As the old one is nearly full!

All & any vaping chat welcome.

No question is too daft to ask. We've all been there at the start of vaping in the minefield that it is.

Only rule is: No Willy Waving!!

I haven't checked in here for aaaaaggggeeees, and looks like no-one else has either. But just for completeness -
It was six months last week since I smoked my last stinky.
I've successfully weaned myself from 18mg juice down to 12mg.
Still using the Aspire mini, one in use, one on charge.
Settled with onepound peppermint liquid as constant changing not suiting me.
Calculator says I am approx £2280 better off (remember, I was a 40 a dayer).
Am getting more and more sensitive to the smell of stinky, and I don't like it! But haven't plucked up the courage to tell visitors I can smell them when they pop out for a fag!

I so wish vaping had been around 10 yrs ago. I'm convinced it would have saved the life of someone dear to me.

I still can't believe this is me. Nearly 35 years of fags and now This Is Me!

I've gone a bit backwards with it all.

Recently went away and took my vape and was happily using it but smoked stinkys more than I have in the last couple of months as I was only having 1 max of 2 so I need to cut down again as I'm back now and have been having 3/4. Want to cut back down to where I was before.

Can anyone tell me is there s big difference between the £1 flavours and the normal ones in shops? I've not been in a shop and someone said they thought mine looked quite watery compared to there £13 30ml bottle. I tried to take a few drags of there's too see what it was like but I'm on the mini naut so used to that top and there air hole was massive and I couldn't get a proper drag as found it odd.

Allergictoironing · 19/04/2016 17:50

That depends, I get my all day vape from Onepoundliquid but use more expensive ones as a treat now & again. It's a matter of taste really, same as the kit you use.

BUT - if you're buying the £1 bottles from market stalls or pound shops, there's a fairly good chance that they have been manufactured in the far east and not to the standards of a UK or USA liquid. This means they can be contaminated or have additives.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/04/2016 20:57

Mine are manufactured in the far east Grin Hangsen and Dekang are fine (if you like high PG) but I wouldn't touch any Chinese brands I haven't heard of. Diamond Mist is another OK one but I've only tried one flavour and didn't like it.

there air hole was massive and I couldn't get a proper drag as found it odd.

Yeah there are different styles of vaping and these sort of setups are very fashionable at the moment but they don't suit everybody. They use a low resistance coil (less than 1.0 ohm) at high power (50-100 watts), gallons of low nicotine, high VG liquid, and hoover it straight into their lungs, as opposed to sucking a mouthful and then inhaling, as you'd do with a cigarette and as you probably do with your setup.

If what you're using now basically works, stick with it and don't feel pressured into 'upgrading' to the latest thing. You might want to go up a nicotine strength if you're struggling.

PG is thinner, provides 'throat hit' and carries flavour better. It can be a bit harsh, especially if you vape at high power and doesn't produce much visible vapour. VG is thicker and much softer on the throat. It's great for vaping at higher power, if that's your thing, and makes a big cloud. It doesn't carry flavour so well though and it gunks up coils much quicker.

One pound eliquid do some high VG flavours but only 6mg or less.

runningbug123 · 25/04/2016 09:03

I've got the eleaf istick 50w and mini nautilus and I'm using 18mg nicotine and think I need to go for a lower strength now as my throat is hurting from it do I just go down to the next level nicotine?

Also any recommendations for somewhere online I can buy a big bottle of cherry flavour? I haven't got a car and a trip out on the bus costs £££.

I've tried most of the liquid from the pound liquid shop and fancy trying another brand now as I'm not spending much now just a new cool now and again.

Also can someone help with ohms I've tried a 1.6 and 1.8 I normally run at 8w so what would suit me best? I think they go upto 2ohms

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 25/04/2016 09:28

If your throat is hurting it's likely to be the PG rather than the nicotine level. It's not unusual for people to develop an intolerance. You could look for a higher VG liquid. I'm no help for juice recommendations as I bulk-buy the cheap shit direct from China. If you want to cut down the nic, yes, just buy the next one down (usually 12mg). Also you can mix them to get a strength inbetween.

The ohms shouldn't make much difference if you are using watts. The lower the ohms, the hotter the coil at the same voltage:

1.8 ohms at 8 watts - the battery will push about 3.7 - 3.8 volts through the coil
1.6 ohms at 8 watts - the battery will push about 3.6 volts through the coil
2.0 ohms at 8 watts - the battery will push about 4 Volts through the coil

But because you are using watts, all three should be roughly the same temperature.

Different resistance coils are useful if you are using an old fashioned ego or a mechanical mod that you can't adjust - instead of increasing the watts you can use a lower resistance coil. They're also useful for people who vape at high power because there's a limit to how many volts you can (safely) get out of a battery so you need to lower the resistance for the same results.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 25/04/2016 09:32

There's a good ohms law calculator here. You can lock one setting and play with the other values to get an idea how it works.

Allergictoironing · 27/04/2016 19:10

Gravesend seems to be the place to live these days; a few months ago I posted about a decent vape shop opening up in the town - and now we have an independent vaping lounge as well!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 27/04/2016 20:37

Ooh I'm jealous! Are there normal people in there or is it all hairy cloudchasing willy-wavers in black t-shirts?

Allergictoironing · 28/04/2016 07:16

They literally only opened last week. I admit the owner does have a pretty magnificent beard and does cloud chase himself, but was totally non-judgemental when I whipped out my EVOD twist with a GS-H2 (standard for daytime at work). A couple of customers popped in while I was chatting, both of who were using pretty basic set ups and he was advising on those and not trying to push anything more.

It's tucked at the back of one of the small malls we have here, so I hope it doesn't get overlooked!

But of course we had that report out today from the Royal College of Physicians no less, saying it's at least 95% safer and isn't a gateway to fags Smile. So yet another august body supporting us (yay).

oktimetodoit · 30/04/2016 20:06

1 week in to vaping, I have tried the basic ecigs before but never lasted longer than a day and my willpower is shockingly shit. I couldn't quite bring myself to completely quit smoking but have gone from 25 to 8 (3mg vaping between smokes) which I'm quite chuffed with tbh. I'm trying to replace my I MUST smokes first eg first thing in a morning, last thing at night, after meals.

Can I ask did anyone else feel REALLY tired when they first started?? I'm not feeling anything else just unusually tired at 7pm! Confused

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 30/04/2016 21:14

oktime well done for taking the plunge, you're doing brilliantly! Star How many fags have you not smoked so far? Most people 'dual fuel' for a bit before they completely quit smoking, DH took a year to finally drop his breakfast fag. It takes a while to sort out the kit and the eliquid(s) that work best for you and how to use it all, and what to do when it goes wrong.

3mg is very low strength, don't be afraid to go higher. Most people start on at least 12mg (18 for 20+ a day smokers). What kit are you using? Some of the newer kit is designed to be used with lower strength liquid but even so, 3mg is very low.

Allergic, your vape lounge does sound promising. I haven't had time to look at the RCP report but I've heard some bits on R4 about it. I've got really pissed off with the naive concerned 'so does this mean the TPD rules on ecigs might be damaging to public health?' questions from R4 presenters. Lots of us tried really really hard to get the BBC to pay any attention at all to the TPD and what it would mean for vaping and public health - while it was being debated and something could still be done to change it. We were all just blanked! For a long while the BBC weren't doing any reporting at all on ecigs, even when there were big stories elsewhere in the press. It was all a bit strange.

Congratulations Polter on your second vapiversary! StarFlowersStar

The biggest issue will be imported liquids. All the decent shops I know & talk to have great ranges of US made liquids, which mostly seem to be supplied in a minimum bottle size of 15ml and sometimes 30ml. Just how many of these fantastic US manufacturers will set up a whole bottling line just for the UK market?

There seems to be mixed views in the UK manufacturing scene as far as I can see. Some brands went straight to 10ml bottles only back when the TPD first went through, others seem to be of the opinion that as they will have a full year to clear stock once TPD is enacted in the UK, they may as well continue with bigger bottles until they HAVE to stop.

The other little thing that I'd actually missed from the legislation is that according to one lounge owner the other day, it seems they are talking about vape shops not being able to act as a coffee shop at the same time, i.e. no traditional vape lounges. Don't quote me on the next bit, but I THINK they would still be able to have coffee vending machines, but no more of how my friend's shop does it with full barista style machines and their own (lovely) coffee blend made to order.

Welshmaenad · 08/05/2016 19:07

runningbug try ciggyjuice for big bottles at decent prices, you can select your own VG/pg mix snd Nic strength and also opt for an extra flavour shot if you want one.

They do little sample vials so you can try before committing to s big bottle. I want keen on their cheery sweet flavour but the Black Cherry is delicious IMHO.

Vampire Vape juices are also awesome, I'm addicted to Vamp Toes which is a Vimto flavour but the Red Lips is a nice cherry sweet flavour.
