Gladbach have a really good youth scheme (with boarding school etc etc) and that is, franky, part of their business model (greatest success? Marc Andre ter Stegen lately of Barca)

Their U17 have reached the finals of their cup, and will play Leipzig on Sunday. in the Borussia Park (they played their semi final there too so hopefully it won't over-awe them). We'll be cheering them on along with about 20,000 others.

You need a school to spell their full name correctly!

Though don't know if Llanfairpwllgwyngyllrogerchwyrndrobwllllantisiliogogogoch have a team!

😂
yeah, i can never really quite get up the oomph to be the one to shout "give us a B..."

burblish · 12/06/2025 19:56

Anyone else watching England U-21 v Czechia U-21? Hopefully the young'uns will show the seniors how to do it!

burblish · 12/06/2025 20:22

It's official - Thomas Frank is the new Spurs manager. I am a big fan of his and I hope Daniel Levy treats him better than he treated the likes of Nuno and Ange (but I doubt it).

MaybeNotBob · 12/06/2025 20:34

And that's annoying, because Frank is a genuinely likeable chap!

Cuwins · 12/06/2025 20:53

Excited by the signing of Charalampos Kostoulas at Brighton. Sounds like a real talent.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 12/06/2025 21:30

Nwanari is coming on.

SlightlyJaded · 12/06/2025 22:11

@Brefugee Agree re: VAR. Especially point 2 when you are looking for blurred, miniscule body parts that may or may not be breaching the calibrated line.

I have never understood everyone crowding the ref and getting in his face. How many times has a referee's decision been overturned because a player got in his face and complained? It's just not going to happen. I think it's hard to solve. I'm not sure going 'through the captain only' will work, as it will slow the game down eg: If I'm in a defensive position and I've just a hand ball that linesman has missed, I am not going to trek upfield to report to my captain but I might want to tell the ref. I wonder if there could be a rule - a bit like in tennis - where each team has one opportunity per match to request a VAR check? I'm not sure...

Thomas Frank then! As I mentioned upthread - met him a few times personally and he is so calm, measured and likeable. I want him to do well and he has proven himself flexible and able to work with some limitations, but unless Levy accepts that winning the Prem costs money, we will forever be finishing top five (on a good day) no matter who our manager is.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 15/06/2025 17:02

Nwanari is starting.

Brefugee · 15/06/2025 17:13

In Germany the U17 teams compete in 5 different regional championships, and then they have a play-off thing to determine who is the national champion.

So the final was between Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig and was held at the stadium, which is pretty cool for the players. Tickets were EUR 10 for adults and EUR 2 for children, and so 10,000 people (including about 1,500 from Leipzig - which is a long long way from here) were in the stadium. Like an actual cup final, with the anthem, televised etc etc. But no beer (boo). And Gladbach won, so a good day out for me.

Just caught C5 bigging up the B. Munich against Auckland game, I am sure it was exciting Confused

England U21 drew their match.

Glad to hear Thomas Frank seems nice. Hoping he’ll be a good fit for the team and that they can both work well together. I hope they have a positive and successful experience, but equal realise - as you say - that there’s more to success than just an experienced and good manager!

There is something to say when the club World Cup looks more like a charity event than soccer aid

That said it does make you realise given Rooney and Lennon are a year younger and Carlos Tevez is exactly a year old (5th Feb is quite the football birthday as Neymar is as well) how amazing it is that the week before Ronaldo led his country to the Nations League (regardless of what you think about it in comparison to the World Cip and Euros) and they scored/assisted in Soccer Aid

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 16/06/2025 20:00

What on earth is happening?! 🤣

DuncinToffee · 18/06/2025 09:15

We start with Leeds away on the Monday night and then we welcome Brighton for our first home match at our new stadium 💙

MaybeNotBob · 18/06/2025 09:58

Away to ManUre, then home to Dirty Leeds. The next 4 are Liverpool, Forest, City, and Toon.
A tough start...

Tiswa · 18/06/2025 13:43

Manchester United apparently have the toughest start (according to Opta Analyst) the Arsenal

i guess it all comes out in the wash!

My excuse at the ready when we're fighting relegation in October 😂

When do other clubs sell their tickets? Apparently we had a big drop for members today at 11. Everyone is going mad due to Big Jim's new category pricing 🤦🏻‍♀️

JasonTindallsTan · 18/06/2025 18:43

Our tickets go on sale to members around 3-4 weeks in advance of the fixture, a small portion is kept back for general sale which go on sale a few days later. Away games to ST holders similar time frames.

I think Manchester United should offer lower prices for local residents (with protections to stop sell ons). It is not as if they would have to give discounts to thousands as a result.

Get on the blower to Big Jim @LlynTegid , I'd very much appreciate a discount, being a local resident👍🏻
