If you could get rid of one Olympic discipline

So I guess around 4 years ago DH and I had a conversation like this
DH: "you know X was on earlier"
Me: "X is an olympic sport!? "
DH: "yeah has been a while"
Me: "what next? Pool? 10 pin bowling?'

Safe to say we can't remember what X is 😂
Just for fun: what sport do you think shouldn't be on there?

At the moment I'm thinking football because there's already too much football on TV and I'm not sure Golf is particularly thrilling 😂.

Get rid of anything equestrian would be a good start. Nothing remotely sporty and athletic about it.

Do you know how fit you have to be to ride a horse? Try it and see how you feel the next day. If you think you can just go sit on those horses and they will jump a course for you - good luck 😂

Boxing 100%. We have some female boxers (Ireland) who have done well but I cannot bear watching it, in fact I've never seen them box.

I've enjoyed the gymnastics but feel a bit guilty. It's a sport that's replete with issues for young women and girls. Weight issues, physical and mental pressure, increasing pressure to perform difficult (and dangerous moves).

I've just finished the first two episodes of the Simone Biles doc on Netflix (eye-opening) and finished the book "The Little Communist Who Never Smiled" on Nadia Comanenci and just learned about Elena.Mukhina. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elena_Mukhina

It's actually a very dangerous sport at this level

Elena Mukhina is the most tragic story in sport. The girl with the sad eyes is absolutely haunting 😞

3x3 mini basketball - 3 players per side shooting into the same hoops. Weirdest thing I've seen in these games

It feels like they should just be playing it on someone's driveway

I would just add that the speed walking race just makes me think of Monty Python and the Ministry of Silly Walks. John Cleese was the Minister.

Haha same!

If I was queen of the IOC, golf would be binned in favour of crazy golf.

Imagine the intricate themed courses. Marvellous.

Yes! That's more like it!

Did anyone catch the surfing this morning! That needs to go, it just seemed to consist of lots of walking backwards and forwards with a surfboard, 10 seconds riding a wave and then falling off ( not that I could stand up even for 10 seconds!) . The commentary was incomprehensible and I had no idea who was doing what!
If they do want to keep it, they need to do something to speed it up a bit, I suggest a high speed drag line out to the wave😊

Someone up thread mentioned Elena Mukhina - the tragic Soviet gymnast. That's a short video of Elena Mukhina https://m.youtube.com/results?sp=mAEA&search_query=Elena+muchina The biggest tragedy in sport. Her treatment afterwards was absolutely appalling. She was "hidden away" in a tiny flat in abject poverty with the state absolutely not giving two shits about her. 😭

Skateboarding. Can they not all go at once? Last one standing wins.

I don’t get boxing, I just don’t understand in this day and age how people cheer for one person to hit another

Boxing. But I'd ban it as a sport completely.

I went to a lecture once (about head injuries) and they said that the aim of boxing is basically to give the opponent a serious enough head injury that they lose consciousness. If you had a sport where the aim was to, say, kick each other in the shins until one breaks, it would be instantly banned, so why is boxing different?

Bravo, bravo, bravo.

Boxing- after this year's sickening male violence against women.
