Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

OP posts:

Oh noes Hester Sad HATE it when you get to work and realise you've got eh dreaded cake-face

RIGHT.

The very very first time I put it on on my own, I managed one cheek then rushed to the bathroom to wash it off. I'd done it in very low lighting, and had put too much on, and my cheek looked all clagged. So the next time I did it I put so little on there was practically nowt on the brush and bingo, the dewy covered look. I don't have the bisque, I just use the foundation on a flat brush,

I think the flip side of the face that it gives such remarkable coverage and stays soooooooo long is that it is MEGA strong, so just the inciest bit too much and it's over-strong and cakey, does that make sense?

MissVerinder · 30/09/2011 10:29

Well, My kit came on Tuesday so I gave it a whirl yesterday.

WOW!

I messed it up the first time by putting too much on, so I washed it off and started again with a lot less, resulting in a lovely finish!

It lasted all day, after walking to school and back twice (20 mins each way) in the heat, cooking dinner and getting soaked at bath time!

I'm so pleased with it- I got my starter kit for £12 from look fantastic.com, with free PandP.

CristinadellaPizza · 30/09/2011 10:31

I was so excited to see a little package in the post this morning!

But it was not the BE, it was a new sewing machine belt. Still, that is also exciting as I have a pair of pyjamas to make for Iggle Piggle :o

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 30/09/2011 10:32

face FACT. Obviously. Sorry, am typing whilst sieving gazpache

Hurrah MissV :)

hester · 30/09/2011 10:35

Thanks, Jodie, I will not be disheartened (yet). You and Miss V have convinced me that it is my own heavy-handedness that is at fault. Tomorrow I shall put it on in daylight and see how I get on Smile

Can I just ask about all those extra things you can get? I watched the video and got the basics, but then it showed you how to put all these extra powders that are not in the starter kit. It looked like about six layers of powder, all going on one on top of the other. Has anyone tried these? Are they good? Isn't six layers a LOT of powder? Confused

Oh, and can I also ask about the colours you get in the starter kit: I have Light and Fairly Light. Presumably Fairly Light is darker than Light? In which case, is there any other use I can put it to since it will be too dark for my face? Or would anybody else like it?

hester · 30/09/2011 10:35

Hey, anybody who wants my bisque is welcome to it as well Smile

AmazingDisgrace · 30/09/2011 10:40

My SIL works for them but I didn't really get on with the foundation when she gave me it to try. This thread has given me a kick to try it again. I had problems with it sitting in my lines and it went cakey around my oil slick of a T-zone. I've got the solution.... I tried it ( a tiny amount) over the top of Garnier BB cream and its perfect! So if anyone else is still finding a few pore issues then try it with the BB cream, you have to let the BB cream settle for a few minutes though after putting it on then swirltapbuff as normal

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 30/09/2011 10:43

Despite my enthusiasm and behaving like a fully-paid up member of the BE PR team, I would say to hell with all the extra powders - keep your money for baubles and trinkets.

Firstly - fairly light is the lightest (I believe!). That's the one I'm using anyway and I think that's what they said...she told me to use fairly light now, and then if I go away and get a tan (pardon me while I pause to howl with laughter at the very idea) then I could switch to light.

My orange lady said you really only need the foundation and the mineral veil (she pretty much refused to sell me concealer!), and it's all in the application. I don't even use the warmth. I pop on primer, then do perhaps 2 or 3 invisble layers of foundation, cover my spots and red bits with a dab or two of the SAME foundation powder on the flat brush, then a quick dust of mineral veil and done.

If orange lady had said i had to use loads of different things I'd've walked off - I'm lazy terribly busy and important and have no time for all that...

meltedchocolate · 30/09/2011 11:04

I cant decide whether to stick with light or get fairly light next time. Problem is my face is a fair bit darker than the rest of my skin so uses light but then I think it makes it look like I am wearing too dark a colour for me. What do we think?

meltedchocolate · 30/09/2011 11:10

That made no sense. Basically ther rest of my body never sees any sun so is so much lighter than my face. weven my neck is quite a bit lighter then my face. Without make up that doesnt matter but when I wear makeup (that I match to my face colour) it looks like I have gone too dark for me, do we see what i mean? Should I just get the fairly light and look like a ghost all over?

MadamTwoSwords · 30/09/2011 11:22

Hester I'm interested in the bisque, I didn't get it in my kit. PM me please!

I don't know what I did differently this morning but I'm not loving it. My pores looked like craters and instead of looking fresh faced and fancy free I look cakey and weird. I don't think I did anything differently to yesterday apart from use a different moisturiser. Help me oh BE queens??

On a plus side it lasted a 10 minute bike ride to work without budging so very impressed at that. Smile

Snapespeare · 30/09/2011 11:33

I used benefit pore stuff this morning instead of the included base stuff. still works a treat. :) i think a lot is to do with tap swirl tap buff though. (not criticising your technique, but i can imagine it would be cakey old lady if you could see the powder on the brush)

LaDolcheRyvita · 30/09/2011 11:34

Meltedchoc....that's me!

Whenever I've had beauty counter advice, I've ended up with something that frankly, makes me look like I've been "dug up" Grin

I'm soooo pale. And if I wanted to look like an extra from "Twilight" I'd just go makeup free. My skins good for my age but I hate that to look like I'm alive, I have to BE someone else, makeup wise. You see, I hate the bloodless look I SHOULD be.....it just feels all wrong, even in the depths of winter.

Any advice ladies?

MadamTwoSwords · 30/09/2011 11:38

Thanks snapes think I am going to have to spend a bit of time practising tonight with youtube on the ipod stuck in front of me, think I'm not tapping enough!

Snapespeare · 30/09/2011 11:42

Have just emailed bare escentuals pointing them at this thread and suggesting they send JodieHarsh a bumper gift pack for all the word-of-mouth love she is spreading. Wink

valiumredhead · 30/09/2011 12:13

Good luck with that, I found their customer service utter crap when I emailed them about something!

CristinadellaPizza · 30/09/2011 12:23

I have had a dispatch confirmation from LookFantastic :o :o :o

kazzymac · 30/09/2011 12:36

and I too have succumbed!

Toffeefudgecake · 30/09/2011 12:41

OK, this stuff survived a night out at the pub, although I was in dim lighting, which is always good. Used it this morning (applied it about 8am) and it looked good at first, but now I'm looking a bit shiny round my nose and chin and I can see pores in both areas. I used a No7 primer as well. Should I use the matt one on those areas instead, maybe? (I used the one that's meant to make you glow).

Also, I used the bisque on my undereye shadows - is that wrong? But I can't fork out for a concealer as well!

I'm still tempted by the blushers, but which one? You all keep talking about 'the warmth' - is that the best one for a natural look?

hester · 30/09/2011 12:55

OK, so I'm going to try FairlyLight tomorrow and see if that works better with my super-pale skin. So nobody try to claim it because that offer is retracted!

MadamTwoSwords, however, is going to inherit my bisque...

Snapespeare · 30/09/2011 13:03

i went to the gym at lunchtime. it isn't all still on my face, but I am not the sweaty, bright red mess that I would normally expect to be.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 30/09/2011 13:05

Yippeeee! It's here, my little box of amazing miracleness Grin

Have just chiselled off removed my make up that I put on this morning, applied primer and just putting DS down for a nap then I shall begin the SwirlTapBuff-ing!

Will report back later :)

gregssausageroll · 30/09/2011 13:32

Hester - fairly light is the lightest followed by light.

You need to make sure your moisturiser has completely sunk in before you apply. I put mine on after shower then get dressed, fanny around, dry my hair, fanny around, eat my toast, freak at how late it is due to much fannying around before applying and leaving the house.

gregssausageroll · 30/09/2011 13:33

I have a warmth and a bisque if anyone is interested. PM me.

gregssausageroll · 30/09/2011 13:34

I ordered this yesterday

www.feelunique.com/p/Bare-Escentuals-bareMinerals-feeluniquecom-Exclusive-Day-to-Night-Set

I am also trying the illuminating mineral veil too.
