Kate's wedding dress

drivingmissdaisy · 13/04/2011 15:42

Was wondering if anyone would like to join me in a chat about Kate's dress. Most people seem to think she'll be walking down the aisle in something silky and slinky but I don't think this would be appropriate for the abbey, I was thinking there might be quite a bit of lace involved.

Wombatinwaiting I'm sure there will be a thread on here during the ceremony for you to ooh and ahh with. Sadly I'll be stuck on the motorway somewhere and will have to make do with trying to visualize it through the radio Hmm

Oh well if it was in the Daily Mail, it must be true! I'm really looking forward to the wedding as in interesting historical event:maybe I am a bit sad to be planning on spending the day in front of the TV watching, but I do like a bit of British pageantry, fancy music etc. Even if it costs the country £20mill in security costs, not sure what our population is these days, but it is more than £20mill and I don't mind paying my £1 to see it!! I see where people are coming from on the fact that she has never had much of a job, but since she has been dating William, I don't think the poor girl could win. How could she have a job in an environment where she would be constantly wondering whether her less scrupulous colleagues would be emailing the DM with the contents of her lunch box everyday, the fact she had a row with Wills the night before etc. The Countess of Wessex was apparently constantly in trouble because she WAS working!

TheSmallClanger · 14/04/2011 12:41

I feel quite sorry for the Countess of Wessex. She was shafted by the press for trying to be normal. She is pretty much a recluse these days - has anyone ever seen her children?

wombatinwaiting · 14/04/2011 12:46

That's a good point clanger

Oh nooooo daisy - that's too unfair especially as you are the OP

localcrackpot · 14/04/2011 12:46

Not sure if I've got the hang of the link-thing, but I was always keen on Princess Mary of Denmark's wedding dress - realeza-realeza.blogspot.com/2009/02/crown-prince-frederik-of-denmark-mary.html

localcrackpot · 14/04/2011 12:46

meant to say that I like it more for the neckline and sleeves than the folds on the front.

drivingmissdaisy · 14/04/2011 12:48

Apparently, they have been reluctant to have pictures taken of Lady Louise as she has a squint.

HooverTheHamaBeads · 14/04/2011 12:49

I am really excited about it!!!

I imagine something off-shoulder, not fully off but skimming the edge of the shoulders with a slash-type neckline. deffo lace and a vintage feel. Veil might be antique embroidered.

I'd bet no cleavage, it won't be strapless and it might have a long-line over jacket thing with a more simple dress underneath.

Hatterbox · 14/04/2011 12:49

I could see her in something like this (but with longer sleeves) ...

Dress 1

or this...

Dress 2

She'll definitely have to cover up and she won't be able to go for something too modern, and I bet you anything, that the Queen will have had to approve the dress.

I'm really hoping that her sister has toned down her fake tan in time for the wedding, I don't think we want to see a maid of honour who is the same shade as an Oompa Loompa!

drivingmissdaisy · 14/04/2011 12:49

Ohh, Princess Mary is so beautiful, her maternity wardrobe was fab as well.

OP posts:
HooverTheHamaBeads · 14/04/2011 12:49

local that is just the neckline I was trying to describe!

HooverTheHamaBeads · 14/04/2011 12:51

Bolero overjacket is a good bet too.

drivingmissdaisy · 14/04/2011 12:52

Hatterbox, that's really interesting about the Queen approving the dress, is it true? I wonder did she approve Diana's.

wombatinwaiting · 14/04/2011 12:53

On a quick google news search, she only appears in local press web-sites. I did like her dress although a bit too much pre-wedding weight loss made the neckline go a bit funny....

TheSmallClanger · 14/04/2011 12:57

The Queen used to be quite stylish as a young woman. I suspect her "approval" is based on some sort of tick-list drawn up in the time of Queen Victoria.
I know she is not popular on here, but Camilla's wedding outfit was great. It actually suited her.

Psalmead · 14/04/2011 12:59

This could work

Or this with a belero

Psalmead · 14/04/2011 13:01

Argh!

This, even...

thomasbodley · 14/04/2011 13:03

I think Psalmead may have it. I can totally see KM wanting to show off that teeny waist, but this dress is nonetheless demure. It has much of Princess Grace of Monaco about it.

God, work at home Thursdays are destroying my billable hours

HipposGoBeserk · 14/04/2011 13:08

For reasons best known to himself, my dh proudly informed me that he had "downloaded the Royal Wedding app for your iPad Hippo!" this morning.

It has a dress predictor section.

Mellowfruitfulness · 14/04/2011 13:11

I think she should go as Dick Whittington, because she'd look good as a principal boy. And for her the streets of London really are paved with gold. (Er that would mean Prince William would have to go as Puss in Boots ...)

drivingmissdaisy · 14/04/2011 13:34

This is unusual yet there is still something a bit regal about it. It also manages to be both traditional and contemporary.

Ooh Hippos, an app!

Yes, Princess Mary was a proper royal bride. Camilla also looked fab - just right for her age and the circumstances. Sarah Armstrong-Jones also wore a <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=1.bp.blogspot.com/_mUtIwAPN4oc/S9h-27asbPI/AAAAAAAAAOA/baRQcZcT3qM/s1600/1saj2.jpg&imgrefurl=weddingandbaby.blogspot.com/2010/04/wedding-and-baby-talk-to-jasper-conran.html&usg=__51NBzNGUQOn9k23YiQItUZKCyF0=&h=475&w=397&sz=66&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=9t7WumB6jkDPXM:&tbnh=163&tbnw=135&ei=m-mmTeT4B8aY8QOnj7CnBg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsarah%2Barmstrong%2Bjones%2Bwedding%2Bdress%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1099%26bih%3D749%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=134&vpy=396&dur=103&hovh=246&hovw=205&tx=102&ty=165&oei=m-mmTeT4B8aY8QOnj7CnBg&page=1&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:12,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">stunning dress.

This is dreadful of me, but it's true that Lady Louise has something unfortunate going on <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=madhattery.royalroundup.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/2009-0516-louise3.jpg&imgrefurl=madhattery.royalroundup.com/%3Fm%3D200905&usg=__aGNrCIxtxMqVpGfomTfCM4x7wf8=&h=594&w=380&sz=49&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=tiV6UftxBO4y6M:&tbnh=154&tbnw=102&ei=-mmTYiAN4HX8gPe4PCnBg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dlady%2Blouise%2Bmad%2Bhattery%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1099%26bih%3D749%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=130&vpy=46&dur=229&hovh=281&hovw=179&tx=101&ty=125&oei=-mmTYiAN4HX8gPe4PCnBg&page=1&ndsp=27&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">with her eye. I don't think they shield her from cameras because of it, though. There are tons of pics of her if you google.

ClaireDeLoon · 14/04/2011 13:40

missdaisy the dress next to the one you linked to is like a pocahontas dressing up outfit. I loaded first and I thought you had gone mad!

Insomnia11 · 14/04/2011 14:16

She will go for something simple, classic and conservative, 1950s/early 1960s style probably with long satin sleeves, or long lace sleeves. Think of the dress she wore when they announced the engagement.

Something like an update version of Princess Margaret's or Princess Grace's.

There could be a nod to Diana though with the odd ruffle at the front, maye slightly puffed sleeves, though not as much as Diana's.
