Interestingly, (before the days of t'internet) when marooned somewhere provincial, Debenhams suddenly became a more attractive proposition. But generally, if faced with better options, I would rarely enter.

pagwatch · 27/01/2011 13:15

It is just awful.

We have a big one. It takes me back to the days when my mum used to do the guides jumble sale.

Just acres of tat and staff trying to figure out how to bludgeon themselves to death with the scanner.

franke · 27/01/2011 13:16

Well, I was going to say what a ghastly place it is. Then I remembered being stranded for an hour in the freezing cold in Scarborough about a year ago. The lady in Debs sorted me out with a v nice pair of suede gloves and some thermal insoles for my boots, which she also cut to right size for me.

Aitch · 27/01/2011 13:17

YES!!!
i cannot go in there, it is hideous. but i think ours is particularly bad, actually. you have to enter through the men's casual department, from what i understand. Hmm

lowercase · 27/01/2011 13:17

i dont mind it...
ours has dorothy perkins, oasis, school uniform, ELC, ted baker.

i think slit your wrists and die is a bit extreme!

Rannaldini · 27/01/2011 13:17

i can't believe you have posted that

some people on style and beauty have already in fact slit their wrists and died

how very insensitive of you

(also it does petite so my granny loves it
so nerrr)

piprabbit · 27/01/2011 13:18

It's OK if you know exactly what you want, where it is and that it is cheaper than other shops - then it is worth risking a dash-and-grab approach.

Our local one has a huge childrenswear dept. but only a few clothes dotted about among acres of empty space.

I am lucky - I has £70 to spend at Debenhams (vouchers), anyone got any suggestions as to the area I need to target?

FluffyMummy123 · 27/01/2011 13:19

piprabbit · 27/01/2011 13:20

TrillianAstra · 27/01/2011 13:21

lowercase · 27/01/2011 13:21

mylifewithstrangers · 27/01/2011 13:21

Rannaldini · 27/01/2011 13:21

i feel the same way about magic and sparkle

franke · 27/01/2011 13:22

Who is it aimed at?

Well, folk who think Gok Wan is the arbiter of all things stylish and beautiful obv.

midnightexpress · 27/01/2011 13:22

Ha ha. Aitch, I was in our local one this very morning in order to nab a free Clinique mascara. Wouldn't normally set foot in it, for all the reasons already mentioned, but do you know they have a rather good cosmetics hall. Though when I say 'hall' it is more like an air-raid bunker than an airy expanse of white and twinkly chandeliers, admittedly. But all sorts of brands I wouldn't have expected to see there.

piprabbit · 27/01/2011 13:23

As far as I can see the vouchers have to be spent in story but they are part of a 'shopping experience', so I get to have a beauty consultation, a personal shopper and a cup of tea as well as spend my money.

Am thinking of just spending the money TBH.

MoreFruitLoopthanFruitShoot · 27/01/2011 13:23

So diet cock.

To swallow, or not to swallow??

Bertina · 27/01/2011 13:24

They are good for bras if you have big norks - good selection, no idea what they're like for measuring.

FoundWanting · 27/01/2011 13:24

Diet cock?

I knew it was DH's fault I'm fat.

I'm going to leave him.

lowercase · 27/01/2011 13:24

e bay it?
vouchers go for almost face value ime.

piprabbit · 27/01/2011 13:24

If you are't going to swallow - you might as well have full-fat.

FluffyMummy123 · 27/01/2011 13:26

OH yes the clinique free mascara thing is good
annoyingly had just chucked all crappy msacaras so had to BUY one in poudnland
