Hi - I am looking for others who are quitting vaping.

I have quit multiple times, for months at a time, but I always start again. My DH vapes and is not interested in quitting which is difficult as I always know there's a vape in the house. Although, on the bright side, I have learnt something new each time I have "quit" and now I hopefully know how to be successful.

I really want this time to be different and would love to find some people in a similar position for support and encouragement. Whether you have quit, are currently trying to quit, or just thinking about it. All welcome.

Today is my Day 1.

Happy new year and well done to those who have quit already! I'm nearly at the end of my bottle of 6mg so will shift down to 3 next and hopefully pack in after that. I'm getting bored of it again which is a good start!

I noticed the nausea in the afternoon usually, although the initial rush first thing does turn my stomach a bit too. DH not quitting again @Noreeen but he can take it or leave it more than me- not at it all the time. I can imagine he'll be a social vaper rather than all the time. I'm jealous of his relative disinterest!

Hope Allen Carr helps you @Pennyplant19 I read it and whilst I did agree with almost everything he said, it wasn't the magic solution for me. I wondered about medication first time round- I really really struggled with the massive drop in my mood- but I'll see how I get on. Need to pick a quit date!

Nicotine withdrawal maybe?

I will join too. I’m one of those dickheads who has never even smoked but stupidly tried vaping on a night out, enjoyed it and got hooked. Been doing it three years now. The tough thing for me is that it has no obvious ill effects (dh buys them for me as he vapes too, it doesn’t smell, no obvious issues with my health). But every now and then I’ll get a dodgy feeling in my chest and think oh shit that’s my heart clogging up thanks to vaping. Or I’ll read a horror story online and wonder why on earth I’m risking it. I really want to get healthier in the new year. I do enjoy vaping especially with a drink and am definitely hooked now. So I think I’ll try tapering off with lower nicotine ( currently on 20ml fluid) and go from there. It’ll be hard though.

Welcome! I tapered off too - today is my first day without any vape at all. Finding it hard so far, the habit more than anything to be honest

I tried going down to 10 before and it felt really pointless. Just didn’t do anything. Maybe that’s what I need to get off it. 20ml does feel like a lot.

Saltwatersoothe · 01/01/2026 21:18

I'm also quitting and on day 1 so would be good to have others! I'm also a secret vaper away from my colleagues/ parents/kids etc, only do it around my husband and friends or just in private. I stopped smoking about 15 years ago then stupidly discovered vaping last year, went from vaping with friends on nights out to every day, also hiding in toilets to vape etc. I only use the disposable lost mary ones but I've binned them all and trying cold turkey, might try get some patches or gum if it's too hard though.

blankcanvas3 · 02/01/2026 11:21

Struggling today, it was the first thing I thought about when I woke up. I usually have a vape whilst I drink my first coffee. I’ve just grabbed some patches so fingers crossed they help

Blacksheepatnewyear · 02/01/2026 13:39

@blankcanvas3 you can do this! I struggled yesterday & today is better so keep going. Use whatever helps. Im keeping busy, that's helping me

Yes this is the hardest time for me too! Coffee and vape... delicious!

But... think of our lungs, health, better skin, reduced shame and fear gained from choosing NOT to vape. Honestly, patches are helping me so much.

it's usually this time (day 2/3) that I start to think... oh it's not that bad. I've had a break so a cheeky puff won't hurt... I'm trying to push through those thoughts!!

This is exactly me!! I had a dream last night that I got sacked for my secret toilet vaping at work. Ooh the shame!!

What patches are you all using?

would people recommend cold turkey or drop down in nicotine mg? I’m on 10mg now.

I need to quit. Started 3 years ago after a really difficult time and planned on doing it for 1 year. I just need to stop, it’s such a crap habit to have. I’m healthy in every other aspect of my life so people are always really surprised when they see me vaping.

I’ve just picked up some Nicorette ones, I’ll let you know how I get on. I’ve only just put it on but hopefully I’ll see if they’re any good by tomorrow

I have bought the Nicorette 20mg ones to start with and the Asda 14mg ones for week 2. I think 20mg might be too strong as, although I don't have cravings, am feeling a bit sick.

applecharlotte · 02/01/2026 15:52

I was thinking of giving myself a reward for every month of staying vape free in 2026 - as a little motivation.
e.g on the 1st February booking a massage.

Do others find those future little rewards helpful?

strange25 · 02/01/2026 15:58

I absolutley need to quit, I’m like someone above, never ever smoked but bought a disposable before they were banned after some life stress and got hooked! Working from home doesn’t help because I pick it up all the time. In fact even if I wake up in the night I’ll have a puff 😂 I think it’s more about having something in my hand. Maybe I’ll join.. I’m going to look for some patches online now!

I don’t need an excuse for a treat 😂 Good idea! I think I’ll treat myself to some new shoes if I get to 1st of Feb vape free

namechangeformeeee · 02/01/2026 16:00

Can I join please? I’ve actually been on nicotine free liquid for about a month now as a precursor to giving up but still can’t seem to put down the vape - no idea why as I surely can’t be physically addicted to it anymore?!

Yeah the 20mg juice is strong for me.

my plan is:

  • delay starting to vape in the morning. Once I start, that’s it for the day. Yet I can go for hours without (I’m a runner and go for long runs without it)
  • i need to not take mine with me everywhere. So nipping to the shops etc, just need to leave it home
  • ban myself from vaping in the house! It’ll make me less likely to go outside!

any other ideas?

I’ve quit after going down to nicotine free too - I’ve found lollipops have helped me with something to do with my hands when I feel like it, only downside being DD’s now always want a lollipop too. No other tips so far as the last two days have been really hard 😂

Maybe always leave it in the other room? So if you’re in the living room, leave it in the kitchen? If you’re as lazy as me that should help!

Great tip! I’m going to the supermarket tonight so will pick some up x

Vapeaddict · 02/01/2026 21:21

@namechangeformeeee probably not addicted to the nicotine but the first time I stopped I realised how habitual that hand to mouth action was and that was the hardest thing to break. I kept feeling like I'd forgotten something! Literally had to remind myself every couple of minutes "you don't do that any more" 🫣

My 6mg is finished and I'm down to the 3. It's frustrating as hell tbh, I keep sneaking DH's which is completely defeating the object. We're out tomorrow eve and I'm thinking I should take the step of leaving it at home- mostly so I'm not sneaking off to the loo every 5 minutes. If I know I don't have access to it I'm nowhere near as bothered, that's got to be a good sign?! I still haven't picked a quit date and am doubting my ability to quit it again

realsavagelike · 03/01/2026 05:06

Pennyplant19 · 31/12/2025 19:14

I want to quit - I stupidly started a few years ago having given up smoking 20 years ago! What an idiot! I gave up when we went to Singapore last year as it’s illegal there but started again. Was thinking of trying Allen Carr again - that’s how I gave up smoking.

This is exactly me! I smoked for 9 years when I was younger and then quit when I was 24 after a few reads of the Allan Carr book. 20 years later decided to try a vape when visiting my sister and now been vaping for 2.5 years...Disposables are available here in Canada so that's what I've been using. Infuriatingly, nicotine free vapes are not available here or that's what I would be using to try and quit. @Vapeaddict , I was on your previous thread and still stuck in the trap too! Earlier this year I managed to quit cold turkey for a couple of months before having 'just a couple of puffs' and here I am again. I can usually make it about 48 hours before caving and just need that magic phrase for when I am about to cave and go to the vape shop - something that will allow me to make the strong choice! I have read the updated Allan Carr vaping book but it's like the spell has been broken and it doesn't seem to have helped me much this time even though I wholeheartedly agree with all the points it makes. HELP! Do patches help with the psychological cravings? I've never tried them before but considering it now.

realsavagelike · 03/01/2026 05:10

The Allan Carr point that resonated with me the most is where the author discusses how in situations where we know vaping is 100 percent off the table e.g. on a plane, it's relatively easy to go for hours without vaping. The biggest cravings for me always happen in those situations where I am wrestling with myself over whether to say 'screw it' and go buy a vape or not. If the choice is out of my hands the cravings can be easily ignored. I'm so over the whole thing.
