As you did so well with the black, jersey maxi that puddled, I've seen some trousers...

And you can stop with the collective groan. I come here but once a year. Last year you were all marvellous and talked me through a successful shopping trip. Granted I only shopped for around 7 panic-filled minutes but I bought a dress. We all did very well.

Anyway, it's that time of year again. I've taken to noticing what those around me are wearing. It's when the sun comes out I think. People are so much more visible. So, I've seen some trousers. In the manner of a style and beauty thread a la me, the description will be dubious.

Do you remember culottes? I do. In the same sort of way I remember Top Cat and Knightmare. I grew up in the 80s you see. Anyway, they're not culottes in any way, shape or form but something about them is reminiscent of them. They're fairly loose fitting. If you caught the wearer in a gentle breeze and your glance was only cursory, I suspect you might be forgiven for thinking 'skirt'. Not so. They are definitely trousers. I've seen two people wearing them. In two different towns. This is how I know they're out there somewhere, possibly somewhere obvious. Right, dubious description, where was I...

They're blue. They have little flowers on them. They're wide-legged. I'd guess at cotton but as I'm not in the business of guessing materials, natural, synthetic or otherwise, there's a fair to middling chance they're not cotton. They might be polyester mix or hemp or sack or some other fabric that I neither know nor care about. Anyway, I know fabric in the same way I know fashion in general. Namely, not at all.

So blue, wide-legged, floral, loose, sort of swishy, worn by women in Costa and women at street parties.

Have you seen this woman? Did you notice her trousers? I have high hopes.

I was at a bar full of young stylish people today and I saw at least two pairs of floral palatial pants.

And Primark is great if you can take the heat. Try it on a Monday Morning.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 20:38

A bank holiday Monday morning?

WillieWaggledagger · 01/05/2011 20:42

my mother works near chapelfield mall. I once asked her to nip into house of fraser for me and the receptionists at her work nearly had to send in a search party after her

i'm no help on the palazzo pants, btw (sorry). maiasaurus seems to be doing sterling work

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 20:46

Aah House Of Fraser. Home of the £15 tin opener. Strange place. Especially enjoy the decision to force you to exit the carpark through the damn place. There's always that moment where you step off the escalator and can't see the way out. I have to take deep breaths and rotate slowly until I glimpse the bright, glittery flash of the Disney Store in the distance.

These aren't the ones you like but they're rather lovely.

topshop

Fleecy · 01/05/2011 20:50

Sorry to hijack SoH and best of luck with the search. You've made me want some now. Gah!

But maiasaurus we are having a Norwich meet-up soon if you'd be interested?

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 20:54

Oh those topshop ones are rather lovely aren't they? Good spot Primark Lover. I might go into some shops. Might mind you. Equally I might dig over the veggies and eat gingerbread.

Fleecy, bugger off with your meet that I can't make. I miss Norwich.

madammecholet · 01/05/2011 21:02

I have several pairs of embroidered trousers (some with tiny mirrors on them, oh yes)

Maiasaurus · 01/05/2011 21:03

Thanks, fleecy. I think I am on a list somewhere under my previous name. Can't make the evening one. When is the next day-time meet (with cake)?

SoH, you have to go to Primark first thing on a Tuesday because they have their biggest weekly delivery on Monday evening.

Fleecy · 01/05/2011 21:07

Ah but you will! Yes you will - because you will pass your test with flying colours this summer Smile

maia No daytime meet arranged as yet - evening one next week but a tea and cake one is still to be arranged. There's a thread in meet-ups if you want to keep an eye on it?

mosschops30 · 01/05/2011 21:29

Sorry to hijack but would any of you lovely lot come and have a look at my thread re trousers and dress, cos you seem to be doing a fine job on here and i need some help
Tia Smile

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 21:34

Oh me me me. I'll come and help.

Hang on. I know nothing. I'll come though.

Nowt wrong with my mirrored trousers btw. They're v bright.

Is inside knowledge of Primark a punishment for something, I wonder?

Grin

I have bought several things in HITC over the years. People always comment on them, in a good way.

When I say where things are from, they do this - Shock Hmm Shock Grin

Particularly good for summer dresses IME, but you really have to wade through some crap unusual stuff.

FrameyMcFrame · 01/05/2011 22:14

Incidentally there are wide legged LINEN trousers for £9 in Primark at the moment. They're in black, grey, cornflower and white and the cut is quite nice. You'd pay £45 for them in Monsoon. :)

FrameyMcFrame · 01/05/2011 22:15

If you can fight your way through the thronging masses of blank eyed replicants.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 22:30

Are you Mrs Primark? Do you work on commision? I need to take up alcohol if I'm heading into Primark. They opened one in our local town a few weeks ago and there were queues round the block. They were handing out sweets to the people waiting in case they keeled over. Surely it's the same as every other Primark. Isn't that the point with a chain? Weird people.

I may brave it. We'll see. I like Monsoon. Good hats.

OP posts:
FrameyMcFrame · 01/05/2011 22:56

I'd love to shop in Monsoon et al but unfortunately finances dictate that I must love Primark. If you can resist the urge to run away after standidng in the queue for 10 minutes it's fine.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 01/05/2011 23:04

" chiffony in a way that implies your Mum picked them for your first secondary school disco thinking you looked like a 'young lady' when in fact you look like what you are. Somebody your Mum dressed."

SoH, you have just opened up an old and gaping wound. Sad I was the only girl at my secondary school 'prom' (prom! ha! not quite) in trousers (they billowed, they were Indian-print chiffon) and not a proper, foxy dress like everyone else.

Peversely, I would rather like those Indian chiffon trousers back again now.

Um, I liked the River Island ones best, nice 40's vibe about them.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 23:15

Reshape lovey, I am the voice of experience. I was that child at school. We were comrades in arms.

SOH are playing at the RAH btw. Have you seen? Next April. Am going with another MNer. Fancy it?

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 01/05/2011 23:22

Definitely HITC - they often have a large sale box at the back, which I like to rummage through. I got one of my favourite dresses there. You do have to give everything a good wash before you wear it though or you'll attract a pack of sniffer dogs.

KurriKurri · 01/05/2011 23:23

Oh just remembered I also saw some trousers very like that in Tesco several different patterns/colours.

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2011 23:37

Stop it. I've moved. HITC is so far away and I do so love it. They have some great grandad shirts too. I have a striped purple one made of hemp. I was in The Range t'other day Kurri. Couldn't believe the Sainsbo's is finally finished. I went in and bought a cake in celebration.

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 02/05/2011 09:53

I had a nightmare about Primark last night. Somebody go for me. Floral, wide-legged. Please. You can't make me go in there.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 02/05/2011 10:42

Yes it's finished at last, and quite snazzy Grin, but the parking is bizarre, and you have to drive out and all the way round to get to the Range.

(Oh - presumably you know that since you were there Blush)

I'll brave Primark for you next time I'm in the city. (I tried on a pair of the linen trousers in there the other day - made my arse look the size of Australia)

ReshapeWhileDamp · 02/05/2011 13:04

Showy - yes! Yes I would love to see SOH at the Albert Hall. Fabbo. Have you got tickets yet? Is it all genteelly seated or will there be folky moshing?
