Kate's wedding dress

Was wondering if anyone would like to join me in a chat about Kate's dress. Most people seem to think she'll be walking down the aisle in something silky and slinky but I don't think this would be appropriate for the abbey, I was thinking there might be quite a bit of lace involved.

I'm with the long and slinky brigade :)

But also something very classic, and I dont' think we'll see a meringue within 50 ft of the Abbey.

rockinhippy · 14/04/2011 14:28

I think from photos etc she has a bit of a taste for retro inspired slinky styles - she's meant to be a VB fan, & her stuff has a "Holly Golightly" feel to a lot of it - though VB not doing the dress of course - isn't it meant to be a McQueen??

in which case I'm guessing nothing too traditional, but something with a bit of vintage hollywood glamour to it - like a long floor legth satin or lace column dress, cap or grown on sleeves, slashed or high scoop neck, maybe sweetheart, but think more likely something higher

& then with a huge typically McQueen layered ruffled tulle train, attached only at the side & back waist & allowing front of column dress to show, whilst the train swings to the back only & goes on for miles - miles in typically westminster abbey style

t:)

High neck, lace, long sleeves, hair up. I am more interested in what Carole Middleton will be wearing.

dionysia · 14/04/2011 14:41

i like the lacy/ribbon waist dress...seems a bit too lacy for KM - something a teeny bit less frou-frou to suit such a seemingly no-nonsense woman.

queen elizabeths dress could provide a sort of model, though i believe she'd go less rather than more in terms of skirt size.

NonnoMum · 14/04/2011 14:56

My predictions... NOT white (with a nod to having lived together) and deffo sleeves.

Not sure what colour instead though - maybe something a bit goldy or "champagne".

Can't wait though...

And Pippa in pink??

LadyMacnet · 14/04/2011 15:16

I think she'll have 3/4 or long sleeves - def not strapless in The Abbey and no cleavage. Very simple straight up and down with some lace going on somewhere and a long, very elegant train. I can't begin to think what her veil will look like though, especially if she's having flowers in her hair.

minipie · 14/04/2011 15:25

Long sleeves definitely, and hair up.

A-line, fairly large skirt (anything slim and slinky would be lost in the abbey) but not a mega meringue.

Grace Kelly/Princess Margaret style like Insomnia says

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 14/04/2011 15:30

I'd forgotten how utterly hideous Diana's dress was until I clicked on one of the links in this thread. Those sleeves. As my DB at the time said, "a ginormous creased tent"

Psalmead · 14/04/2011 15:48

Damnit.

I have no interest in the royals. I have no interest in dresses. So why am I so interested in this thread?

I am actually rooting for the dress I found to be similar to KM's.

drivingmissdaisy · 14/04/2011 15:52

Psalmead it's because every girl loves to talk about wedding dresses.Smile

I like the dress Harry linked to - it was beautiful and elegant - though with uncovered chest I am not sure they would go for that..?

I still like it and at under £200 I think its a bargin

KeepCalmAndCurryOn · 14/04/2011 15:58

Not full length. Betcha.

alypaly · 14/04/2011 16:33

i think it will be super slim drop waisted and sloping to one side with a really big simple train at the back. I think the top part will be quite ornate with teeny pearl beads and sparkly bits.
also minimal headress with small tiara and curled hair. i reckon bridesmaids will be in pink.

alypaly · 14/04/2011 16:33

also i reckon it will be strapless to emphasise her enviable figure

dionysia · 14/04/2011 16:34

cavemu i think you my be very close - though surely McQueen won't o something quite that normal ?

Onky · 14/04/2011 16:46

Strapless would be really naff.

Perhaps she'll embrace pleats and go for something Greek, like her groom's family? Wink Though not sure about the single shoulder thing.

here

CaveMum · 14/04/2011 16:53

The latest I heard is that they've ordered 3 dresses from 3 different designers, in case the details of one are leaked.

Insomnia11 · 14/04/2011 17:11

I love looking at wedding dresses, even though I got married 7 years ago. I think "What would I choose now?"

And even though I was looking at dresses online even before we were engaged, in the end I tried two on that were 70% off in Monsoon and bought the second, just thinking "Might as well, and if I get something else then I won't have wasted much money on this" - and I ended up wearing that one, after having it adjusted by a tailor. Got my shoes, veil and tiara off eBay. I was a bargain bucket bride! My bridemaids' dresses from Coast cost more.

It was a bit like this:

www.monsoon.co.uk/bridal-dresses/garda-dress/invt/85310341/&bklist=icat,5,shop,women,dresses,bridaldresses

but more fitted in the middle.

I think if I was getting married now I'd go for something more Princess Grace ish, a bit like this

www.towedding.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/long-sleeve-wedding-dress.jpg

But then it was quite a warm day in June and all that lace may have been a bit itchy. That could be a good Kate dress actually.

dionysia · 14/04/2011 17:16

this

dionysia · 14/04/2011 17:17

versus this

you mean.

ClancyCrew · 14/04/2011 17:17

no way bare shoulders in a cathedral, specially if being married by a bloke who wont even accept women priests

ValiumBandwitch · 14/04/2011 17:19

she wouldn't want that bandeau style anyway, has been done to death. I look forward to a new wave of wedding dresses!

NigellaTufnel · 14/04/2011 17:23

Her dress will just be a white long version of her engagement dress. Betcha!

fridascruffs · 14/04/2011 17:29

She should go the whole hog and get this one:
