Tbf to the OP it’s major news and has been in the news for years, it’s about financial penalties.

It's crazy how many teams are impacted by this. The team relegated by two points that were beaten by them, cup matches, championships ....
Where to start with punishment given the ones already given to teams for lesser financial crimes!

Basically over 100 records of financial misconduct which has led to better players being signed which led to winning. Meaning the teams they beat were beaten unlawfully.

Looked for a thread earlier on this. I'm pleased that after it's been dragged out for the last few years that they've been found guilty of 114 of 115 charges. They've totally taken the piss and flaunted the rules for years, everyone knew they were buying the game, now they need to answer for it. There's talks of several clubs suing them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Everton were docked 10 points and fined millions of pounds for a couple of offences, so it'll be interesting to see how city are punished.

I’ve not had much of a reaction as I’m not surprised they’re guilty. I am slightly surprised they were actually found guilty. I guess we’ll see what the punishment is. There will be a long appeal process I’m sure so who knows when it’ll be applied.

It has made me really cross that it has ben allowed to carry on so long, and therefore affect SO many games and other teams (across Europe, not just the PL).
It seems like one rule for them and completely different rule for all the other clubs who were docked points for minor infringements.

well yes but how can they resolve it without the whole of British football imploding? How many other teams have also committed financial misconduct. So if they sue and Man City counter sue and reveal more misconduct then what then?And if all the teams that have beaten them sue then where does it leave the premier league. Unless they just get totally abolished but you can’t do that do a club. I’m not quite sure really how this can be resolved

@Janefx40I think the point is that they have got away with it for so long and for so many. Other clubs have been punished for (much less) similar stuff already. I think the powers that be at City thought they were far too important to the league. It will be interesting to see if the punishment is relative to other clubs - if it is then I dont see how they would survive

They cheated and as my Nan used to say, be sure your sins will find you out. Now they have. Shove them in the National League and let them work their way back up.

If they appeal, relegate them to the Northern Premier League.

They masked money from their owners in abu dhabi as legit sponsorship which it wasn't (this is not allowed). They also paid managers/players extra money off the books to bypass any limits they had on their spending. Then refused to provide full financial records. There are 115 charges i believe guilty of 114 of them. It is quite interesting and makes me wonder how many other clubs do similar.

As a Liverpool fan it stings, but tbh it's something we've known all along.

I thought it would be brushed under the carpet, so pleasantly surprised they've been found guilty.

Pep has completely destroyed his reputation. He was known as one of the greats and now he’s a rat that left a grubby little ship. Impossible to sift through the 1000s of ways it impacted other teams and their communities. A mega fine and 100 point deduction asap is the least they deserve.

Automatic relegation would be good. Are particular players implicated?

Relegate them to Sunday League playing the Dog & Duck on dogshit park pitches.

The owner thinks that because he has unlimited money to spend he is above the law, even when it came to the time of investigations he didn't conform to what he was asked to do. Over the 10 years that they thought they were above the rules countless clubs have been relegated, excluded from playing in European competitions & have not won the Premier League due to them cheating, other clubs have had points deductions for single offences. Clubs will have lost countless millions due to them cheating. They should be given unlimited fines, kicked out of the Premier League & the EFL should refuse to allow them into their leagues. My team sold our best young player to them at the beginning of the season, a player that in years to come will be worth 40 or 50 times what they paid for him, chances are we will lose out on the add ons if they get relegated due to points deductions, they got him for a low transfer fee with the understanding we would get double the transfer fee if he played a certain number of Premier League matches over the next 5 years, to them the money is pocket change, to a club like mine that money could buy us at least 3 players. I sincerely hope that Nick De Marco who is on our payroll will be on the ball at either getting us a settlement now or get the transfer reversed.

Personally I don’t see the point of relegation, it stops the lower league teams from getting promoted and they’ll suffer as well. Also as we’ve seen with Rangers it makes zero difference long term. I think hitting them financially would hurt them more, rich people don’t like to be parted with their money when they are getting nothing out of it.

I think the problem is they're one of the clubs effectively bankrolled by a nation state so chances are even a massive financial penalty may not hit the Mr and Mrs Bigs at the top.

There has to be a points penalty, maybe even relegation, to disuade others but TBH I'm not sure the authorities have the stones for the latter, especially if this goes political, which isn't out of the question.

It is certainly going to be very interesting to see what happens next.

I agree with you, why should other clubs lose their chance of progression because a massive team like City invade their league?

The simple answer is the club should be wound up, it's happened before and either a phoenix team starts up or it disappears for ever.

No, there has to be a serious sporting penalty. A fine means nothing to a club like Man City, and it would signal to all the other clubs with rich owners (e.g. Newcastle, Villa) that the financial rules are meaningless and you can do what you want.

It also does nothing for the clubs they've wronged over the years.

There has to be a massive points deduction that ensures relegation (not only to the Championship, but beyond that to at least League One imo) and a transfer ban for several years. None of their stars are going to stick around for that.

The nuclear option is expulsion from the league altogether, and from Ben Jacobs reporting yesterday it seems that's an option that's being considered.

I really don't think the PL would have taken it this far just to give them a slap on the wrist. It's very very serious.
