Vape-Free in 2026

Hi - I am looking for others who are quitting vaping.

I have quit multiple times, for months at a time, but I always start again. My DH vapes and is not interested in quitting which is difficult as I always know there's a vape in the house. Although, on the bright side, I have learnt something new each time I have "quit" and now I hopefully know how to be successful.

I really want this time to be different and would love to find some people in a similar position for support and encouragement. Whether you have quit, are currently trying to quit, or just thinking about it. All welcome.

Today is my Day 1.

Day 1 (again) for me today. Feeling very sleep deprived as my youngest was up in the night with bad nightmares, and have "the fear" about first day back at work today.
However feeling OK about the lack of vaping, weirdly.
See how long that lasts!

How are you getting on?

How are you getting on?

I'm fine actually, thanks for asking. Busy day at work has kept me occupied. Have also kept busy since I got home and only just had "the urge" when I've finally sat down for 5 mins after getting the kids to bed (so came on Mumsnet to distract myself). Hopefully can power through the first few days.

How are you doing?

Working from home today as still snowed in. Finding it hard as usually vape when wfh which us a terrible habit and feeling stressed. Wanting to go to the gym as I find exercise helps me with beating cravings but had to abandon my car yesterday about 5 miles from home so have no transport.

How are you feeling today?

Most of our snow has melted now (we didn't have as much as you by the sound of it). I love snow!

Glad you've nearly got the first day under your belt. Keep up the good work! I'm on day 6 and feeling surprisingly good. Have moments when I'm feeling stressed and want it but remind myself the vaping won't improve the stressful situation and that I'd be disappointed with myself if I did it. So I haven't and feeling proud. I keep finding my patches attached to my clothes which makes me wonder whether it's more psychological the support I'm getting from them!

Blacksheepatnewyear · 06/01/2026 20:50

Struggling. Think it's more boredom than anything else. We're completely cut off, only been out to walk the dog but it's so cold (-8) he can't be out for long. Annoyingly I only bought 1 box of patches & will run out soon. I still have gum & lozenges but weirdly these make me sneeze!? This is harder than I expected

blankcanvas3 · 06/01/2026 20:58

I had a bloody cigarette today 😬 I decided it was better than vaping. We’re still stuck inside at the moment and my daughter has been absolutely feral all day, so the moment DH finished work and I got a second to myself I went and stood in the shed with a cigarette 😂 I found a half full packet in a jacket pocket (my DS’s so I’ll deal with that later!) and couldn’t help myself

That's got to be difficult. Can you start a project or a book to keep you occupied? I can imagine you are going a bit stir crazy. You are doing really well!

The gum makes me cough. I haven't used any yet as I really don't like it much!

Hi everyone! Day 7 for me... generally okay but had cravings yesterday and today. Tempted to buy a lost mary argh! I think returning to work on Monday and WFH makes it harder...

Also did anyone see in the news about them finding nicotine has benefits for brain health... when not delivered alongside chemicals. That hasn't helped!!!

How are you all doing today?

Blacksheepatnewyear · 07/01/2026 10:04

Everyone seems to be getting on ok so well done all 👏 This group us really helping me. Sorry for the subject matter but how do you deal with constipation?? I always found it needed to 'go' after vaping so now I'm bunged up. Probably not helped by lack of exercise due to the weather!! Feeling really uncomfortable. Am I imagining this is a side effect or does anyone else relate to this?

Black coffee? Though I will say usually I go straight after my first coffee and vape in the morning and now I’m not vaping and just drinking coffee it’s definitely happening later on

Yes there are benefits to nicotine (minus all the chemicals found in fag's and vapes of course). It's why during covid they found smokers didn't have poor outcomes compared to non smoking population.

Absolutely! I always went like clockwork after a fag or vape in the morning. There must be something to it as others I know say the same! No ideas other than more fibre more water sorry!

Anyone having vivid dreams since quitting? I never used to remember my dreams but since quitting I'm waking up every morning remembering them all and a bit like wtf lol!

goldenhunter · 07/01/2026 11:21

I am quitting vaping this year. I have done it before and was successful using the lozenges, and for some reason started again which was stupid. I tried to quit again with the lozenges last summer, and really struggled and couldn’t do it. Then I realised that the disposable vapes (now rechargeable like lost Mary or IVG) that I was using are 20mg of nicotine!!! So no wonder I went back to it again.

I’ve now bought a cheap refillable vape and liquids decreasing in strength. Started on 20mg, now on 18mg and will step down again on Sunday. Hoping to get down to 6mg before stopping and using the lozenges again.

namechangeformeeee · 07/01/2026 11:34

Ok I’ve finally decided to bite the bullet properly so today is officially day 1!

as I mentioned before I’ve been on nicotine free liquid for a while but have still been unable to ditch the vape - so fingers crossed it sticks this time. We can do it! Xx

I did have a very weird and vivid dream last night, perhaps it’s related

Don't worry about it. Give yourself some grace. Weightloss can be 2027 new year rez lol after you've been vape free for 2026! 🙏

Are you using anything for Nicotine replacement like gum/lozenges etc? Vivid dreams are a known side effect of NRT, when I used the patches to quit smoking years ago I had actual night terrors out of the blue, it was awful.

I was on 0% nicotine liquid from May so it's been ages since there was any physical addiction for me. However, I was probably the most constant vaper I knew, it was always in my hand so my habit was strong.

I'm on day 7 now of quitting the vape but it was actually unintentional at first. On NYD I was immensely hungover... couldn't-keep-water-down-hungover 😳 which is VERY unlike me. I couldn't even look at my vape all day and that's the first day I haven't vaped for literally years. Then on the 2nd I woke up with my chest on fire and I've had an awful heavy chest-cold since so again couldn't vape.

Yesterday was the first day I felt semi human and I realised I was on day 6 of unintenionally not vaping due to hangover and illness - so I decided I just as well continue!

Considering I'm not going through nicotine withdrawal though i've found today and yesterday bloody hard! I'm surprised I'm not glued to the toilet because I think i've eaten about 20 tubs of tic tacs 😂
