much cheaper. You don't need tonnes of brushes and all the different mineral veils, warmth face colour things. You just need the foundation IMO and a decent kabuki brush (which presumably you've now got).

You can also get some good deals. I think there's 20% off bare escentuals at ASOS at the moment. Also, if you know anyone going to the US get them to pick you some up there as it's cheaper. Or just go for Lily Lolo.

trixymalixy · 26/09/2011 09:20

I am going to have to give this a try, my skin sounds similar to yours Jodie, I always look grim.

SueNarmy · 26/09/2011 09:21

you are an old powdery lady with red tiny teeny lips and no eyebrows because of hte powder

valiumredhead · 26/09/2011 09:26

It's great, I have been using it well over a year now!

Once you know your colours you can order much more cheaply from FEELUNIQUE - fab website and free delivery.

HOW did you spend £90???????? Shock I bought the starter set in Debenhams originally for £45 which included the brushes, foundation, veil, warmth and primer.

SueNarmy · 26/09/2011 09:28

a VEIL

falls on floor

oh that IS sexy " i must put my veil on"

JodieHarsh · 26/09/2011 09:30

as a matter of fact Sue as a matter of fact I am a flawless fresh-faced young maiden with a plump glistening pout.

OP posts:
SueNarmy · 26/09/2011 09:31

i dont want to know about your pout, you harlot

JodieHarsh · 26/09/2011 09:33

valium - I misread m'damn till receipt - it was £80.

I bought 2 kits - one starter kit for complexion which was £43 (fiver off I think?) and one for eyes, lips and cheeks which was £37 (fiver off).

so I have basically all the make-up and brushes in the world.

The eyes lips and cheeks is 2 shadows, a powder liner, a blusher, lip gloss and loadsa brushes...
