Another win, 3 lovely goals, 2 more Grealish assists and squeaky bum time towards the end.

That was quite possibly the filthiest match I’ve ever seen at Gayfield. One of our guys was getting constantly brought down with arms around his neck and it nearly caused a fight at one point. Even had an Airdrie player who the ref decided we had fouled and then just kicked our guy in the shin for no reason. Our guy then got carded for it. The ref was appalling. Stats say we committed 9 fouls and 19 for Airdrie, 3 yellows for us and 2 for them but honestly don’t know how they didn’t have anyone sent off with how that went.

And the icing on the cake was that they’d run out of smokie pies even before the match started.

DuncinToffee · 30/08/2025 18:23

Oh Tarkan, not the smokie pies Sad

I know! Tsk LOL. They had special programmes that were sold out before we got there too.

Thankfully we somehow won 1-0 despite all that.

TheSleepingGiant · 30/08/2025 19:56

Not seen any games today, just scores, but Gillingham won 1-0 away to Oldham with Sam Volkes getting his first goal for the club. Top of the table and unbeaten in 18 league games now 🙌

MrsMitford3 · 30/08/2025 20:19

what's a smokie pie?????

I assume (and please correct if wrong) that it is a smoked haddock pie as that is what an Arbroath smokie is smoked haddock

Brefugee · 30/08/2025 21:23

gosh, no smokie pie, no special programme AND a daft ref? blimey.

Wednesday lost. Surprise.
Gladbach lost. Surprise. But played well, considering. Surprise.
Boro won and are top of the league (sigh) but beat Sheffield United so schadenfreude there.

Tarkan · 30/08/2025 22:02

Yup this is a smokie pie. As @Tiswa says it’s a smoked haddock, but not just any smoked haddock, has to be from up here to be a smokie. It’s in a light sauce in the pie and it’s honestly so lovely. You can find smokies in every way up here. They’re lovely just warm and eaten fresh but I also make a gorgeous smokie pate every Christmas too.

We walked past the fish shop that makes them after the match so my friend bought one to have at home.

VAR was not great today either I have to say

DuncinToffee · 30/08/2025 22:39

Watching Motd? We just said that about the Man U penalty

My mum just texted me that!
We were on second as well, UTFT!

AndNobbyDancing · 31/08/2025 08:12

Was pleased to see Bournemouth beat Spurs yesterday - it's not the manager that Spurs needs to change.

Really disappointed with our draw today against cheating Watford. Although Southampton have had some wins so that has made a nice change from last season.

Tiswa · 31/08/2025 09:46

So Wissa has now released an almost identical statement (certainly in ethos) to Isak!

I remember some of the kits in the early 1990s- an Arsenal one and the Norwich one when they beat Bayern Munich come to mind. Someone called the Norwich one tippex and snot!

Yes, hopefully NC will make a stand and withdraw their interest in signing him. I doubt it though.

JasonTindallsTan · 31/08/2025 11:12

Don’t like the Wissa statement at all but at least it mentions the club and the fans and he has been upfront about what (written) promises he believes have been broken so in that sense, whilst it remains a shitty thing to do, it is a lot clearer than the ‘everyone is snakes, just me and my agent from now on’ bilge that Isak peddled out. Both are absolute dicks refusing to play whilst still under contract.

An interesting 48 hours ahead.

Tiswa · 31/08/2025 13:10

Yes very interesting and waiting to see how Nicholas Jackson reacts. Bayern are not happy with the premier league at the moment

Personally I think some of the Isak/Wissa issues would have been smoother if Newcastle had a sporting director - in the past I think many have wondered why they are needed and I think this highlights why.

Coaching and managing a team and managing recruitment and contracts are two very different skill sets and having one of each really does help and I think like it or not a mainstay now of modern football

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2025 13:11

I agreed with the comments on motd regarding the Jackson situation, Chelsea have plenty of cover.

OP posts:
Tiswa · 31/08/2025 13:38

What was said in MOTD?

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2025 13:46

Basically that Jackson hasn't been involved and now he is expected to come back for Delap's absence when they have other players who could do that.

Nuno going before Potter?

Now this is the West Ham I like to watch. 3 goals in 7 minutes. Brilliant stuff.

Nuno going before Potter?

Definitely think that result today has saved Potter for now.
