Would a camel cape be entirely wise? Or a pair of houlihans a bit too avid?? Who cares!

Hi EIE - oh yes, the 80's - I loved my puffball skirts!!!

That sounds really fun. 50's would be good.

LetThemEatCake · 24/07/2010 23:20

hi everyone

laughed out loud at the title - nice one yummy

I've got Buckley's of remembering everything I've read, much less of responding to it all so...

rufus your outfit sounded fabulous. Plum am so glad you got the good comments, well deserved and nice that they were passed on to you. My dc had boiled eggs for brekkie yest and I thought of you and your egg yolk dress when they got to the 'treasure' inside

Tracey hope Bea had a lovely b'day, how was dinner with the iLs? Zembo hope the b'day party goes well tomorrow, you are such a domestic goddess!! and stylish, gorgeous and lovely to boot

yummy what was that game with the hula hoops again?? we have bouncy castle for next week but want a couple of games too - treasure hunt, pass the parcel and ...??? your one sounded good!

RG that is very sad. Hope your dh not too washed out after getting an earful, How are you doing anyway?

MM your sil sounds like a piece of work but I love your dh's response!! What did you wear?? well, I was obv channelling you yest as I also had red lentils boil over onto freshly cleaned stove top but, never one to be outdone, I then dropped the whole saucepan, lentils, veg and all, onto the freshly cleaned floor. I then had make a new dinner for the dc from scratch, which meant they went to bed later, which meant that we left to go to Jools Holland later (attachment parenting gone mad emoticon - I don't go out until my dc are asleep and don't let anyone but me or dh put them to bed, long-winded bedtime and all ) So anyway, we got there about 9 and it had started at about 7.30, I think. Was good though, had fun checking out what people were wearing and being mortified by their complete lack of self-consciousness in dancing (very odd - I am more than happy to make an idiot of myself in public for purposes of entertaining the children, but am very uptight about things like dancing, or standing ovations, or doing the "4" arm thing when someone hits a four at the cricket.... go figure)

Anyway, since I was already channelling MM I wore cropped black harem jumpsuit with jewelled sandals and 'statement' necklace

Regrets - just that I came to this country in order to spend time in France and Italy and become fluent in languages that I was already reasonably competent in. Now I'm about to go home and my French and Italian ability is virtually non-existent.

I also kind of regret ever leaving Australia, but if I hadn't I wouldn't have met dh, so it's a tricky one

Also - wish I had made more of my time at uni. Either done a different degree or immersed myself more fully in the one I did. 6 years is a long time to be half-arsed about something.

eie step away from the eyeshadow. Not needed on you.

BTW, meet-up ladies, you know how we were going to give esher honest opinions on her makeup (ie whetehr too much) I would also value honest opinion on mine - ie whether too little. Thank you.

blossoming · 25/07/2010 06:11

Was esher at the meet up? And what was the conclusion? I'm hopeless at giving straight answers to those type of questions..although I love the fact that my colours woman made a comment about my hair which led me to the fringe and eventually to this shorter cut.

Up early, baby teething. I find it incredible that in the last two weeks she has started: self-feeding, sitting up, crawling and clapping. Surely this is the cutest phase? Dc2 didn't develop to this stage even though she was almost 4 and I must have forgotten how it was with dc1. Speaking of Dc1, how typical is it that he sleeps past 6 today and it's the baby who's up?

Friends coming for lunch and I'm cooking rib of beef for the first time. I also need to make a chocolate tart. Like now, or it won't set.

What to wear though? Looking cold and wet again. It feels like Autumn already here. Can you believe I've only worn the Splendid dress once?

Have a good day everyone. We're party mad here!

Zembo · 25/07/2010 06:13

Well ladies, I've been up since 4.15am finishing the cake Not sure if that makes me a domestic goddess or just bonkers ..and still got a few bits to do.

I got my figleaves order yesterday, haven't had time to look at it yet.

Cakey at lentil episode. Glad you enjoyed your night out. I have to thank you (again) - this time for my DD's birthday cake. It's a butterfly and flower themed party and I've made the bunch of flowers from one of the books you recommend - relatively easy and looks good. Thanks! The only game we have planned is 'plant the butterfly on the flower' but we're also decorating plant pots, having flower and butterfly tattoos done , planting marigolds and have a sunflower shaped pinata to bash at the end.
Sorry for self absorbant post. Have a good day everyone and enjoy your BBQ Tracey

traceybath · 25/07/2010 07:57

Bloss & Zembo - wow you girls were up early.

I was also meant to be up early as still have bits to do but old friend dropped in unexpectedly yesterday and sat drinking rose with her till pretty late so not feeling my most sparkly this morning.

But scones to make as have decided to do cream teas later [why emoticon?]

Have fun everyone. Bloss - let us know how the rib goes as I've often contemplated cooking one but never done it.

I've just done the light chocolate cake with bumble bea decorations - looks pretty but simple.

Zembo - 4.15am wins the prize! Will tell my DH that and he'll realise I'm not the only crazy lady when it comes to baking.

traceybath · 25/07/2010 08:16

OK - I need talking down.

Bea has taken a few steps but mil is determined to get her properly walking today and keeps saying 'ooh watch she's going to do it for me' - I will cry if that happens.

I am immensely irrational today - overdose of family this week methinks.

Just read that back and I sound bonkers.

Do you know I know the whole moldies thing was awful but I do wish sometimes there was somewhere we could talk which wasn't so visible to everyone.

FritziGreenEyes · 25/07/2010 08:41

zembo - Your party theme sounds great! Hope you get the chance to enjoy the party and won't fall asleep among the flowers and butterflies. at 4:15. Have a great day! I'm sure your DD will be thrilled.

tracey - You are not overreacting. Family overdose is more what it sounds like and your MIL would make me furious too. Sounds like you would really need some space right now. Can you keep MIL busy with other things like helping you in the kitchen? Sorry not a great idea. What does your DH say? Could he talk to her?

Our authors have a writing workshop next week which I have to "supervise" on Mon/Tue. That means I have to travel almost 6 hours on a train today and back on Tue. Don't know what to wear/pack. It is a seaside town where everyone will be in shorts, ugly Land's End type sandals and fleeces as it is not that warm anymore. It will be my last official authors' meeting in this job so it doesn't really matter what I wear but I want to feel good. Think I will just be overdressed as usual .

Have a great Sunday everyone!

blossoming · 25/07/2010 09:52

I didn't quite understand the last bit of your post traceyb. I feel for you re mil. I get so irrational when I just think about mine. Will they be gone soon? Glass of wine on the horizon?
Dh is in a mood today so I'm keeping out of his way. He insisted on prepping all the veg. Why? So he could indulge in his grumpiness even more?
I'm wearing the swing vest over sapphire lace trim vest again with my skinnies. I'm really proud of my arms and want to show them off! I haven't seen my friend since I lost the baby weight or had my colours done so it seems a waste to wear storm grey. Never mind.

Overdressed is best fritzi!

MarshaBrady · 25/07/2010 09:58

Blossoming that's so funny we have recently discovered chocolate tarts in this house (ds wanted to use a rolling pin and I googled to find a recipe with rolling pins and chocolate and now he loves smashing the biscuits).

Plum fabulous complimentary text, bet you looked ace!

TraceyB those words would irritate me to the moon and back.

Verity I also wanted to say thank you for your lovely words on the old thread.

Friday night at friend's house for drinks was good fun. Although I hugely regretted wearing my new white patent Blochs as they are flat. Next time I will be wearing heels for sure. It really bugged me!

So am going to find some new ones today.

DolceeBanana · 25/07/2010 10:45

Helloooo-

Quickie as DH has taken MIL and oldest DCs up to MILs sister in Broadway, so few hours to get ready for a christening this pm, oh and clean up...!

MIL was actually really helpful, and shock, horror, my Mother and Father turned up at party to help. And actually did. And smiled. And came back afterwards and were...nice!

This may be down to me taking bull by horns and phoning mother in a rational, grown up (eh, moi?)... way and stating that I am not basically going to get involved in sillyness any more, so put that in yer pipe and smoke it, lady! Seemed to have worked....I hold my breath.

Tracey - what do you mean about moldie? Explain please. Me being thick?.....

Glad Bea's birthday went well....get MIL chopping salad or something, or find that pile of ironing....or take boys out for a walk? You have handled it all rather well, and I always get a bit caged in feeling after several days of guests...I always leave massess of new magazines in MILs room with glasses, bottles of water, nice bath smellies in her bathroom. I think she secretly enjoys popping up to get a bit of peace!

Did Bea like the trike?

Our party went well, all exhausted and happy...even some parents dressed up as swashbucklers for the day so that was good!

DolceeBanana · 25/07/2010 10:49

Tracey - lets try and organise the meet up next week when Hells is back!

You'd laugh - only just realised that LA is Laura Ashley?...assumed you'd got your last cape in LA (Los Angeles)....! Doh....

LetThemEatCake · 25/07/2010 11:03

tracey - "glory -chasing grandparents" - one of my pet hates. Hope today goes okay. Hang in there.

Also befuddled re moldies - esher has mentioned before as well but no idea what it means??

hope all the parties, gatherings etc go well today

hf128219 · 25/07/2010 11:05

Tracey My MIL comes to stay - I do all the cooking etc - and she doesn't even bother to play with dd.

She then gushes on and on My baby, my baby!'

DolceeBanana · 25/07/2010 11:30

Succinctly put Cakey! As ever! My pet hate too!

Right, need to shower and glam up for this pm - sun shining! Love to put on halter but its church, so no no ...

Have a fab pm everyone...

carciofi · 25/07/2010 11:32

Tracey, just grit your teeth!

Definitely overdress, Fritzi.

Googled Moldies and found this article.

I wore a cream silk J Crew camisole, cream Karen Millen cardigan and my old Seven Dojo jeans last night, all old but felt very comfortable.

LTEC, musical statues is another good party game.

carciofi · 25/07/2010 14:26

Blossoming, how old is your DD now? She sounds very cute.

blossoming · 25/07/2010 18:41

carciofi, she is 9 months. Just got her 8th tooth through which will explain the early rising this morning.

My lunch was nice but the Yorkshire didn't rise, very strange, I make them fine normally. I also love a glass of wine at lunchtime. It's my ultimate treat. I think I spied some left in the bottle too. For after shredding of course!
Btw tracey, I put the beef in for 30 mins at 220C, then with lid on for 5 HOURS(!!) on 120C. Works with any bone in joints I find, and I'm always up at 6. Really tasty.
Still loads of clearing up to do. Shall I pretend I'm busy with the kids and leave dh to get on with it?

mrsjuan · 25/07/2010 18:44

Evening all,
I am sneaking back in if you don't mind after a self imposed internet ban fizzled out somewhat last week.
I have only managed to skim a few pages to catch up but I can't believe I missed the news that Bunny is having twins!! I even missed the 54+ wall posts on facebook about it. Many congratulations

Tracey - happy birthday to Bea - hope you had a lovely day. My MIL is a similar nightmare when it comes to 'ownership' of DD - especially when it comes to sleep.."Oh, DD you're not tired are you - mean Mummy trying to get you to sleep, you play with Grandma" etc

I bought www.julesb.co.uk/womenswear-2/dresses-19/paul-smith-red-stripe-361307.htm?sale=Y&this in the sale yesterday thinking that it would be good for garden parties and regattas etc. then realised that I haven't been to either for years. (this is what made me think I'd better get back into being wise and avid!)

Hope you all had a great time at the meet up - maybe we should think about another one for Christmas time?

monkeysmama · 25/07/2010 19:38

Evening ladies

Cakey made me laugh - a similar red lentil incident and the jumpsuit. Glad you enjoyed Jools. We spent a few hours enjoying Greenwich earlier - stroll around the market, take away sushi by the river then a light shop. I got yet another jumpsuit from Bullfrogs. A grey/taupe one a bit like one of the asos ones I have but I wear them all the time.

The bbq yesterday went ok though I felt so out of place I ended up drinking too much and saying some things I shouldn't have but have wanted to for a long time. I wore the black Warehouse jumpsuit with my owl necklace and gold glads. It felt the right side of boring and meant sil couldn't say anything as I looked reasonably smart. Anyway, it's over and done with.

Bought dd some new shoes yesterday. They're so dear aren't they! I dress her in a lot of Scandi brands mixed with H&M, some Zara, smattering of Next and M&S but am obsessed with her having proper shoes and so many of them are simply foul. The pair we bought a few weeks ago were a pale pink colour which none of us liked and she buried in mud on day 2 of wearing them. Kickers always seem to fit her so well so she has a new silver pair with butterflies on and she is so happy with them. She saw a Lelli Kelly glittery gold pair and wouldn't let go of them. Girl after her mama's heart - sparkly, gold, Eurotrashy .

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 25/07/2010 20:10

blossom Am very jealous of iphone cover. J&J holiday skin is the best. Like the sound of sappire lace trimmed vest - where is that from? I love toned female arms - such a sexy part of the body.

carciofi hope you had a lovely dinner out with your DH - what did you wear?

tracey I am an ex-techy but in the end it came down to the fact the HTC desire does everything an iphone does but at half the cost.Sorry to hear about your competitive MIL, I hope you LO refused!

everything ohh I keep hearing about that festival on the radio it sounds totally fabulous and am really jealous you ar going.

zembo sorry but 4.15am qualifies as bonkers. Hope the party went well.

mrsjuan I think it's a lovely dress which you could dress down with espradrilles and a hat for just normal summer days if you don't do garden parties or regattas!

MM your outfit sounds lovely and did you find it catheritic(sp!) to get things off your chest? Yes shoes for children are eye-wateringly expensive for how long they last, I compromise but buying good quality proper shoes for winter but buying Tesco sandals for summer!

Moldies aren't worth reading about,honest.

Blooming marvellous had a closing down sale in Guildford with things from £35 to £3 I splurged a little and bought dress for wedding, 4 b/f tops, 3 pregnancy tops, skirt, jeans, waterfall cardigan and more, reckon I bought about £400 of stuff for £75. I bought a gorgeous flippy navy linen skirt and fitted t-shirt to wear today to ILs posh lunch do and then packed the WRONG TOP (took new b/f one instead) I am an idiot. I also picked up a navy sequin vest for 3 pounds from New Look sale its's from the tall section which means it goes over the bump and will wear it under new blue blazer for girls night out next week. Probably only last 2 wears before all the sequins fall off but for £3 I'll take that chance!

hf128219 · 25/07/2010 20:31

Libra I was in Blooming Marvellous in Guildford yesterday. I didn't realise it was a closing down sale - I just thought it looked very messy!

traceybath · 25/07/2010 20:31

Evening.

Golly where were you lot when the moldies thing kicked off? Briefly some old-timers started up a small board called moldies which was invite only and not viewable by anyone else. In theory so they could have private discussions that weren't able to be viewed by everyone.

Was extremely contentious as lots of people weren't invited and bitter bitter words were had.

But basically what I meant was that I could have done earlier with having a good old moan about various family related stuff but wouldn't on here where it could be read by anyone so instead bit my lip

However will divulge one thing that was a tad annoying. All in garden and I can hear ds1 and his cousin both crying (cousin a tiny bit older).

It turns out DS1 had snatched a toy off of cousin so male cousin had jumped on ds1 and kneed him in the stomach. This was then dealt with by cousin's mother and the outcome was it was pretty much my ds's fault for snatching . DH not very happy at all. Obviously DS shouldn't have snatched but I fear the reprisal was a little extreme.

Blimey - sorry just waffling on about me me me

MrsJ - lovely to see you back - I had wondered where you'd got to.

blossoming · 25/07/2010 20:38

libra, great shopping! When are you due? It seems ages since you confused me with your BFP!!
My vest is from the Jigsaw sale, still £18 but amazing colour. I need more sapphire in my life!!
How long will it take my belly to catch up? It's been months since I gave up sugar, it's flatter and with some definition. I'm shredding every day, but not sure I'm beach ready still. Will a vat of fake tan help?

Thanks for the clarification carciofi. What a to-do!

LetThemEatCake · 25/07/2010 21:03

very glad to see you back MrsJ!!!

still really missing vin Please come back.

MM glad you had a lovely evening. Dying to know what you said at BBQ Well done for getting through it. You would've looked gorgeous.

Sunday Times Style says jumpsuits have now moved from directional to mainstream!! do we have this thread to thank for that??

My owl necklace is broken Got caught in dd's hair!! Just one link, easy enough to fix

libra glad you scored some bargains.

ah, moldies. Thanks for casting light carci and tracey. Well, anyone who ever wants to moan to me in private about their inlaws or anything else is welcome to use the avid and wise yahoo address or FB!!

bloss am sure you look fabulouso. DD is only 9 months and get you, all shredded and gorgeous. It is a heavenly age, isn;t it? Baby L is divine at the mo. I am caught between enjoying every second and mourning the passing of his babyhood, esp as he is prob my last.

zembo hope party was fantastic!

carciofi outfit last night sounds lovely.

Just opened my cc statement and was slightly at how much it is. Need to be a bit more aware I think.

But ... am drooling over Joseph camel cape on Sunday Times Style today - a snip at £550 - and think that these shoes are cute.

On a slight downer ... holiday to Tuscany is cancelled. deposit lost. DH and work. Can't go into it as I am soooooo depressed about it and may cry.

Is it bad to say that I am beginning to hate Jamie O??
