Kate's wedding dress

Was wondering if anyone would like to join me in a chat about Kate's dress. Most people seem to think she'll be walking down the aisle in something silky and slinky but I don't think this would be appropriate for the abbey, I was thinking there might be quite a bit of lace involved.

I would love if she wore something with colour as opposed to white or ivory. It would start a new trend for brides. I would love if she declined the tiara and wore natural flowers in her hair, I'm sure whatever she wears she will look beautiful

AbsDuCroissant · 15/04/2011 15:51

I am hoping she's going to wear something with sleeves as I'm sick to the back teeth of all these fecking strapless dresses. They really do NOT suit everyone.

My predictions - slim fitted, demure, fabulous, good detailing, huge train, possibly mermaid shaped. I don't see her going for a big meringue

I wish I had access to all the jewellery she has though - Imagine being let into the Royal vaults to pick out some pieces

corygal · 15/04/2011 16:31

I think she might produce one small but clever thing - ie wear something that is less boring than one would expect. Not nec the dress - she is keen on headgear and shoes, as it happens. I predict we'll see three outfits - bridal, going away, plus a peek at the party one.

Wearing McQueen would be a very shrewd move. I hope she does - if not, it's back to those TryHard Sloane designers for Mother of the Bride. But she's using them For the Bride.

Kate's natural dress sense is Looking Great at 60. Everything screams social aspiration and looking sexy but not frightening the horses - or rich people. I wonder where she will go sartorially now she no longer has to get in with the toffs.

MrsFruitcake · 15/04/2011 18:11

Slightly off topic but I'm sure I saw Kate today travelling towards Richmond with a full police escort, in her Bentley complete with outriders. DD was beside herself at seeing the 'new Princess'. We were going the other way and I knew as soon as I saw the motorbikes it would a royal.

I was a bit excited, but then I am a bit sad like that. Grin

mamatomany · 15/04/2011 18:14

I was in Richmond yesterday am not happy i missed her :( we could have done with cheering up after our trip to the dentist.

carriedababi · 15/04/2011 18:30

will she wear a tiara or flowers in her hair?

hair up or down?

what do you think?

up with tiara i think

diddl · 15/04/2011 18:36

Has she ever worn her hair up?

I can´t help thinking up with tiara, but if she´s not used to it, I don´t think that the wedding is the time to start.

carocaro · 15/04/2011 19:00

She can't go too slinky, or else all the men will be looking at her bottom, she needs some fullness not not poofyness; do you think the Queen has to approve the dress beforehand?

I vote for hair down, she's got lovely hair shame to pin it all up and tuck it away.

Oh and mermaid train makes me want to vom. Total tack. Ug.

Lace covered, like Grace Kelly's wedding dress, very elegant.

carocaro · 15/04/2011 19:01

When else do you wear a tiara unless your wedding? Unless you are about to be a princess/queen? Why not start at your wedding?

carocaro · 15/04/2011 19:01

diddl · 15/04/2011 19:06

I meant not to have hair up for wedding if you´re not used to it.

I think she wants flowers as a "symbol" of her being a commoner iyswim.

Perhaps she´ll have flowers to go up & a tiara to come down!

diddl · 15/04/2011 19:15

I´ve got that wrong, haven´t I, you walk down to aisle to get married?

carriedababi · 15/04/2011 19:23

actually she always has her hair down doesn't she

right bet it will be down then

what sort of flowers in the hair would work and not wilt too quickly?

lucyspangle · 15/04/2011 19:54

Whatever she wears will be accessorised with those oh so 90s skinny suede boots she wears all the time.

diddl · 15/04/2011 19:55

this is the only time I´ve seen her hair up.

TBH I think she looks much better with it down.

I had roses on an Alice band.

Lasted all day.

slovenlydotcom · 15/04/2011 19:59

Sarah Ferguson had flowers going in and tiara coming out iirc

NanaNina · 15/04/2011 20:17

I haven't read all these posts and clicked on the thread in error. I don't give a toss what she wears - as someone on the first page said - we can't afford it!! And then some nitwit said "We are not paying for it, Charles and the Queen are - and who in godsname does she think pays for the Civil List that the Queen and Charles have to manage on (only a few million a year) - us the taxpayers.

All this crap talk of how relaxed the couple look etc etc - of course they're relaxed, everything is being planned down to the last teaspoon and they haven't got to pay for a thing - we pick up the bill. I have nothing against them personally but the whole monarchy thing drives me mad, especially at at a time when so many people up and down this country are losing their jobs, their homes, people with serious illnesses are being put on Jobseekers of £40 per week............I'd better shut up as I could rant for ever!!

diddl · 15/04/2011 20:19

I think that you are right, slovenly

The flower thing was quite big- I guess it was the tiara with flowers hiding it.

sherbetpips · 15/04/2011 21:48

Dang this is difficult for her. I guess I was thinking lace, I personally would hate that but she needs to wear something modern but with a traditional twist, hence lace thoughts. Guessing a v light ivory, not s
As dark as diana's. Can't be twinkly too naff so back to lace. Otherwise seriously structured shantung silk but again, yak...

flyingspaghettimonster · 16/04/2011 02:30

I think 50's inspired, simple, heavy satin in a non-white shade, possibly platinum tinged... very sophisticated and smooth lines...

nooka · 16/04/2011 06:04

I have come to the conclusion from this thread that most wedding dresses are really not at all flattering. Although that Danish princess (Mary I think) was very beautiful and all those bows on that dress that Blu linked to were quite funky.

I notice KM seems to like asymmetrical hair pieces, so perhaps she'll wear something like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=blog.goldwo.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/26f3_royal-wedding-gown-takami-1.jpg&imgrefurl=blog.goldwo.com/royal-wedding-gowns-by-takami-bridal.html&usg=__cV21rfmGaqw0jDhCHWb4M94Yj-U=&h=542&w=400&sz=124&hl=en&start=59&sig2=sM1IKcTldYgTFzXw9cCopA&zoom=1&tbnid=ru_iJDwnYicTyM:&tbnh=176&tbnw=126&ei=gCKpTYbTN4rUtQPbnsj6DA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Droyal%2Bwedding%2Bdresses%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1306%26bih%3D867%26tbm%3Disch0%2C1266&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=312&vpy=335&dur=2267&hovh=261&hovw=193&tx=106&ty=172&oei=qCGpTe3IC4X0tgPf9oWiCQ&page=3&ndsp=26&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:59&biw=1306&bih=867" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

Hatterbox · 16/04/2011 09:32

no way bare shoulders in a cathedral, specially if being married by a bloke who wont even accept women priests

I know this is off topic, but I just want to respond to this comment, because they're being married by the Archbishop of Canterbury who is for women bishops. It is other members of the CofE General Synod who are against it.

I refer you to this article with the headline 'Archbishop of Canterbury urges General Synod not to stall women bishops plan'.

of Canterbury urges General Synod not to stall women bishops plan Daily Telegraph

mamatomany · 16/04/2011 10:01

She'll roast alive in heavy satin, it'll be silk and it'll look like a tea towel by the time she gets to the Abbey

Caoimhe · 16/04/2011 10:23

If you think heavy satin but simple - perhaps something similar to Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden's dress?

Princess Victoria

Victoria again

I think it is quite hard to get away with a tiara and long hair so I think she will have her hair up.

This dress is also very pretty (but perhaps a little low cut for a British Royal bride) Princess Marie of Denmark
