Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

OP posts:

Abs urge you to go to Space NK and get the woman to slather you in their foundation and concealer and blusher.

It is expensive but marvellous.

AbsDuWolef · 03/10/2011 15:10

Terry's a woman? (on Spacenk website). I thought that Terry was a man and I was thinking "a middle aged guy is making fab mascara? Hm. Okay".

That thread is TRULY bizarre, particularly the bit in the OP where they start going on about smooth buttocked male prostitutes. Eh?

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 15:12

Yes, Terry is a woman, I too thought for ages she must have been a vaguely Keith Chegwin looking bloke.

monkeysmama · 03/10/2011 15:15

The By Terry mascara is brilliant and works. It has made my lashes 1/3 thicker in five months. The Rose cream is excellent too. Only Biotherm comes close. I mix By Terry and Bare Minerals depending on how much of a rush I'm in, how tanned I am and where I'm going.

AbsDuWolef · 03/10/2011 15:16

This thread is going to end up being VERY expensive for me.

monkeysmama · 03/10/2011 15:17

I did that yesterday Getorf. Went to a wedding Saturday night. Was hungover yesterday and had pil over still. My Saturday night make up lasted all day.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 15:17

Meh, what is money if not to be spent on being beautiful or in my case barely adequate

Dillydollydaydream · 03/10/2011 15:44

My BE turned up about 10mins before having to leave for school rin so no playing yet :(
Would it be wasteful to take off my current face of makeup to try the BE?

I've just been home and rebuffed and added bit more and I actually do love it. Grin I think it's a product that you need to practice practice practice with.

AbsDuWolef · 03/10/2011 16:26

GetOrf - do you also recommend the By Terry eyeliner? I've been experimenting with above the lash eyeliner (been a water line or whatevs it's called fan for a while, now branching out). I need to practice my swooshes though, as today I'm a bit uneven. And they're swooshing up rather than down.

Pinot · 03/10/2011 16:31

Abs check the Sali Hughes video tutorial on Guardian online - she does one each week (always excellent - in fact I think she is GetOrf) - her eyeliner vid is great for dunces like moi

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 16:31

I haven't got the By Terry eyeliner - I have a kohl pencil of theirs but it is rather hard.

My fave eyeliners are

Gel eyeliners - Bobby brown is good and also the el cheapo maybelline one is great as well, and it comes with a brush (which saves forking out for the expensive BB one). Maybelline is black, BB comes in lovely brinzes and other colours, brilliant colour pigment and staying power.

Felt pen types - Loreal Superliner. This is really good and was my fave for a really smooth, easily to apply swooshy black line before I tried the gels.

Inkpot types - No7 - really good but you need a steady hand otherwise you look raddled. You need to practice practice practice. Gives a brilliant retro finish though. Don't attempt whilst pissed unless you are going to Amy Winehouse tribute party.

Kohl Pencil - Estee Lauder doublewear - really waxy and soft and gives a beaytiful finish.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 16:36

I like the sound of the By Terry mascara.

I have loreal hypnose at the mo, it's fine but my eyelashes are so sparse I would love a product which makes 'em grow.

AbsDuWolef · 03/10/2011 16:39

Thanks - will check them out. I've been looking at Sali Hughes for stuff like blush recommendations and lip balms. She's good. I have round eyes rather than almond shaped, so if I follow the natural curve to do swooshes I end up looking like a twat.

Which by Terry mascara is the lash growthy one? There's about four on the spacenk website.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 16:39

Sorry for hujacking your thread Jodie.

Pinot · 03/10/2011 16:39

Lancome Hypose :)

I the L'oreal superliners - spesh the new Luminizer range as they have a subtle glint of colour to make your eye colour pop. I am preening right now that GetOrf loves em too.

I use Booby Brown gels on rare nights out as I can take my time and get a gorge flick. On a school run day it's L'oreal all the way.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 16:41

Oh yes I meant Lancome - duh Grin

The superliners are so easy to put on - on rushed moments I put my make up on in the car at red lights, I can put the superliner on without looking.

Pinot · 03/10/2011 16:42

Do you ever do eyeliner under your eyes? Mine always looks piggy if I do (I have round eyes too unfortunately)

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 16:44

I want all that By Terry stuff.

all of it

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 16:45

Never liquid eyeliner - I would look like that mad scrote from X factor.

In daytime, just do the tops of lashes.

At night, kohl under lashes and blend blend blend, create cat shape with kohl, then go over with gel eyeliner (I don't look as TOWIE as that sounds btw)

Pinot · 03/10/2011 16:46

I want the Tom Ford make-up range. I would pee a little bit.

AnnetteProfit · 03/10/2011 16:46

even this thread is preferable to shit " use bicarb as exfoliator" thread

and breathes

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/10/2011 16:47

That reads like My Guy circa 1987 'how to make your own facepack' out of porridge oats and bananas.
