Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

Has anyone on here got the Bisque? I think they have started selling it with the kits now, but mine was bought ages ago, and didn't come with one. I'm getting boozers nose thread veins at the sides of my nose and need a decent concealer but I wondered if the Bisque might be better for that, (and give a bit of darker contouring?) than my usual base colour. I alternate between Light and Fairly Light depending on the time of year/tan level.

CristinadellaPizza · 03/10/2011 18:10

I have the Bisque - it comes with the starter kit from LookFantastic. I used it to cover the red bits under my nose/under my eyes/spots/thread veins. Worked like a charm

valiumredhead · 03/10/2011 18:13

I use Bisque on the redness of my cheeks - works well!

A really good post from whojimmyflip on another thread....

" Just to clarify for you. Mineral makeup is excellent for shinies as it works with the oil on your skin - not against it. That's the lovely creamy finish you get 15 mins after putting it on.

Brands: bare escentuals is a big American brand and it is good but expensive AND their foundations have a lot of light reflecting particles, even the matte ones. You can't see it unless you rub some on the back of your hand and go outside into the sunlight. that is why I cannot use it for filming / photography.

Lily lolo is a smaller company and their foundations are much less light reflecting so they are IMO more wearable.

You can counteract the shiny particles by finishing with the mineral veil - all mineral brands seem to have some sort of finishing powder like this.

Avoid the words luminescent, light reflecting etc. All it means is shine. Fine on cheekbones not fine on noses

Also BE is not as natural as it would have us believe. Lily lolo is. "

Can't believe it was in cleaning all morning decided to eat lunch alfresco for 5 mins and missed a delivery which was bound to be IT ! Hopefully I will have it tomorrow but after reading further comments by people I don't think it is going to suit me. I don't usually wear foundation only as concealer around the eye area .I was hoping for something that makes your skin sparkley in the same way lift and luminate (No 7)does but that can look a bit white and patchy. The best thing I have found to date is bourgois illuminating touch in rose. Can anyone recommend anything similar as I think BE is going to be too heavy for me.

MadamTwoSwords · 03/10/2011 19:29

So after watching 4 or 5 videos on YouTube I think I've finally got the hang of this swirltapbuff malarkey.

Have had a couple of spots appear though, has anyone else had this or am I just unique freak ?

Ps hope you get a nice thank you Jodie Grin

gregssausageroll · 03/10/2011 19:42

kerstina it is only as heavy as your application. Start with a tiny amount and see how you get on.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 03/10/2011 20:05

Just found somewhere that does 10day sample pots with a brush for free! Well, you have to pay £3.50 postage but still a bargain if you wanted to try another shade maybe?

Here

OhThisIsJustGrape · 03/10/2011 20:09

Oh and you get a £2 voucher with it :)

PetiteMum · 03/10/2011 20:41

So is the matte better than the original?

monkeysmama · 03/10/2011 20:55

The By Terry lip balm is one of my favourite products ever. It is very nourishing and gives just a hint of pinky gloss. In fact I think it goes very well with BE. It undoes some of the being all made up in a good way.

fannybanjo · 03/10/2011 21:33

Just watched tutorials on YouTube which has helped but definitely should have bought light. Not a total waste though as mineral veil and concealer fine so I'll order a small pot of light when I've used all the fairly light up. I think I'm not buffing long enough which makes you put more on hence cakey feeling.

Please ladies - stop with the Space NK links. I'm too muchofasheep weak! Baaaaaa!

hester · 03/10/2011 22:31

Ok, this is getting a bit obsessive. I just bought a whole load of sample sizes from lolo lily Blush. I blame Pinot and I'll be sending her the bill. You see, now Jodie has got me started on this journey of discovery, it's not enough to have mineral powders: I have to have the BEST mineral powders.

Will report back.

Kewcumber · 03/10/2011 22:41

we could have coffee hester and you could let me twirl my brush in your powders (Tuesdays better) [flutter eyelashes]

DollyTwat · 03/10/2011 23:14

well if I put a teenie bit on and buff buff buff it doesn't look too powdery or even that I have anything on at all

I agree with Getorf it's not for me really but I'm going to get my money's worth! My skin is quite good really apart from open pores and this stuff isn't the best for that really.

Now I'm going to spend loads on all the other things you've recommended aren't I

Quite like it in Style and Beauty, I guess I don't come here often as I'm not beautiful or stylish Grin

fannybanjo · 04/10/2011 11:12

Hmm I've put it on again and I'm not too convinced.... I definitely think Avon's is the one for me. However my skin not in tip
top condition at the moment as I'm due on so probably not helping. I buffed for longer this morning too

GetOrfMo1Land · 04/10/2011 11:21

I have woken up with a spot on my cheek.

I never get spots.

I think it is the BE stuff.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 04/10/2011 11:29

Oh noes! Shock

I have the clearest skin in ages. Still I suppose it was too much to expect that it was going to the Panacea of Powders. I might have to accept that it's not actually majick.

Is for me though. I am smug-and-flawless to the max

fannybanjo · 04/10/2011 13:17

GetOrf I have too - a whopper on side of my face. My face feels really tight with the BE on too... feel like scrubbing it off. Definitely not using it again - I'm loyal to the Avon one definitely.

valiumredhead · 04/10/2011 13:22

That'll be the bismouth in it - very common to get itchy/spotty with it. What a shame.

fanny which colour are you in BE and which in Avon?

GetOrfMo1Land · 04/10/2011 13:23

What the hell is bismouth?

Yes feel the same fanny - tight feeling. Strange.

Don't tell Jodie though IT'S OK JODIE IT DOES HAVE MAGICAL PROPERTIES REALLY Grin

There are only a few naysayers though, most people on this thread luff it.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 04/10/2011 13:26

Call me childish but I am sniggering at "Feel the same fanny, tight feeling" Grin

I have my fingers in my ears for the rest of it

La la la la la la la laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

GetOrfMo1Land · 04/10/2011 13:27

HaHAAAAAAAAA

You may have the skin of an angel Jodie but your mind is in the sewer Grin

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 04/10/2011 13:28

I may be in the gutter but I am looking up the skirts of the stars

As I believe our own dear Oscar Wilde didn't put it.

valiumredhead · 04/10/2011 13:54

NOT for Jodie's eyes -look away! Wink
