How to do greet your DSC?

DH has his DSC every other week and part of the school holidays. I like them, we get on well. However DH has picked me up on my greeting them. Aparantly I don't seem very excited when they are here. I just say hi hello, etc how are you? When I next see them. I don't come rushing down the stairs squealing in delight. AIBU to just treat them like anyone else coming and going from the house? They don't say HELLOO up the stairs or whatever when they are here.

As someone with a very good relationship with now adult DSS I think what you're doing is fine . It's all very easy for people who've never been a SP to come up with ideas for those who actually are . It's a fine line that we walk. The children are coming in to their home not visiting a distant auntie! Im sure youre doing a great job of a difficult job . Carry on !

My DP knew my kids for two years before we got together, they adore him and throw themselves at him whenever he picks them up. He loves them too, but it's still "Alright mate?" 😂😂

I was the same with my former DSS. He was a troubled kid and often difficult, but I'd ask him how he was and rope him into cooking dinner. We had the odd hug, but not very often - he was a young teen.

There's nothing wrong with not being thrilled to see your stepkids - it's pretty normal to not be thrilled to see your own kids when they get home, knocking seven bells of shite out of each other!
