As you did so well with the black, jersey maxi that puddled, I've seen some trousers...

And you can stop with the collective groan. I come here but once a year. Last year you were all marvellous and talked me through a successful shopping trip. Granted I only shopped for around 7 panic-filled minutes but I bought a dress. We all did very well.

Anyway, it's that time of year again. I've taken to noticing what those around me are wearing. It's when the sun comes out I think. People are so much more visible. So, I've seen some trousers. In the manner of a style and beauty thread a la me, the description will be dubious.

Do you remember culottes? I do. In the same sort of way I remember Top Cat and Knightmare. I grew up in the 80s you see. Anyway, they're not culottes in any way, shape or form but something about them is reminiscent of them. They're fairly loose fitting. If you caught the wearer in a gentle breeze and your glance was only cursory, I suspect you might be forgiven for thinking 'skirt'. Not so. They are definitely trousers. I've seen two people wearing them. In two different towns. This is how I know they're out there somewhere, possibly somewhere obvious. Right, dubious description, where was I...

They're blue. They have little flowers on them. They're wide-legged. I'd guess at cotton but as I'm not in the business of guessing materials, natural, synthetic or otherwise, there's a fair to middling chance they're not cotton. They might be polyester mix or hemp or sack or some other fabric that I neither know nor care about. Anyway, I know fabric in the same way I know fashion in general. Namely, not at all.

So blue, wide-legged, floral, loose, sort of swishy, worn by women in Costa and women at street parties.

Have you seen this woman? Did you notice her trousers? I have high hopes.

length?

TethersEnd · 01/05/2011 15:30

Palazzo pants. Will look.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 15:31

Trouser length.

Palazzo pants? Sounds continental.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 15:34

Google images agrees. They ARE palazzo pants. Never heard of them. How do you know this stuff?

Too much free time I am a satorial genius.

What sort of blue were they?

TethersEnd · 01/05/2011 15:38

sartorial, of course.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 15:39

There are sorts of blue? Can we do it by a process of elimination? If I say not navy or duck egg does that narrow it down? Oh not royal blue either.

They're um dark but not remotely nearing navy sort of dark. Quite a nice summery blue but darker than a summery sky. Shall I browse some paint samples?

Fashion and spelling are entirely different things. Your genius status remains without blemish. Of course I know nothing about fashion so anybody who can name items of clothing is bordering on gifted.

These?

TethersEnd · 01/05/2011 15:41

Nice work, Maiasaurus!

Are they them?

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 15:42

Similar Maia, but lighter blue and the flowers were coloured, not white. Looser too, possibly a different fabric because they weren't so 'formed'.

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 15:43

Very similar btw. Right style. Just the wrong pattern and possibly fabric.

Maiasaurus · 01/05/2011 15:44

Oh! I've come over all peculiar. Blush

Thank you, TethersEnd From you that is praise indeed.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 15:44

I'm off for a quick bath. This describing of clothes has taken it out of me a bit. Will be back...

River Island?

I'm off for a bit too now. Trying to teach DS2 to ride his bike with no stabilisers - my poor back.

cocolepew · 01/05/2011 15:52

cocolepew · 01/05/2011 15:52

Oh I like the RI ones.

Grin I love it when ShowOfHands strays into the Style & Beauty section.

I'm no help at all as nobody in my town appears to be wearing floral palazzo trousers this year (many, many white linen horrors though). But on the bright side, you did inspire me to buy a jersey puddle dress last year. Smile In fact I bought two.

madammecholet · 01/05/2011 16:08

Show of Hands it is soooooo good to see you back here. I missed you. Stay. Smile

TethersEnd · 01/05/2011 16:13

I always end up looking like a twat when SoH comes. Begone!

'stray' is about the right word for it. I sort of wander in, convincing myself it's a good idea and nobody will alert the village elders and have me removed. I quite like it here. You're all very friendly and incredibly clever. It's a bit like Switzerland. Sunny, relaxed, cheerful, real language barrier. I come but once a year though. Otherwise I become too relaxed and inadvertently screech 'patchwork' or 'tie dye' with gay abandon and everybody recoils in horror.

I really, really like the RI ones btw. They're brilliant and so close. The print is much smaller. Tiny flowers, possible red. They could be roses I suppose. I was very restrained when ogling the woman in Costa and refrained from pressing my nose up against her thigh to study her trousers intently. She had nice hair too. I won't start on describing that though. There are only so many hours in the day.

No no no no. It is I who looks a twat. I come here to make you lot look good. Enjoy it. I'm not scheduled to visit again until June 2012 and will probably be looking for a top. With sleeves maybe. I may even mention a colour.

madammecholet · 01/05/2011 16:21

tethers you could never look like a twat. Go and wash out your mouth...now.
