As you did so well with the black, jersey maxi that puddled, I've seen some trousers...

And you can stop with the collective groan. I come here but once a year. Last year you were all marvellous and talked me through a successful shopping trip. Granted I only shopped for around 7 panic-filled minutes but I bought a dress. We all did very well.

Anyway, it's that time of year again. I've taken to noticing what those around me are wearing. It's when the sun comes out I think. People are so much more visible. So, I've seen some trousers. In the manner of a style and beauty thread a la me, the description will be dubious.

Do you remember culottes? I do. In the same sort of way I remember Top Cat and Knightmare. I grew up in the 80s you see. Anyway, they're not culottes in any way, shape or form but something about them is reminiscent of them. They're fairly loose fitting. If you caught the wearer in a gentle breeze and your glance was only cursory, I suspect you might be forgiven for thinking 'skirt'. Not so. They are definitely trousers. I've seen two people wearing them. In two different towns. This is how I know they're out there somewhere, possibly somewhere obvious. Right, dubious description, where was I...

They're blue. They have little flowers on them. They're wide-legged. I'd guess at cotton but as I'm not in the business of guessing materials, natural, synthetic or otherwise, there's a fair to middling chance they're not cotton. They might be polyester mix or hemp or sack or some other fabric that I neither know nor care about. Anyway, I know fabric in the same way I know fashion in general. Namely, not at all.

So blue, wide-legged, floral, loose, sort of swishy, worn by women in Costa and women at street parties.

Have you seen this woman? Did you notice her trousers? I have high hopes.

Just waiting for payday and then I will be on the website pronto.

Will PM you in a wee while. Sitting yes. Genteel. Perhaps not.

have just PM'd you! Grin

TethersEnd · 02/05/2011 14:34

Was it these ones?

LetUsPrey · 02/05/2011 15:41

Any idea on the leg length of the Tesco ones? I need a 33" inside leg. Would imagine that too short palazzo pants would not be terribly flattering.

HITC sounds a bit like Afleck's Palace in Manchester. I think that's what it was called. Used to go with my younger sister when she was a college student. No idea if it's still there. Seem to have a vague recollection of it burning down.

DirtyBit · 02/05/2011 16:51

Could it have been these?
I haven't clicked through all the links coz I cba :)

ShowOfHands · 02/05/2011 18:49

The flowers are much smaller than in a lot of these links. The blue is one block of colour. On this plain background there are fairly small flowers evenly spaced but quite far apart.

Like this in terms of pattern. Not colour or type of flower or anything but they are small flowers and they are not linked together with vines or swirls or anything.

I do really appreciate this. If all else fails, I might get the RI ones.

Did some-one say a puddling maxi Wink TB here SOH Smile

Unfortunately have seen no trousers that meet your brief though but interested in what you're going to wear with them.

And I never mocked your fashion sense - harrumph!

Tillyscoutsmum · 02/05/2011 22:03

Welcome back SOH Smile

Avoid shops completely and get these ?

ShowOfHands · 03/05/2011 09:42

Tils, is it wrong that I like them? I don't even have to stand up, let alone go in a shop. That's my kind of idle shopping.

TB, lovely to see you. You didn't mock? Then I roundly judge you. You're supposed to mock. What would I wear with them? Other clothes. You know, knickers, bra, top, that sort of thing. Shoes occasionally.

I have just started a palazzo pants thread. You are so on trend.

KnottyLocks · 03/05/2011 11:10

The River Island ones are lovely - I have a pair. Very swishy.

Also have these which I've had compliments about. Obviously weren't looking at my rear view. Grin

ShowOfHands · 03/05/2011 11:37

On trend? I haven't been on trend since 1986 and my first day at school. I rocked my grey kilt.

In the absence of anybody actually braving Primak for me, I'm tempted by the RI ones.

I think I need to get out more - I REMEMBER your puddling black dress thread from last year.... Grin.

I would look like a walrus in palazzo pants.

KnottyLocks · 03/05/2011 11:50

Now the question is, what will you wear with them?

ShowOfHands · 03/05/2011 11:54

Is clothes not the right answer? Whatever's clean? I have a nice tailored white shirt. That probably. And some form of footwear.

The fact that they seem fashionable is putting me off a bit. Grin Not my style.

NotWaving, it's one of those things you try and block out but the memory's always there. It's the horrific juxtaposition of me and style and beauty.

OhCobblers · 03/05/2011 11:54

SOH sorry to be lacking with palazzo pants advice (but watching this thread for ideas!) but could you put me out of my misery and tell me where you got your maxi dress in the end? Grin

ShowOfHands · 03/05/2011 11:56

You mean you can't be bothered to trawl the archives, find the thread and read to the end?

H&M. Grin First shop I went in. £12.99 iirc. I wear it all the time.

OP posts:
OhCobblers · 03/05/2011 11:57

thank you! i do remember your thread from last year and read most of it but didn't have it on my watch list.
will NOT make the same mistake with this thread!! Grin

notwavingjustironing · 03/05/2011 11:59

You see, in my mind, you are this floaty serene person who wouldn't need the advice of random truckers experts to purchase your summer wardrobe. Wink

FrameyMcFrame · 03/05/2011 12:05

Plain black t shirt and some wedges would work well. with a cross body bag

ShowOfHands · 03/05/2011 12:14

A cross body bag? With a corpse in it? I'd be cross too. And wedges? They're a food stuff. If they're not a food stuff, they sound a bit like heels. I don't do heels.

I don't purchase a summer wardrobe. I buy one item of clothing a year (but I have to ask on here what it is I'm looking for or I don't know which shop to go to) and otherwise I make clothes out of fabric remnants (my Mum's a seamstress and I steal her remnants regularly). I'm a bit of a mess I suspect. But a happy one.

The puddling dress thread. I assumed it would be gone by now, but it's not. I was clueless then too having scanned it.

FrameyMcFrame · 03/05/2011 12:51

From the pudding dress thread

'Chapelfield shopping centre is one of those places where beautiful young things and emos sprawl like dead bumblebees across the shiny lino, looking effortlessly chic and unencumbered by pushchairs and bags of raisins and a ready arsenal of nursery rhymes.'

Love it, hilarious!!!

KnottyLocks · 03/05/2011 12:58

I've just read the puddling dress thread: genius. Grin

Did you ever get a racer back bra?

ShowOfHands · 03/05/2011 13:04

No, I got a twisty doodah whatsit which adapts my normal bras.

I speak only the truth about Chapelfield.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 03/05/2011 13:22

A twisty doodah whatsit? I think I saw one of those on Embarrasing Bodies.
