All are welcome - even Utd fans! 😉

Three academy teenagers on the pitch at the moment!

outofdate · 23/08/2025 19:15

Max Dowman looks a great prospect for Arsenal and England!

DuncinToffee · 23/08/2025 19:26

Shame they didn't let him take the penalty

Thanks I think 😂

Arsenal’s academy must be doing something right. Producing some decent prospects. United did well to poach Aiden Heaven and Chido Obi-Martin from them.

Yes, I was hoping, but didn't think Victor would let him take it as he wants his goal tally.

Mind if I join in folks? Season ticket holder at Old Trafford here. I go with my 2 DS (DH and DD not football fans).

Was browsing MN for something else and came across this thread!

Welcome

Yes, I wasn't happy when we lost Obi, but whenever I have seen him play for you, he doesn't seem to do very much.

I think it is so hard to actually properly make it especially in this transfer heavy world.

I remember Danny Rose scoring against Arsenal and he never had the career.

and the win Liverpool had in the Carabao Cup. Bobby Clark is now at Derby, McConnell will also go and Danns is injured.

Heaven and Obi Martin haven’t exactly been great either and what happened to Mainoo

it is such a tough tough career to actually make it

I hope Mainoo can make a comeback - he is such a good player. And I hope the same for Marcus Rashford. It makes me sad that Manchester United is such a shit show right now, and that there seems to be a pattern of lots of their players being abandoned and trash-talked in the media (just my opinion, before anyone comes for me!)

Separately, I would really love to see Dele Alli make a comeback - perhaps in coaching/management or even presenting/podcasting if the rest of his football playing career doesn’t work out.

Yes, it really is.

There are so many talented youngsters and quite a few of them do really well in their first game or so and then they just fizzle out.

My DD 3 years old is paying attention to the game on the TV (arsenal v Leeds) for the first time really and so far I have tried to explain the roles of: ref, goal keeper, ref assistant, manager. Plus why the team where the same colours and goalkeepers different colours, what a free kick is and what the numbers on their back mean.
However she is still adamant it’s boring

took DD to her first match around that age-her 2 older brothers already football mad.
She is still teased for asking if the goals the mascots scored at half time count 😂

edited to add I think Gunnersaurus would be a set piece monster

DuncinToffee · 23/08/2025 22:11

DS at his first match asked why the Everton fans didn't like the team as they kept shouting at them.

We often remind him of that Grin

Edited

I took DD at 6m old but obviously she doesn’t remember that, I will take her again in a couple of years I think.
I took my godson to see Brighton playing at the withdean when he was about 4/5 years old. He was initially concerned that people were shouting, when we explained it was ok to do that at football he started joining in with a seagulls chant, we thought great he has got it… until we realised he was calling to the gulls circling above! 😂
Took the same boy to see a local team play aged 2.5ish and he was terrified of the mascot to the point he couldn’t take his eyes off it for the whole game.

TheNewGaard · 23/08/2025 23:03

Apparently, Gunnersaurus scored a penalty against the Leeds mascot at half time and did the Gyökeres celebration!

Not sure who on here is a Crystal Place fan but as a fanbase they have been so classy about Eze leaving.

Lots of fans being interviewed- they wished him well-acknowledged it was a step up for him with CL etc and were proud of him. Holding up signs thanking him. Hoping for an England boost for him. Proud to see him realise a dream of his.

So refreshing after so many spats and keyboard warriors across the transfer window being negative and nasty and just wanted to acknowledge CP and how how refreshing it is!!

We’ll miss him but much rather we lost him to Arsenal than Spurs. Saw someone saying that would be like your girlfriend dumping you because she had her head turned by Mick Hucknell 😂

We haven’t really seen Obi perform at his best yet - didn’t help that he couldn’t participate in the Europa League last season.

Have seen a couple of decent outings from Heaven. Thinks forward like a midfielder, can carry the ball, big and quick.

Mainoo - I’m not sure Amorim knows how to use him in his system. He’s filled out since last season so obviously been working hard. I think United would sell him if we got £50m.

burblish · 24/08/2025 00:18

@MrsMitford3 @Cuwins The first time I took my mum to a football match, she was SO excited, bless her. Unfortunately, partway through the first half, we realised she hadn't managed to work out which team was which, and so was merrily cheering on the opposition (much to the mortification of my children)! I had to gently explain to her to take her cue from her surroundings: when everyone around her (and 95% of the stadium) cheered, she should too; when that small section of people in the opposite stand looked happy, she shouldn't join in with them...

Not the first time boring and Arsenal have been written in the same paragraph, so 1980s!

And another example of why we need that laughing emoji back-
this made me properly laugh!!!

I have to say his excitement is contagious and the letter he wrote to the CP fans was lovely. He seems one of the good guys.

Tiswa · 24/08/2025 08:54

DD is 16 has been dragged to a few football matches and watch on tv (we do have separate tv viewing area though now) and still gets confused by the fact they switch sides at half time!

😂😂 As a Spurs fan, that did hurt me!

Joking aside though, He does sound lovely. I read this article about him last night, and he sounds very impressive: https://www.premierleague.com/en/news/4387283/ezes-incredible-journey-of-rejection-and-resilience. I’m off to read his letter to the CP fans now.
