If you could get rid of one Olympic discipline

So I guess around 4 years ago DH and I had a conversation like this
DH: "you know X was on earlier"
Me: "X is an olympic sport!? "
DH: "yeah has been a while"
Me: "what next? Pool? 10 pin bowling?'

Safe to say we can't remember what X is 😂
Just for fun: what sport do you think shouldn't be on there?

At the moment I'm thinking football because there's already too much football on TV and I'm not sure Golf is particularly thrilling 😂.

Another vote for boxing and maybe the other "fighting" type ones.

Boxing.
Hitting people is not a sport, it is a crime.

Pistol & Rifle shooting, archery, golf tennis and football - overrated, boring and pointless in this day and age.

Anything involving animals (horses) as they are living breathing creatures not some sort of fancy sports equipment. I think that's where it all goes wrong, when fun turns serious.
I see it in dog agility, some people forget that it's meant to be fun first not first place at all costs!

I would however love to see some old fashioned archery on horseback! 🤣

Boxing for me too. Should be banned anyway!

Rhythmic gymnastics. Only a few countries still compete in it, it’s so boring. Would replace with team gym or acro which are much more exciting gymnastics events that are growing in popularity internationally.

Id also add frisbee. My son is a gymnast, his team mate represents GB in frisbee and team gym. They’re both really exciting!!

Golf. Football. Rugby. Boxing. Surfing.

Torn between equestrian (cruel and a farce) and boxing (hitting people is not a sport).

I didn’t suggest banning the sports that require lots of money. I was just disagreeing with all the people saying ditch the skateboarding.

And yes, better funded sports in all schools, but that still wouldn’t open equestrian and sailing events to low income kids!

I agree with you about football, and with another pp about boxing.

Weightlifting is as dull as ditchwater, but I don't ever watch that, so it can stay. 😂

Walking.

"Go slowly as fast as possible"

One of the rules is that you have to keep one foot on the floor at all times. With slow motion cameras it was determined that not a single competitor did so. What's the point of it if everybody breaks the rules?

Currently boxing, or at least until they stop asking women to fight against men.
Or football - it seems pointless, given that it's way down the list of important football competitions.

Boxing and I'd swap it for snooker (or darts)

Definitely dressage. The training must be so cruel to get them to do something so unnatural.

Boxing. It's just violence legitimised.

I'm not sure about any sport where the scores are based on the judges opinions, eg ice dancing. To me, sport should be easily quantifiable, eg fastest, highest, strongest, most goals. I hate it when marks come down to the judges' political leanings.

Yes as others have said as well if the Olympics isn't the ultimate competition of your sport it shouldn't be in. It's a complete joke that football and tennis are included.

Ooh now this sounds good… I can see that working. I’ve enjoyed the kayak cross thing - looks like it was thought up by someone with an evil sense of humour. Bit batty to watch but entertaining to be fair.

Walking - if you want to get somewhere quickly, just run 😂

Dressage (there’s no need for horse dancing)
Golf (they don’t seem to care so sod them!)

Golf - they get paid enough (oooo should I also opt for Tennis).
