Kate's wedding dress

Was wondering if anyone would like to join me in a chat about Kate's dress. Most people seem to think she'll be walking down the aisle in something silky and slinky but I don't think this would be appropriate for the abbey, I was thinking there might be quite a bit of lace involved.

wendihouse and tulpe I'm with you. An irritating and vacuous woman who has never had a proper job, despite her expensive and good education.

Still will be interested in her dress and the others at the wedding!

BlingLoving · 14/04/2011 09:42

Kate is a relatively boring dresser, but does like to show her figure. I think she'll go relatively slinky and tailored but with a good train and some detail. I also think tht she will be careful about it not looking ridiculously OTT - by personality and current tone in this country. She is better at showing a little leg so it's a pity that would be inappropriate in a big white church royal wedding! Smile

I am also very interested to see what she puts the bridesmaids in. In some ways, that will allow her a little more flexibility I feel?

Oh Optimism that is lovely, there are so many lovely dresses out there. Here is Plum Sykes' dress by Alexander McQueen www.vogue.com/vogue-daily/article/vd-love-and-friendship-plum-sykes-on-alexander-mcqueen/ - Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen is rumored to be doing Kate's dress too.

I was going to ignore the random anti-royal comments on the basis that this is a S&B thread but polyhymnia - that is the most ridiculous thing. I have no idea what she is like, but I don't undrstand why we all think it's okay to accuse of her being things like vacuous or silly and a waste of space when we don't know her.

Until we all stop devouring newspapers that show photos of her or debating issues of her existence online, I refuse to believe she should be penalised for making choices to attempt to protect her privacy. It's easy to have a real job when you don't have to avoid the papparazzi or worry that if you come in a bit red eyed because you had a fight with your boyfriend the night before someone you work with might make a quick buck off you by selling the news to the News of the Word.

SugarSkyHigh · 14/04/2011 10:59

re. Plum: very nice but I;m not too sure about the candlewick bedspread style trimming Hmm

Optimism · 14/04/2011 11:07

Wendihouse, will get onto that right away - sure I must have her address somewhere...

I love it too - makes me want to get married again so I can wear it. Or do you think I could get away with it for a christening if I dressed it down a bit with the right accessories?!

polyhymnia · 14/04/2011 11:08

Bling, my opinions remain my opinions, but I do think you're right to say I should have had the restraint to keep them off the highly enjoyable S and B thread, when there are plenty of other threads on which to debate such matters.

ValiumBandwitch · 14/04/2011 11:09

i don't know about her toeing the line. camilla wanted her to wear her hair up with a tiara and that 'battle' has been lost! the hair will be down with flowers in it, how kate wants.
i think km can get her own way.

ValiumBandwitch · 14/04/2011 11:12

and I agree with posters who say this isn't about monarchy versus republicanism or decadence in the recession, I'm just GAGGING to see the dresses!

SugarSkyHigh · 14/04/2011 11:14

valium how do you know camilla wanted Kate to wear her hair up and the battle was lost?

BlingLoving · 14/04/2011 11:15

I know, I know. I love a wedding at any time. But a royal wedding, where there will be more glamour and NO PRIVACY (so none of this mini helicopters with secret cameras piloted remotely and being shot down by privately hired security guards you might get at a regular celeb's wedding). I am over the moon with excitement and plan to be glued to the TV the entire day.

There are people who think I'm crazy. I just think I like a little glitz! Grin

thomasbodley · 14/04/2011 11:28

I'm a staunch republican and a company director who is LIVID at the public cost and private cost (in funding the additional bank holiday) but I do love a pretty girl, a nice dress, and a wedding. I saw KM in the flesh once, sans her awful essex eyeliner, and she was gorgeous. It drives me nuts that she's managed to reach the age of 28 without a job that involves working for someone unrelated to her/her parents (even PW has managed that), but hey-ho.

So I'm happy to speculate on the dress.

I think she's going to go for something very chic and simple, perhaps like Caroline Bessett Kennedy's dress, but with a fancier veil or train.

ClaireDeLoon · 14/04/2011 11:31

I think most like the dress that optimism posted which is very lovely.

drivingmissdaisy · 14/04/2011 11:47

Surely though Kate will want to wear something that is unique to her and not like any previous celebrity's dress. I know if I was getting a couture dress made I would want it to look entirely different from anything that has gone before. Caroline Bessett Kennedy's dress was so beautiful because it was the first wedding dress in that style and led to a stream of imitations for years to come.

I suspect it will be quite dull and conservative - matronly satin with a fussy lace overlay. Without meaning to be too mean, Kate dresses like a middle-aged woman.

Having said that, Princess Anne has always had atrocious dress sense, and her wedding dress was quite chic.

dionysia · 14/04/2011 11:56

PW works for his grandma, surely?

dresswise - i think she can't go very low cut on the bodice, so something with at least a part sleeve or a shrug.

it has to be full length, but i can't imagine it being too slinky..

stabiliser15 · 14/04/2011 11:58

I really hope she does wear her hair down with flowers in it and no veil or tiara, but let's face it, it wouldnt be easy to pass up the opportunity to wear priceless jewels. I think she has lost a bit too much weight in the run up but think she is very pretty and dresses elegantly, if conservatively, and imagine the dress will follow that general theme. Which will probably be very appropriate for the occasion and given the family she is joining.

Bue · 14/04/2011 12:00

Optimism that dress is very beautiful and very royal. I could definitely see her in something simple and elegant like that. I don't see Kate as a vintage lace type at all.

I'm hoping for something 'directional' and fashion forward. Speaking of which, here is one of my fave royal wedding dresses (I know, can you believe I have such a thing?). Princess Mabel by Viktor and Rolf.

drivingmissdaisy · 14/04/2011 12:16

Have heard from someone who works at the silk mill which provides all the Royal silk and has done for all the previous wedding dresses, that they have not been asked to provide the silk for this dress. She said this is highly unusual and seems to think that the dress might not be made of silk. I can hardly imagine Kate going up the aisle in sateen though.

I like the fitted style but the cute little and big bows? - No

according to Daily Mail, she is wearing her hair down, all flowy and natural like!

wombatinwaiting · 14/04/2011 12:29

I really am getting excited too Blush and don't even live in the UK anymore... trying to find someone here to watch it with and ooh and ahh.

Bue - that's quite a dress and good on her for daring to do something a bit different.

I fear KM may have to settle for something less daring than she would like due to in-laws. Regardless, she will make a stunning bride although I do hope she does a teensy bit less on the eye-liner - apparently she is doing her own....

wombatinwaiting · 14/04/2011 12:31

The only down-side with hair down is that it can interfere with anything other than a very plain neckline so perhaps she will do something like optimism's choice, which is gorgeous by the way.
