I really like Alex Scott, but not for MOTD.

I read that Chapman was concerned that he wouldn't be able to commit to doing it every week and that is why they are going to share it, not the other way round.

I think sharing it might work like it does with HIGNFY.

It was bad enough for GL because of his tweets, and the anti-woke brigade would just say that she got it for the reasons @Oblomov24 said.

No, but it is easy for us to say when we aren't AS. MOTD is an institution and is watched by a lot of anti-woke people and you have to think about AS's mental health.

GL ruined MOTD for me by being an awful presenter who thought he was bigger than the show and the BBC kept him on thinking he was indispensable (just like they did with Jonathan Ross and many other dreadful "talent"). And then GL's tweets ruined it for the likes of AS.

See I don't think the Bentancur thing is racism. It's just a bad joke. Bentancur is apparently lovely, and he loves Sonny. And jokingly stupidly said 'they all look the same (actual name of research study done) / I can't tell them apart'. But to me that's not necessarily racism. Ie NOT distinguishing one race as inferior or superior. Many people struggle to differentiate different nationalities. Many can not tell apart genetically closely related groups instantly, and that thus isn't necessarily considered racism. Eg may not be able to tell the difference between someone from Philippines and from certain parts of Korea. Anyway, silly comment from Bentancur. But 7 match ban?

No-one is saying that he is racist or that he doesn't like Son (he might be, we don't know except a lot of Hispanics are (which is probably a racist thing to say!)).

But it is like people in the 1970s saying that they couldn't possibly be racist because they had non-white friends or their son-in-law was non-white.

Whether people can't tell the difference between people of other races is neither here nor there. Bentancur wasn't giving a lecture about that. He was making a joke which was in bad taste and which a lot of people would consider racist because it is the sort of joke that racists used to make in the 1970s.

That is why they had to come down hard on him to deter other people. Footballers are role models and they need to conduct themselves as in public.

So it IS. He's being penalised for making a racist comment.

I agree it's a racist comment. He may not be racist, but the comment is a well known racist trope, and in this day and age you know there is someone there to record it.

Yes, a lot of people including the people who fined him would consider his joke racist. That doesn't mean that Bentancur is racist, it means that he made a racist joke.

And it matches your definition of racism because he wasn't giving a lecture about how people look, he was making a joke which had the effect of making people who are of the same ethnicity as Son to feel inferior because he was making a joke about the way they look. If he did not think that they were inferior, it wouldn't have been a joke, he would have just been stating a fact. He admitted that it was a joke so he thought that they were inferior and that he could laugh at them. He certainly was not laughing with them. Even if Son did not find it offensive because he is friends with Bentancour, it doesn't mean that other people wouldn't.
