Mr Bref happy that Coventry finally bit the "not yet beaten" dust.

Only one Premier League game on Boxing day? that is utter tripe.

JasonTindallsTan · 01/11/2025 06:56

The whole Boxing Day thing is ludicrous. I love (when we don’t have a home game) nothing better than lounging watching back to back matches on Boxing Day. And to have the only game KO at 8pm shows absolutely no regard for the travelling fans. No way of getting back from Manchester on Boxing Day at 10pm. It is an absolute joke.

Tiswa · 01/11/2025 09:35

We are away so selfishly (this year) happy with the Boxing Day as means I can get pretty much a full day out with DH and DS before they want to watch the sport (am happy with FotMob and Sofascore)
it’s the News Yesr Day matches that have thrown everything- that is the airport day so having to figure that out!

I do think it is a quirk of the days of the week partly as well next year will have loads. The 27th though has more 3pm Sat kick off than seen for years

Ready for the rugby

The 8pm kick off is shocking.

not having any regard for the away fans really really gets my goat. In Germany the DFB (the German FA) and say that they won't make travelling fans go more than 350km (217 miles) and assume that they will travel by car or coach. I don't think they take any account of public transport. (Grrr)

When Gladbach built their new stadium, it was promised (by the government and the railways) that a new stop would be added to the railway to enable travel to/from the ground by train. Hahahaha. Never happened. So the club have to lay on loads and loads of buses. Which get overfull and the queues are horrendous. But that works for Saturday (or Sunday) midday matches, or the one at 6:30pm. But for our cup match the other day, kick off was at 8:45pm, and the opponent was from Karlsruhe - 3.5 hours by car on a good day). The club sent out a message saying: if it goes to extra time (we have extra time & penalties if it ends in a draw) there is no more public transport. That was it. (and anyway, the trains to Düsseldorf are all cancelled and there is replacement bus)

Goodness knows what happened on our friday night match against Freiburg. 5 Hour drive and nearly no public transport.

JasonTindallsTan · 01/11/2025 12:51

Fans really should be at the heart of all football decisions and yet for the most part they’re nothing but an afterthought. If thought of at all.

TheNewGaard · 01/11/2025 13:05

Totally agree. It was traditional that you would play a local team on Boxing Day (and New Year), so there wouldn't be much travelling required. It would be afternoon, so you'd have time to get back for a family dinner of left-overs.

The 8 o'clock thing in particular is disgusting.

Brefugee · 01/11/2025 13:05

i kind of fear we are losing football by increments.

Tiswa · 01/11/2025 14:45

8pm is New Year as well with the first kick off being 5:30

which for a bank holiday is odd

Hellohah · 01/11/2025 14:58

Our next weekend home game is the Derby on 17 January. This will obviously get moved for TV so won't be the currently scheduled 3pm Saturday KO either.

Not a single weekend home game for almost 3 months for us.

It doesn't make much difference to me, I live locally and DS is 20 so no worry about late nights with young kids etc ... But it does affect so many travelling reds and those who want to take young ones these days.

They genuinely don't give a shit.

Tarkan · 01/11/2025 15:07

Of course Douglas Ross is in front of the away fans so it’s harder for us to chant at him. Hoping Ross County have fun for us there then LOL.

Great and much needed win for us today!
Desperately need to keep Welbeck fit though- 6 goals already this season

Brefugee · 01/11/2025 18:23

Gladbach stuffed St Pauli away so now 16th in the table. We can score goals! Wednesday didn't lose so I'm happy

Tarkan · 01/11/2025 19:38

Another nice wee win at home for Arbroath so we’re sitting third in the league behind St Johnstone and Partick Thistle so I’ll take that. Saints and Ross County are the two that came down to the Championship and we came up from League One so 3-1 over St Johnstone and 3-0 over Ross County today are really good results for us.

TheSleepingGiant · 01/11/2025 19:56

Removed Pedro from my FPL this week after several weeks of being non-existent Of course he goes and scores😬Tottenham really poor again at home.

Gillingham out of the FA Cup 1st round. Lost 5-4 on pens against Newport. My local non-league club also went out in ET today. Pretty sad about that one as they hadn't got this far in the competition since 1928.

Brefugee · 01/11/2025 20:00

I'm never sure if i prefer the German cup method (all in it, right from the start, complicated rules for clubs from much lower leagues to qualify - which is really exciting for them but i don'T follow it until it starts. First drawn gets a home match unless they are in the first or 2nd division and their opponent is from 3 or below) or the English one where higher leagues aren't included until later.

For the Germans, some semi-amateur league with a stadium that holds 2,000 people might draw Bayern at home. Or the chance to get through a few rounds before meeting the big boys.

Same which considering Chelsea was playing Spurs was a stupid move on my part!

DuncinToffee · 02/11/2025 10:22

I have neither Pedro or Ekitiki but might regret changing my mind on making Rice my captain.

Wolves have sacked Pereira, he just signed a new contract so that is going to be costly.
