Football fans join in to share the joy, the heartache and VAR frustration ⚽

“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.”

People! For the first time since - I think - 1981, tomorrow I will be in Hillsborough watching the mighty Sheffield Wednesday-nil lose against Burnley.

In the actual flesh, and not just checking the scores while I'm in the stadium watching the mighty Borussia Mönchengladbach lose to whoever.

Am stupidly excited about this.

Tarkan · 18/10/2024 20:40

Enjoy @Brefugee !

Looks like I'll be missing the match at Gayfield tomorrow. Came down with a horrible cold on Wednesday and still feel rough as anything. Weather isn't great here right now either so really not a good idea for me. Sad

DuncinToffee · 18/10/2024 20:48

Excited for you Brefugee

Get well soon Tarkan

Feel well soon @Tarkan

And thanks @Tarkan &@DuncinToffee -although I'm not sure "enjoy" will apply

MrsMitford3 · 18/10/2024 21:09

Just saw the awful news that Steve Bruce's four month old grandson has sadly died and he won't be at Blackpool's match tomorrow.

Puts it into perspective doesn't it?

Brefugee · 18/10/2024 23:44

it really is awful

JasonTindallsTan · 18/10/2024 23:46

How sad. No love lost there on a footballing level but on a human level I can’t imagine that kind of pain and loss and my deepest sympathies to all the Bruce family. Some things are bigger than football.

Tarkan · 19/10/2024 13:46

DH and I were saying the same thing. And not that long since the news about Bristol City's Liam Manning's newborn baby dying as well. Utterly heartbreaking all round and it doesn't matter about the team, it's just something you wouldn't wish on anyone.

Brefugee · 19/10/2024 18:08

Well - that was a fun way to spend an afternoon. 😂
Pity about the result!

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2024 19:03

First away win since December, Yay! 2 great goals but the nerves set in at the 70 mins mark and no sign of subs 😬

Great away win for us today, worried about Welbeck though

Tarkan · 19/10/2024 19:20

Two horrendous results for me today. I guess at least I didn't miss going to a good one but the points would have been nice.

TheSleepingGiant · 19/10/2024 19:34

Mixed bag here results wise. Great win and 2nd half performance from Spurs against a team they so often struggle against.

Wheels seen to be coming off at Gillingham, 4th defeat in a row now and they've reverted back to uninspiring hoof football. Formation and late subs not helping. Sort it out by Tuesday night please Mr Bonner!

AndNobbyDancing · 19/10/2024 20:33

Complete dejection at Saint Mary's today.

As they say, it's the hope that kills you.

Great result for the 🍒

EboueEboue · 19/10/2024 21:33

Well, that was a bit sh!t.

Could only listen to the 1st half, but it sounds like Trossard gave Saliba a suicide pass and he made the wrong decision. Even then, it took the (Liverpool supporting) VAR ref to make it into a red card.

Bad personnel choice by Arteta today I think. Nwaneri looked totally in control of the game when he came on, but until then we had no creativity. Arteta being too conservative I think, and it doesn't help when we need to score goals.

Hopefully they'll all learn from this.

Although the (Liverpool supporting, as I may have mentioned) VAR ref has made sure Saliba isn't available to face them next week...

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 19/10/2024 21:35

We went a whole season a few years ago without getting a single red card.

This season we have had 3 in 8 games.

Hopefully things can only get better.

Oblomov24 · 19/10/2024 21:39

Dh took ds2 to spurs v West Ham for his birthday so that was good.

It seems to be what they do. When the Invincibles were going strong, they had to start a campaign to give Wenger's team as many red cards as possible too...

DuncinToffee · 20/10/2024 09:48

Watched MotD, and it was a red, VAR got it right.

OP posts:
EboueEboue · 20/10/2024 12:12

It probably was a red, and yet there's always an example of where "it was too far outside the box", therefore only a yellow...

DuncinToffee · 20/10/2024 12:51

I guess it is more that those red cards were avoidable that annoys you guys.

I don't know if that was the same during the Wenger era.

OP posts:
EboueEboue · 20/10/2024 12:52

And Dean Ashton doesn't think it should have been a red...

I don't know if that was the same during the Wenger era.

During the Wenger era, Vieira used to get red cards for things that wouldn't have even got a yellow for other players.

And Man Utd got away with horrific violence against us.

Again, inconsistency. Mostly in the same direction. It sticks in the craw...

DuncinToffee · 20/10/2024 12:57

Ah well, it always going to be part of football, something for us fans tp moan about Grin

At least you are not battling relegation Football

And FPL has been dire for me this week

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 20/10/2024 13:38

We are in red card top 3 as well
