Well done England's Young Lions! (Is it just me or does Elliot Anderson look a bit like Ross Barkley?)

outofdate · 21/06/2025 23:07

Really enjoyed the Young Lions tonight. A great win over Spain. They were terrible losers though.

DuncinToffee · 22/06/2025 11:10

I didn't watch it but well done U21's. Netherlands beat Portugal, playing with 10 men for the majority of the match (Bommel jr got 2 yellows)

England v Netherlands semi final.

Congratulations to the legend that is Santi Cazorla for getting his childhood club Real Oviedo promoted to La Liga for the first time in 24 years.

Now he should be ready to return to Arsenal for that coaching role that's just become available...

burblish · 22/06/2025 21:59

Wow! I'm watching the Germany v Italy U21s QF; Italy were 2-1 down and two men down, 95th minute (with a minimum of 4 extra mins indicated), and they only go and equalise with an incredible free kick! I can't see them managing to hold off Germany for the next 30 mins with only 9 men, but then I doubt anyone expected them to equalise in normal time with only 9 men either!

(Incidentally: I was sort of glad they went down to 9 men because I thought the first red was a bit harsh and it was given to Wilfred Gnonto, who is black. The second red was to a white Italian player who just lost his head - so thank goodness poor Gnonto can't get all the blame if Italy lose this. How ridiculous and awful that this is where my mind has to go, eh.)

i switched off the match - how did it end? Did you all see our magnificent Gladbacher Rocco Reitz? what a star he is

It has gone to extra time, but Italy are down to 9 men so Germany have a huge advantage.

burblish · 25/06/2025 18:56

And the Young Lions roar on to the final - thoroughly well deserved SF win over the Dutch! Harvey Elliot is really putting himself in the shop window.

Brefugee · 25/06/2025 19:51

here's hoping for an England/Germany final. I will pull on the shirt of the team most likely to win in the dying minutes of the game and pretend i was supporting them all along...

MaybeNotBob · 25/06/2025 20:26

(Looks for the laughing emoji)

Brefugee · 25/06/2025 20:56

when i applied for German citizenship, everyone was saying "finally, you'll be getting a great football team" and i was happy about that.

And... they've been useless since then and England have been better. Grrr. (but i do have one of each shirts so...)

MaybeNotBob · 25/06/2025 22:07

OK, Nørgaard as replacement for Jorgino, Kepa as a backup keeper (for £5 million!), Zubimendi to be announced on July the 1st due to tax reasons.

Good so far.

Gyökeres obviously desperate to sign, however, Šeško has followed Arsenal on Instagram...

Brefugee · 25/06/2025 22:19

looks like i have to dust of my England and Germany shirts for the final. (when is it? I generally boycott all FIFA type of things)

Tiswa · 26/06/2025 00:11

Saturday 8pm
this os UEFA isn’t it much better IMO than FIFA but the bar is v low. The way the Euros tickets are done is far superior to FIFA. The spending 300-400 dollars for the right to buy a World Cup ticket of their choice is awful! Whereas the balloting for games for the Euros was much better as was the selling on of tickets!

@Brefugee we saw both Germany and England last year and do have a German shirt!

on a separate note DD has just come home from her prom having seen Declan Rice - assume it is his home golf club (close to where he was born so South rather than North). Poor man was having a meal with some friends and then got a whole lot of 16 year old girls going to Prom

MaybeNotBob · 26/06/2025 00:22

From what I've seen of Rice, he's an absolute gentleman, and so would have done his best to make them all happy.

To be hinest I am not sure you can make 200 sixteen year old girls all happy!

she tells me the security (of the club) weren’t that keen on them - it is a posh golf club.

but yes he seemed nice about it from what she said!

she has now emerged and yes he was lovely and did pose for a picture (which we have) and was very nice about the whole thing. She said it really kickstarted the prom as they were all excited!

also pleased most knew of him and half definitely knew who he was which is good as he is I think very much a footballer and not so much in the media

Brefugee · 26/06/2025 10:02

agree, but UEFA sits under FIFA afaik. I am boycotting all internationals - i watch whatever may be on free TV or if DH has the TV on but i have stopped paying any attention to the WC and am going the same way with Euros. Unfortunately.

MaybeNotBob · 26/06/2025 12:49

MLS has signed a new 5 year contract. Good!

Tiswa · 26/06/2025 12:59

There was an interesting article about MLS mum in the Guardian and the impact it has, and her project of helping parents through the process.

it is so tough to get through the academy nowadays and even if you do and are somewhat successful you can be sold simply to gain pure profit for FFP

outofdate · 26/06/2025 15:24

So England v Germany in the final.
Two great teams and the winners will probably be the ones who cope better with the extreme heat.

Tiswa · 26/06/2025 15:33

Anyone else have concerns about next years World Cup with the weather - particularly the storms and the impact that will have.

I was at the Germany Denmark match that was called off with lightening and it was frightening! And disruptive

TheSleepingGiant · 26/06/2025 18:10

EFL fixtures released this morning, Gillingham's last game will be an interesting one. I predict a few inflatable snakes being brought into the stadium. Sam Volkes has signed as a free agent, hoping to get a few more over the line before 2nd August. Oh and the lovely Bradley Dack has signed a new contract too 💙

Glad to read he is as he seems to be not having met him.

Though this is yet another reason to end school proms and consign them to history. Whatever you think of golf, let people play it in peace.
