Thread two

We are over halfway through the season. It looks like the WDC will either be Lando or Oscar. Hoping for a grandstand finish in Abu Dhabi.

Max on pole Lando second.

I hope tomorrow Lando just slots in behind Max and cruises to second.

I felt for Lewis in the interview. I feel he's done. He's said if hes not enjoying it he'd retire, and hes clearly not enjoying it.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 06/12/2025 15:08

Oscar sounded so flat on the radio at the end. Tough end pod the season for him.

I find it really hard to watch Lewis being interviewed now. He is so down and obviously doesn't want to have to talk.

Part of me wants him to retire but part of me lives in hope that he could have a good car next year and win the champoinship he was cheated out of

Fizbosshoes · 06/12/2025 16:38

I saw Oscar in a post qualifying interview and you can tell he is (understandably) so bored with being asked about team orders, in order to help Lando win.

workingcocker · 06/12/2025 16:59

I’m happy with that, I didn’t want Lando on pole to be barged out the way by Max.

Looking forward for tomorrow!!

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/12/2025 17:46

Lando behind Max is the safest place to be for the start.

Gutted for poor Lewis. Again.

Fizbosshoes · 06/12/2025 17:53

Yeah I also thought Max being ahead at turn 1 is an advantage, especially as Lando doesnt need to win this one

Rowgtfc72 · 06/12/2025 21:33

Lando just goes to pieces on pole.
Got to say neither Mclaren drivers seemed happy in post quali interviews.
Just seen a thing from FIA penalising Alonso for not attending the drivers meal, hope it's not true.

Comefromaway · 06/12/2025 21:47

I think it was a mandatory fan engagement activity & both he & Stroll were fined for non attendance.

Brazilianadventure · 06/12/2025 22:31

It was the fan stage. It was ridiculous scheduling by FOM/FIA/Race organisers. They were scheduled to be on stage before FP1. They both sat out FP1 so would have had to hang around the track for 6 hours before FP2.

As Lewis said in 2020 Cash is King and they really don’t think about the drivers wellbeing.

OP posts:
Rowgtfc72 · 07/12/2025 06:40

Oh that's ridiculous. Its all become a bit of a circus.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 07/12/2025 08:34

I don’t agree - the fan stage is very much part of the experience of going to an F1, which is what funds the sport. So the drivers have to do it. Right before FP1 is not a bad slot, especially if they are not rushing to then do FP1.

I’m sure they weren’t just twiddling their thumbs for the 6 hours at the garage, there will be lots of work still going on, which they would have been involved in

I get the media circus must be annoying when they are trying to get into the right mindset, but it is what funds the sport and their high salaries. I don’t think this is a welfare issue.

But it also seems it was a team mistake not Alonso and Stroll’s so hopefully they will pick up the bill rather than the drivers.

ThatCalmFinch · 07/12/2025 09:17

Lance and Fernando were told by the team they weren't needed, but have offered to do an alternative session and some garage tours.

Yuki's last race :-(

Brazilianadventure · 07/12/2025 10:14

Race Day - Yay

Im so nervous as I just want everyone to get through turn one and have a clean fair race with no technical infringements. 🤞

But Oscar also sat out of FP1 but was very visibly at the track still.

For those who didn’t watch FP1, Oscar was sitting on the pit wall (in Zak’s seat). Actually I loved his reaction to the camera when he realised he’d been caught yawning during FP1. Nice to see his sense of humour is still there despite all the pressure right now.

Brazilianadventure · 07/12/2025 11:03

I think @ThatCalmFinch is right the team decided to field two other drivers. I heard one was Pedro de la Rosa - he is the test driver and has been around for decades he raced from 1999 to 2012.

@Comefromaway I went to see your Musical last night. I’ve seen it before but it’s such an uplifting show.

Yes absolutely. I want Lando to win the WDC but mostly I want no controversy! A good tight race with everyone playing fair and keeping it on track.
Overall this has been a great season and we couldn't have hoped for a closer finish.

Rowgtfc72 · 07/12/2025 11:34

I first came across Lando at Rockingham racetrack in 2014. We'd gone to watch the Touring Cars and at half time went to check out the support races. At the junior ginetta pits the kids where signing autographs. We walked past a small skinny kid. Who'd have known that kid would be going for F1 World champion this weekend.
Rooting for Lando but any of them would be worthy winners.
Please let Lewis finish the whole race ( preferably top ten)
Hope Yuki has a good, clean, last race.

Enjoy!

VaxMerstappen · 07/12/2025 11:42

I guess I'll be in the minority here, but I'm hoping Max pulls off this amazing comeback and wins the championship again. Never been one to support drivers purely on nationality (which I think is pretty unimaginative, really), and Max has clearly been the best driver for most of this season. He'd be the most deserving champion, imo.

I’m not aware anyone on this thread is supporting drivers for their nationality? Seems a weird comment to me but 🙄

If Max does win the WDC today, I do think this is the one that he’s genuinely worthy of and it would be well deserved. I don’t feel the same about his previous wins. However, I would prefer Lando to win as I think his huge improvement in both maturity and skill this year has earned it more. And it’s time for a changing of the guard.

In my fantasy world, I’d love to see Lewis on the podium today but just making the points may well be a challenge too far for him.

Couldn’t agree more @mydogisthebest I think next year might be his best chance as Ferrari won’t be changing their mindset any time soon.

There are other Max fans on here. I appreciate Max’s skill as a driver but just like Schumacher on track he is not always a clean driver. I feel that taints his legacy and why I don’t support him. It has nothing to do with his nationality.

Out of the car, Max seems a genuinely nice man and from glimpses of his relationship with Penelope, Kelly’s daughter, he is lovely with her.

We were at Silverstone for Lando and George's rookie season. They were dead sweet on the drivers stage, talking about how "the big boys" didn't really bother with them and how much fun they were having. I always had a huge soft spot for them since then.
In my heart I'm a Williams fan but the Maccas have always been a close second, that's why Lando is my call for today, not particularly because he is British.

I would actually love it to be Carlos in the Williams (Alex not so much, I find him hard to like)

Rowgtfc72 · 07/12/2025 12:59

@gingercat02 I'm calling Williams as the team to watch next season. We've seen glimpses of them at their best this season.
