New thread here!

OP posts:
notyummy · 22/06/2011 19:54

Red - the RAF formal uniform (refered to as 'No 1s') hasn't changed much at all since WW2, so if you know anyone at all who has/is serving to borrow one then it would do - with a big moustache stuck on, a few buttons undone, big black scruffy boots with the trousers tucked in and a scarf rackishly worn round the neck = RAF Pilot. Fighter pilots worn the top button of their No1s undone (they still do!) to signify what they did, as the uniform constricted them and they needed to be able to move around for dogfights.

Alternatively, if he tries googling there are almost certainly specialist uniform hire places (or fancy dress!)

cardoon · 22/06/2011 20:01

£109 (£114 with P&P), just the one, lonely, pair of size 4's waiting for me Wink

must be a return as there weren't any there yesterday

stone was the only option - think that's probably for the best....more practical.

wideawakenurse · 22/06/2011 20:09

Oh, that's a stroke of luck. I was checking there too today for them.

They are the exact one's I want!!! I am very jealous of your jalouse!

cardoon · 22/06/2011 20:16

If it doesn't work out between me and Jalouse...... I'll let you know Wink

OllieinOrange · 22/06/2011 20:23

John Lewis sale has just started - website v slow. Would someone else care to share any good buys

Back from the school circus performance - DS1 rocked as a lion!

ReineDeSaba · 22/06/2011 20:42

carciofi I am a little worried about how the current elliots will look on me as you have a foot in height on me!but I need some 'nice' jeans i.e not covered in dd2s flying spoonfuls.

enjoyed looking at all your gorgeous husbands especially since mine forgot it was quiz night and still at office..will now stay in and eat all the gingerbread teddies baked today with dd1 Wink

does anyone know who WIT's wedding dress was 'by' ..did I miss it or did she not say

well done OWW's DS..love the sound of a school circus performance, much more exciting than painful squealing of violins,I think

ReineDeSaba · 22/06/2011 20:44

cardoon and wan please don't come to blows over the Jalouse..

ReineDeSaba · 22/06/2011 20:46

Sounds like you cracked it today bloss

(can you tell I'm still trawling through posts Grin )

wideawakenurse · 22/06/2011 20:57

Oh no, I was joking Reine, just shows how quickly stock comes in and out online.

cardoon hope you didn't think I was being rude...was joking about the play on words of jealous/jalouse shut up now WAN
When they come can you let me know what the 37 is like? May well decide to get them direct from Ash if you think the fit is good.

cardoon · 22/06/2011 21:19

Nooooooo, not at all - I liked your play on words, very witty, but you're not getting them!Grin

Love the fact that our thread is now including discussion about details of WW2 RAF uniform Grin

FritziGreenEyes · 22/06/2011 21:45

On a totally non S&B-related note: I have another deadline for handing in a manuscript and need to write an exercise for pupils to expand their range of adjectives. Trawling the Net for some new ideas, I came across this link. Describe Super Mum: friendly, helpful, patient. Yeah right, in my case more like impatient, shouty, tired. Need Wine now or I'll never finish.

Have seen that there are photos of W&A DHs mentioned and hope I can catch a glimpse later!

blindassassin · 22/06/2011 22:01

Hello again! I've been lured into posting again by your kind welcomes...so will share some recent sale avidity.

Burberry parka, am debating whether to keep as it's lovely on but not lined so am wondering if it's really just a very expensive cagoule Hmm Would appreciate your thoughts on it - love yellow but not sure if it's classic enough to love for years.

Agnes in olive and black Blush

Fritzi's striped tank - yet to arrive but shamelessly copying

Splendid drapey top - lovely but still ££ for a t shirt so undecided whether to keep

this Boden top in cream and coral - actually very nice on, great with houlis and Agnes for all the J Brand lovers Grin

Yellow patent heels - was thinking they'd go straight back but they're lovely on and surprisingly comfy

Also watching a beautiful pair of shoes on ebay, ending tonight. Will link tomorrow if I win them!

Oh dear that sounds like an awful lot written down. Need to hide my credit card for a few months weeks.

redllamayellowllama · 22/06/2011 22:02

Have just got back much earlier than planned (food bloody amazing; Mezze Mangal in Lewisham for any SE London ladies who fancy it; v, v reasonable and authentic) and think I may have caught the babysitter in (teenage) flagrante. Fit of giggles all round and left DH to deal with. They're chatting happily downstairs.

I've just worn my Jalouse with a little navy drapey jersey dress and camel longline cardie and I bloody love them. WAN I would absolutely pay full price for them if you can't get them on sale anywhere. They work with everything. Well done on your find herecomes.

Thanks for tips NY, we don't know anyone or have friends of friends even, who are serving. Have seen a couple on EBay, but they are the real deal and end up going for silly money. Will look into hiring from fancy dress.

Ash Jalouse are fast becoming the Janice of footwear....pondering whether I need some now! If I remember rightly LTEC was way ahead of the game as usual - am I right in thinking she had a pair months ago?

blossoming · 22/06/2011 22:16

blindassassin, I like the parka very much. Reminds me of the Aigle fishermen sou'westers. There is a photo of me as a toddler in one, on some wet ferry somewhere!
Great haul in fact. I have bought lots of Splendid but have sent most of it back. It does seem overpriced.
Thanks clevery, I shall have a long hard think.

OP posts:
redllamayellowllama · 22/06/2011 22:23

Blindassasin I also love the yellow Burberry. Absolutely gorgeous and you'll wear and wear I think. Still quite £££ but am guessing you can feel it in the quality. My fave thing about the Jalouse is the fact that they make my legs feel very slim. Ignore me though, I do tend to feel my purchases justified if others make the same ones!

FritziGreenEyes · 22/06/2011 22:45

Too many posts to catch up and comment on properly. Feels like old times!

Have finished writing with the help of half a glass of red wine. Makes me far less critical of my ideas and I filled the page quickly Smile.

cleverything Will make a note of that idea and will propose at next authors'/editors' meeting in July. I cannot reciprocate with useful diet tips as I am almost starving myself trying "to be good" during the day and end up eating straight from the fridge in the late evenings Blush. Jillian would so kick my ass ....

blindassassin Love the yellow Burberry! It will make you cheerful on a rainy day. I have to admit that it was actually DD (5) who chose the stripey top and I thought why not. I hope to get my delivery on Friday or Saturday as tomorrow is a public holiday here. Mind you the third one in June despite not having any royal weddings.

Don't know if I have checked out all the W&A DHs yet but I would nominate MrOllie for MrW&A of the month. Ooops, that must be the second half glass of red speaking. Ollie will now probably take back her invitiation to visit her asap Grin.

FritziGreenEyes · 22/06/2011 22:49

To feel a bit less stalkerish, have posted pic of DH.

ApuskiDusky · 22/06/2011 23:34

Hello all! I'm only half keeping up, and cannot ogle look at all the DH pictures as I'm on my phone, will try to see if they're still up tomorrow and post one of DH as well. And hello to those delurking - don't disappear if you aren't quite keeping up, I only manage to post a couple of times a week.

Can't believe I've been so busy over peak sale time, I've bought a couple of things from Reiss but not found anything else in the brief time I've had to look.

In a state of chaos at the moment , we've hired a man and a van for tomorrow to help DH stick our excess furniture into storage, and I've been trying to sort out my many books. Thank goodness I have a kindle now! DH and I still can't agree on what to put the house on for. He's optimistic and I've obviously been absorbing too much of the housepricecrash.com doom and gloom. EAs equally divided. Ah well, we might just toss a coin!

Red et al, am jealous of the Jalouses, I ordered some a while back but was between sizes and couldn't justify them. But yes, I ordered them after LTEC was enthusing about them.

And Bloss, sounds like your lesson went down a storm, good luck tomorrow night!

LTEC · 22/06/2011 23:54

hello, how odd to do a random late night check in and see my name!!

re Jalouses, yes, I bought mine back in Feb and have had lots of wear out of them (far more than I would have hoped, actually - )

so yes, would highly recommend. Would also say that they come up big if that's any help to anyone.

The Reiss dress that I was dithering over bc it was so similar to my (much cheaper) Zara one got taken back and exchanged for <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=pi-1a.prod.sfstat.net/thumb/ac/10/ac10b8e15808c134c7e1df19e80806c9f8d115cd-200.jpg&imgrefurl=www.stylefind.com/Reiss/-/3-REIS-29635731000/Reiss-Yarrow-Draped-Jersey-Dress&usg=__Te3qxRZRAA_tGXV-xvf4OKzXtCU=&h=200&w=200&sz=13&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=8_kMwQFjEtntgM:&tbnh=160&tbnw=160&ei=3HECTvHZMo-28QPMro2bDQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dreiss%2Byarrow%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Den%26biw%3D1695%26bih%3D837%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=702&page=1&ndsp=36&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0&tx=24&ty=58&biw=1695&bih=837" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this one, much more wearable.

Hope everyone gets some sunshine soon and that there's some good sales shopping being done!

notyummy · 23/06/2011 07:30

Morning all- good to see you LTEC!

On the train to London for a day of meetings in my va va voom P8 with black heels and fitted black linen jacket. At the moment the sun is shining! Forecast for Sunday and Monday looks good thus far....

Cleverly- I know Bloss swears by herIan Marber book, so that could be worth a try? I have to admit, cutting out as many carbs and sugar as possible and upping the protein worked for me. I only did it for a few days but I dropped 3 kilos and it reset my appetite. I didn't put it back on afterwards because I ate much less bread etc.
