Vape-Free in 2026

Hi - I am looking for others who are quitting vaping.

I have quit multiple times, for months at a time, but I always start again. My DH vapes and is not interested in quitting which is difficult as I always know there's a vape in the house. Although, on the bright side, I have learnt something new each time I have "quit" and now I hopefully know how to be successful.

I really want this time to be different and would love to find some people in a similar position for support and encouragement. Whether you have quit, are currently trying to quit, or just thinking about it. All welcome.

Today is my Day 1.

Are you using anything for Nicotine replacement like gum/lozenges etc? Vivid dreams are a known side effect of NRT, when I used the patches to quit smoking years ago I had actual night terrors out of the blue, it was awful.

Yes patches and gum. Oh god, I hope they don’t get worse as it was a really bad dream which I don’t usually get. It makes you wonder whether this is worth it 😂

Vapeaddict · 07/01/2026 21:07

Sorry I went AWOL- I can't do it 🫣 I think I tried to taper my nicotine down too quickly and that coupled with DH's lying around has meant I've completely failed. I'm going to try and get out tomorrow to buy appropriate liquids so I can taper sensibly and dig deep for some willpower. Will ask DH to keep it out of my sight too..

How's everyone else doing?

I remember the vivid dreams, absolutely wild when I first quit. They do settle down after a couple of weeks. I remember being absolutely exhausted as well! Couldn't keep my eyes open past 9 and had to nap in my lunch break.

The constipation thing resolved itself for me and actually it's stayed normal despite starting again. I used to rely on laxatives so this is a big deal!

I tried a lozenge once and it made me puke 😳 patches I always thought took the edge off- unless it was placebo. Agh so annoyed with myself for starting again.

We won’t kick you off the thread don’t worry 😂 get some more liquids tomorrow with a lower nic % and start from there. I stupidly had a cigarette yesterday after I decided that was better than vaping. I’m snowed in at the moment so I can’t get out to get anything which is a positive but I’ll run out of patches soon so I’m hoping the snow disappears. I’m eating soooo much it can’t be good for my waistline!

Vapeaddict · 07/01/2026 21:49

Ah thanks @blankcanvas3 I nearly didn't come back! I never really understood the shame around addiction before I experienced it.

Yep I've done the cigarette thing too 🙈 didn't hit the spot like a vape though weirdly?!

I jumped from 18mg to 6 pretty much, then down to 3 within a couple of days. I think I had about a week on each last time I gave up, it didn't feel as tough. DH wasn't vaping then though- I think that's going to be the hardest bit.

We're expecting snow tomorrow so need to get out and stock up before I'm stuck in too! Hope it clears for you so you can replenish the patches. Depending what flavour you vaped, could you grab some sugar free mints/sweets? Polos saved me in the early days.

blankcanvas3 · 08/01/2026 17:25

How are we all doing today? It’s day 8 for some of us!

Saltwatersoothe · 08/01/2026 17:38

I forgot about this thread but today is a real struggle! Day 8 for me but think it's the back to work boredom or maybe just that heading towards the weekend feeling 😬

Saltwatersoothe · 08/01/2026 17:46

@Vapeaddict I'd find it so hard if my husband had one in the house so I admire you trying anyway! I was like him a social vaper but it turned into every day then from morning to night etc. My husband hates it and my kids don't know so I always had to hide it anyway. Even still im just about chewing my arm off today.

NotrialNodeal · 08/01/2026 19:56

Hello everyone! Hope you're all okay! Thanks for asking @blankcanvas3 . Day 8 for me. If I'm honest I'm not finding it as hard as I thought it would be. That sounds like a brag and I don't mean it to! I keep expecting to have a breakdown (as have done in the past) but it's not arrived. There's still time I'm sure! The only difference is this time I'm using patches. I started smoking at age 12 and from age 18 I smoked 20 cigarettes a day. More if I was out drinking. Quit for each pregnancy and for 18 months postpartum. Gave up the fag's couple of years ago and replaced with vapes. I have told myself since I was about 20 that I wouldn't smoke into my 40's. Well I'm 40 and a half now. If I get something into my head I can't be persuaded otherwise; so I think this is helping. I just don't feel like I have the option to smoke or vape any more and I really think this is what's helping me not to struggle. Not sure I'm explaining myself very well 😅 but anyway I was also thinking in the past 6 months I've been aware of multiple deaths of young people. Think 30's and 40's. All cancer. Think colleagues, friends of friends type of things. I have three young kids and the idea of leaving them whilst they are so dependent upon me actually keeps me up at night! I owe it to them not to vape. So all in all I think these things are in my mind presently and are motivating me to never go back. I really hope we can all get though another day and another day after that. And if we don't then we don't feel discouraged to try again. Good evening all.

I think that’s a great way to think about it actually! Glad you’re so determined, I hope some of it will rub off on me! I think today has actually been much easier so long may that continue! We managed to get out and about today but I’m expecting for us to be snowed in again tomorrow so that’ll be another few days I won’t be able to just nip out and get one,

Blacksheepatnewyear · 08/01/2026 21:06

Failure day for me today! Very very stressed. Walked to the shop, a walk that normally takes me 10 mins took about 40. Then there was no bread or milk or anything really. No deliveries getting through because of snow. Tried to dig my car out of where id abandoned it on Sunday but got stuck. Gave up, went back to shop & bought a disposable vape 😭 Im such an idiot

I think you deserved the vape considering your car is still stuck! Where abouts are you if you don’t mind me asking?

Blacksheepatnewyear · 08/01/2026 21:17

Aberdeenshire in North Scotland. I think this is day 7 of snow but ive lost count. No other shops in walking distance so nothing I can do. Its only a disposable & if it gets me through the next few days i don't care. Im still determined to stop but these are exceptional circumstances.

applecharlotte · 08/01/2026 21:19

Day 8 today... and I failed! Could probably think of a couple of reasons... but just excuses really.

Blacksheepatnewyear · 08/01/2026 21:26

@applecharlotte you & me both! We can do this though! Just need to reset tomorrow 🤛

blankcanvas3 · 08/01/2026 21:47

Enjoy your vapes tonight and start again when they’ve finished!

Yeah exactly - don’t beat yourself up about it, just start again with a fresh start when you can xx

applecharlotte · 09/01/2026 06:34

Thanks all. I was fine for a week!! I think it's because I started cutting the 25mg patches in half the last couple of
days. Silly!! Slightly annoyed at myself but at least I had almost 8 days break...
well done to those who are still going.

Yes reset needed! Thanks for the motivation - I'm gonna stop again tomorrow when it's the weekend. Good luck to you my dear too!

BogusBargins · 09/01/2026 07:27

Just sending motivation to everyone! Reading as inspo, I’m a constant vaper and it’s currently hurting my chest to vape as I’ve had a cold yet I continue it’s actually sickening.

I gave up no problem 6 years ago by tapering for a whole year while trying to conceive then stupidly had some of my DH with a post partum wine! I didn’t even miss it.

I’m only on 6mg but It is absolutely a habit as I’m always reaching for it - aaarrrggghh!

I'm asthmatic, so I know it's a really stupid thing for me to do!

A lot of this resonates with me regarding reasons to quit. I am glad to hear it's going well for you! xx

Reading these messages have really helped! I was going to start (quitting!) again tomorrow but I have just binned my vape so not going to wait. Apart from the initial enjoyment of the first few puffs yesterday I'm not liking it today...onwards and upwards.
